Groan Groan Groan. Why would it be Super Switch if it is just an upgraded Switch (same generation and library of games) and not a next gen console? Super Nintendo was a new generation from the NES. Stop trying to blur lines between generations, it's ruining everything.

I'll just take another opportunity to remind everyone that MGSV on PS4/XONE outsold the PS3/360 version 19-1. https://www.eurogamer.net/a...

This was despite a much larger install base on the older consoles.

Guys, just don't click it or read it. It's Metro; you wouldn't care about their opinion if the score was high, so why do you care that it's low? This is a classic "look at me!" review.

Current gen consoles all use SSD.

I was disappointed as well, but keep in mind that Returnal was only out for one day in April (the biggest day it will have, in all likelihood, but still one day). I'll be interested to see where it is in May. I have no illusions that it is going to be the next major Sony blockbuster, but I'd like to see a slow burn success along the lines of Control. Fortunately I'm sure the budget was much lower than is typical for Sony AAA exclusives.

Well, that's an interesting thing to say, but how else to do you get to Sony only having 45% of the marketshare last gen without including Nintendo? Do you think Xbox One had 55% of the marketshare when just comparing with Sony (spoiler: it didn't)? Or are they using some other group, like PCs with active Steam and/or Epic accounts?
It seems pretty clear that they are counting Switch+Xbox One as 55% of the market from last gen, and which 3rd party games released on Switch doe...

I wonder how they are calculating market share with respect to the Switch. I mean it seems like they were counting it as a last gen console against PS4, but are they also counting it as a current gen console against PS5? Or maybe they are using sales of other consoles from the launch of PS5 (so counting all Switch sales that occurred after PS5's launch, but not those from before). If they count both Switch's total install base and the sales of Nintendo's next console, it's goi...

It's funny to look back on all three gens and think about all the different forces that were supposedly going to end traditional console gaming during that time. Motion control, mobile games, free to play, streaming...I wonder what the next one will be.

Yeah, I'm wondering if the shoulder buttons are going to be changed. The tendency on PS4/PS5 has been to treat R2/L2 the way R1/L1 used to be treated on PS3 and earlier, so I'm wondering if they'll make that switch for VF5 or keep it the same. It's a weird thing, because in most cases the newer shoulder buttons are much better, but for VF5 specifically I may miss the PS3 controller.

@toxic-inferno

I mean, looking at the reasons for the difference in sales is why the difference in launches is interesting. I don't understand the idea of "I can explain the difference in these stats, therefore they aren't relevant." It doesn't make any sense.

Uh how is it pointless? Each console was the successor to one of the most successful consoles of all time (PS2 and PS4). Both were competing against a reinvigorated Microsoft (360 and Series X) and a Nintendo doing something different entirely (Wii and Switch). It's difficult to think of a more relevant comparison, other than comparisons of direct competitors.

@elazz

What you said is basically the reason I said "In fairness, Sony has almost always come around with new exclusives every time it has seemed like they looked weak." If I had to place money on it (in a sense I guess I have by buying a PS5 and prepaying for like 3+ years of PS Plus), I'd bet that Sony will look good in 2023-2024. But I have to acknowledge that I have less reason to be confident in PlayStation's future in 2021 than I did in 2016. People ...

"Don't Bend" is obviously supposed to be "Sony Bend." I hate autocorrect on my phone.

At least for my part, the criticism is more future-facing. I don't think anyone serious is challenging that Sony is opening the generation better, but it's more a question if how things will look in 2023. In fairness, Sony has almost always come around with new exclusives every time it has seemed like they looked weak, but the "let's remake Last of Us," "No Days Gone 2, go remake Uncharted, Don't Bend" and Kojima going to MS rumors are not encouraging for ...

Hope to see some evidence that the PS5 version is more than a PS4 game with better resolution/framerate (although those must be better as well; this game can't be 30 fps on PS5). Something like the comparison in Miles Morales showing the difference between leaving the interior of a building on PS4 (lengthy loading screen) and leaving the same building on PS5 (swinging straight through an opening back into the open world).

Lol unreal. Every so often last gen some no name site would do this with PS4 to try to get clicks. They'd take a PS4, make sure it was not set as their primary console, intentionally take it offline, and then write articles about how they were "locked out" of their games.

Well, no one forces anyone else to develop a video game or to put it on any specific platform. It's optional.

Spiderman: Miles Morales. Demon's Souls PS5. Hitman 3.

Returnal got a short delay but then hit the delayed date.

To be clear, I'm not ripping on them for delaying the game the first time. But they knew about the pandemic in fall 2020 when they did the first major delay, so that was already factored in.
