This. It's telling that the same people who think Sony can look at a game that's been in development on PS5 for several years and add a PS4 version one year before release are the same people who don't understand that a PS5 should be able to add more to games other than just upping the framerate and resolution.
It matters because we want PS5 games to be more than PS4 games at 4K/60fps with shorter load times. If devs followed your line of thinking, we'd still be getting PS1 style games, just with better graphics. Sony sold the PS5 on the idea that the SSD would allow devs to design gameworlds differently, which of course can't happen if they are actually designed for PS4. Similarly, we heard for half the gen that the PS4 CPU was limiting devs, so the PS5's CPU was supposed to open things...
It sold over ten million copies, but it sold strong for 2+ years (the "games sell most of their copies in the first 3 months" logic doesn't apply to tentpole games). What people like you seem to forget is that the PS5 won't be removed from the market the day God of War releases. People will keep buying it, and if God of War had been a PS5 exclusive, it would have been the game many of them bought alongside the console. So God of War's sales on PS5 are not limited to the ...
Lol this completely shatters the "well cross gen games are made for PS5 then downscaled to PS4" nonsense. As was obvious, games like this one aiming coming to multiple platforms are developed around the weakest platform. When they aren't, you end up with last gen console Cyberpunk.
Seriously. Games built for a 2013 CPU should be easy for PS5 to handle.

There's the darth we know and love downvoting. You'd been saying so many reasonable things recently I thought you were sick or had been abducted by aliens or something.
First of all, I'm specifically talking about PlayStation. This is a story about PS first party games. Also, it's telling that you mention Destiny, because Bungie has admitted that Destiny was gimped to accommodate PS3 and 360 ( 1841d ago 2 agree5 disagreeView comment
Even early-PS3 Sony made real exclusives for their new console. And PS2 had a bigger install base than PS4 does, while PS3 sold slower than PS5.
"You fools" lol I've been a Sony fanboy forever. I supported PS3 in 2006 when all the nubs got hyped over Dead Rising and Gears of War. But even overconfident 2006 Sony at least made games designed for their new console. Uncharted wasn't cross gen with PS2, despite PS2's massive install base.
Santa Monica probably won't make a game actually designed around PS5 until it is making a cross gen PS5/PS6 game.
Yeah, why are they leaving the 150+ million PS2 owners behind?
Why didn't they make all their PS3 games cross gen with PS2 then? It had a better install base in 2006-2008 than PS4 does now, and PS3 sold slower than PS5.
By 2022 I could easily find you a PS5. You could get one yourself if you'd get discord and set notifications for drops. Also, it has never been the case that the install base of a new system has to match the old one before companies focus on the new system. Do you really think PS3's install base was anything like PS2's in 2007 when Uncharted launched? Do you think PS4 had outsold PS3 when Bloodborne came out?
No they aren't. What were the first party games that were cross gen PS2/PS3? Maybe Singstar or something random, but not AAA games. What about on PS3/ PS4?
This first party focus on cross gen is totally new.
Yep. Whatever minimal justification there is for cross gen in 2021 is certainly gone in 2022. This is the equivalent of Bloodborne being developed for PS3. When MGSV launched in 2015 (two years after PS4 and XONE launched) the last gen versions of the game absolutely tanked. God of War is being ruined for no reason.
I can't believe Xbox is going to make a meaningful generational shift before PlayStation. Fire Jim Ryan ASAP, he's ruining everything.
Stop with the shortage nonsense. Even with supply constraints, they are selling more PS5s than they did PS4s or PS3s in the same period, yet Uncharted: Drake's Fortune wasn't cross gen with PS2 and Bloodborne wasn't cross gen with PS3. This is a monumentally stupid move.
I automatically read this as "No Map Editor because of the focus on the last-gen versions."
Guys remember 4 years ago when the CPUs on last gen consoles were mobile CPUs that were too slow and devs needed more power? Weird how they improved so much since then.
Honestly, I feel like they were largely dead already by the time FC2 came out. I also think you are really overestimating the success of the multiplayer components of the Far Cry Series if you really think the existence of the map editor prevented them from substantial mtx/map pack sales.
Yeah. Lol "turn Battlefield into COD: Black Ops Cold War" is one of the weirdest ideas I've heard in awhile. BF is at its best when it is most distinct from COD (Longer matches, Conquest mode, destructability) and at its worst when it tried to follow COD (Firestorm, knockoff perk systems, overly complex unlock system at the expense of defined classes). I don't understand why people who like COD don't just keep playing COD.
I notice someone stopped bringing up Destiny as an example of cross-gen working after realizing Bungie talked openly about cross-gen limiting that game.
