That's part of the problem. He very specifically picked a situation where BC isn't that important (racing games) to deny its value as an overall concept. The people who want to play PS1 games don't want to play Gran Turismo 1, they want to play JRPGs that are unlike anything available today.
The thing is, Sony could pretty easily do BC for everything except PS3, regardless of how the consoles were built. I mean, PS2 emulation on PS4 is very solid, they just only allowed a very limited number of games, unfortunately. They just choose to not do it.
@Teflon02
I guess my worry is that each season they'll keep releasing new specialists that you have to pay for a pass to get, and that even though you can still play with the old ones, the newer ones will have better gadgets/abilities that unbalance the game. This isn't a straight up pay to win situation, but it trends in that direction.
Series S you mean?
Gameplay looks good, but the "seasons" and "specialists" system concerns me that mtx are going to impact gameplay. For all the issues the game had, at least BFV's mtx were cosmetics.
What's baffling to me is how Siege gets away with it. It does all the things everyone supposedly hates (no true single player, seasons and passes, gameplay impacting MTX) but it gets treated as if it's this great, consumer friendly shooter.
Unfortunately there's just very little that is actually good right now in terms of shooters. It seems to be a game of finding which one is the least anti-consumer while still maintaining a playerbase that allows you to find ...
@Smok91
I see what you are saying, but you better believe MS is looking at the data of what games Gamepass users actually play with their subscriptions. So even if you and others download this because it's free, if you and others play far less due to the absence of split screen, that will affect how MS negotiates Gamepass contracts with this dev's games in the future. So in the Gamepass context your time is your money.
Ugh. I was hoping since this is a last gen version that at least the current gen versions of the game might have split screen. I know the argument against split screen these days is usually that the system can't handle it, but in a game made for the prior gen, that would seem to no longer apply.
If it wasn't for the fact that they seem so hard to be trying to emulate Rainbow Six Siege, I'd be pretty excited. The gameplay looks good, and I'm ready for another modern BF (unlike some I don't want them all to be modern, but it's time for one). However, I'm afraid like Siege's "operators," this BF will introduce new specialists as MTX that throw off the game and disadvantage those who don't pay.
It seems like having a "survival mode" that included this mechanic and others like it would resolve the issue. That way it isn't forced on everyone, but it's there for those who want to do a hardcore run.
Unfortunately I'm afraid they'll just make a "me too" multiplayer offering that tries to be exactly like everything else already out there.
Deathloop looks like the closest thing you'll get on Playstation in the near future, and unfortunately it looks likely to be the last ever Arkane game on PlayStation systems.
While we're at it, no magical abilities after you get a certain number of kills or deaths in a row.
I miss that Sony so badly.
Yeah I was reading where Halo Infinite's multiplayer is getting back to its roots. I can't believe we're getting to a world where I might think Halo is the best multiplayer option. The problem is I want that type of game in something less bullet spongy. Like Battlefield 1942 basically.
That would be awesome. Unfortunately, I fear that even if they did a SOCOM or something like it now, it would end up being far too much like Rainbow Six Siege.
I'd love to see a straightforward shooter. No BR, no season passes, no "operators" or "specialists" that unbalance the game until you pay for them, no "progression system" that artificially locks guns behind mtx and/or grinding. Just a real, early 2000s style shooter with balanced classes that you play because its fun, not because of shoehorned RPG leveling.
Of course, we won't get that, and I'm sure we'll get some combination ...
I miss the days before COD4 ruined shooters when guns weren't artificially locked away behind a "progression system," there were just balanced classes, and you played because the game was good, not to grind.
As a fan of the original trilogy, I hear you, but they kind of asked for it by naming the 2018 game "God of War." Especially since there are a lot of people who either had the PS4 as their first console or as their first PlayStation.
Unfortunately you are right to a certain degree. Half of the people who talk so much about how they care about PlayStation's legacy and playing old games probably ignored the PS3 at launch (which that launch version could play every PS1, PS2, and PS3 game) in order to buy the 360 to play Dead Rising. After that it's not hard to see why Sony doesn't trust the people who say BC is a defining issue.
