Probably not, but I think the assumption was that people have figured this out more in the fourteen years since 2007.
What upcoming true PS5 exclusive (non cross gen) do we have to look forward to right now? Honestly the closest thing we have is a timed exclusive that MS is publishing (Deathloop). I guess you could throw in Square's timed exclusives as well, although who knows how long FF16 and Forspoken will actually take to come out. Obviously there is every reason to believe Horizon and God of War will be great, but neither is PS5 exclusive.
@darthv72
Yeah I think there are going to be a lot of people who buy PS5 first from 2020-2022 and then in 2023-2024 buy a series S to play the 1-2 games per year they really feel like they are missing. And imagine if by that point the price of the S is lower. I mean, what if they up the SDD to 1TB and get it to $249? People would buy it on a whim like they do the Switch. I have my problems with the Series S from a technical standpoint, but as far as a business proposition i...
Lol and half of them are probably the same people who make long posts about how brilliant Game of Thrones is for being willing to kill off major characters.
I just don't understand how that would happen or why. 2 worked so well (despite what the Foxtrots of the world who wanted it to basically be a rehash of the first game insist) because it built its story on a pivotal moment from the first game (the hospital sequence, which was an amazing sequence and cutscene). You are so invested in Joel and Ellie at the time that you just basically pass it off or see it as fully justified, but from a kid's perspective Joel just rolled through and bru...
I agree with this your assessment of 2, but I still want them to do new IP. We haven't gotten a new IP from Naughty Dog since 2013, after getting both Uncharted and TLOU during the PS3 gen. Let's not forget that we originally got TLOU because ND and Sony were willing to do a new IP see despite having a proven franchise (Uncharted).
@Father_Merrin
The problem with that right now is that both sell out, so it's a matter of who is producing more. We won't know the different demand levels until one or both stop selling out.
@purple101
Do you know how many people played Skyrim? What do you think those people are going to do when the next Elder Scrolls launches? It won't be enough for Xbox to outsell PS5, but that will provide some really good months in the US at least...
MS completely botched the launch of XONE and failed to launch meaningful exclusives basically the entire gen, and PlayStation did basically everything right with PS4, and they still didn't outsell Xbox 3-1. With Xbox not screwing themselves this gen and actually having games lined up, it's going to be difficult to create as large of a gap, unless it is by sheer volume of sales (i.e. PS5 outselling PS2). Unless you aren't counting Series S, I think that cheaper option is going to c...
Cross gen.
That's a good point. I didn't know the adoption rate was so low...I would have guessed that it would have been higher among the group of people who are early console adopters. But otherwise I can see little reason why the resolution wouldn't just scale bit lower to prevent frame drops.
It's weird to me that with both games using the same dynamic resolution system, that the SX version would maintain higher resolution at the cost of more frequent frame drops. Maybe they do these targets assuming enough SX owners will have VRR capable screens (which of course is irrelevant for PS5 at the moment, unfortunately). If that is factored in, I can understand if they decided to push resolution a bit more, even at a slight performance cost.
If you buy that you can then upgrade to the PS5 version.
@LoveSpuds
You, like so many other people, assume that I'm ripping on Sony as they have been. I'm not. Obviously one of their strong points has been new IP, especially while MS got caught up in the Halo/Gears/Forza cycle. But Naughty Dog hasn't debuted a new IP since 2013. Sony Santa Monica has taken even longer. Obviously Ghost of Tsushima is new as of last year, but now because of that game's success, we probably won't see a new IP from Sucker Punch th...
@neutralgamer1992
I don't question that Sony has "something." And given their worldwide popularity compared to Xbox, I take it as a given they will "win" this generation again, even under the best circumstances for MS. After PS3 ultimately tied/passed 360, I don't see MS ever outselling PlayStation in worldwide terms.
Also, no one seriously questions that 2015-2021 Sony has been far better than Xbox. The concern is complacency,...
I'm glad you understand. When you mention this everyone just assumes you're an Xbox fanboy, but really I just want quality games in this genre on Playstation, and I think it could happen if they'd stop being obsessed with sequels.
See, I added the "(or something along these lines)" qualifier to that lineup specifically to cut off comments like this. The point is not the exact timeline of the roadmap I laid out (although Outer Worlds was a smaller game for this genre, so the idea that the next one could be out in 2 years isn't crazy), it's that MS has this lineup coming and Sony has no response.
Now could MS botch this? Could half of these games get cancelled and the other half end u...
I mean, obviously not everyone cares about WRPGS. And if Sony really wanted to double down on JRPGS and just go for a different crowd, maybe that would work (although they will largely get those people anyway).
I'm just saying that there is a substantial group of people that likes that type of game, and PlayStation is going to be the decidedly worse option for them this gen.
Possibly. Maybe Methesda will try to use this and Ghostwire as PR moves so it looks like Bethesda isn't dropping PlayStation all at once.
People on here don't want to acknowledge this, but MS getting close to having a monopoly on First Person Western RPG devs is going to be a real problem for Sony in a few years. If it's Starfield in late 2022, Outer Worlds 2 a few months after that, Elder Scrolls in 2024, Avowed in 2025, and Fallout in 2026 (or something along these lines), Sony needs a response other than more sequels for its third person action games. I have no doubt Sony could put together a good RPG studio that wou...
@Sonic-and-Crash
I don't know why you are treating Halo like it's supposed to be a graphical showpiece. Of course Guerilla's games look better; they always have (compare Killzone 2 on PS3 to any of the 360 Halo games, for instance). I mean when Halo 3 came out it didn't look that much better than 2 given the stronger hardware, but no one plays those games for visuals. Honestly the better visuals comparison was between Killzone and Gears of War.
