Ugh. Cutting the framerate in half for slightly better lighting effects. I have a feeling that's going to be an annoying trend this generation.
That's a game changer, quite literally.
Yeah from launch until about 2009 when I'd go into GameStop to buy a PS3 game they'd act like I was speaking a foreign language. Although I never thought it was anything shady on MS's part, I just knew it was because they were nubs.
I hope you are right that this is the explanation.
I still would have been annoyed, but at least then they could more honestly pretend that they thought people would take it as good news. If they didn't know it was such bad news, they wouldn't hide it so long.
Ah, looking like another case of Sony hiding the fact that a PS5 game is also coming to PS4, (revealing that they know how terrible that looks from a marketing perspective), which will inevitably be followed by a tone deaf announcement of the PS4 version as if it's a positive thing.
Oh no
Well I do remember hearing about a "1440p console" . . .
No one should be threatening the devs, obviously, but this really was a nonsensical change.
Can't wait to see all the bragging about 120 fps from people with 60 hz tvs who don't understand.
Basically what I've been predicting since Spring: it's essentially 100% BC with PS4 except for a few random games.
It's crazy how long you kept seeing that floating around, even though it was perfectly clear at the time that he was just providing an example.
It would be nice if they'd patch in an unlocked framerate mode so that, even through BC, we'd be able to take more advantage of the PS5's extra power.
I'm hoping this might happen. I'm not at all optimistic like some people are that Bethesda games are going to keep coming to PS5 forever, but I wonder if something like Starfield that has already been partially developed for PS5 might be an exception. I'm a lot more enthusiastic we'll get it compared to the next Elder Scrolls or Fallout.
How many of the bestselling Japanese RPGs released in the same timeframe (since 2011) would you have to add together to equal the sales of Skyrim?
Yeah, don't forget Obsidian.
Yes. Extremely worried. There will still be great third person action RPGs on PS5 (in fact it will likely still be the best platform for those), but we may not get a decent first person western RPG after Cyberpunk.
The "lol Bugthesda" and "Fallout 76 sucks" crowd are whistling past the graveyard. When people who aren't hardcore enough to follow the news of MS buying Bethesda find out that "the sequel to Skyrim" is not on PS5, that's goi...
@SamPao
True, but those are both larger studios owned by Sony. Housemarque is smaller, independent, and has had a string of recent games that have gotten less attention than their earlier stuff.
We'll see. Maybe it can be Sony's first significant post-launch exclusive. I'm just afraid if it gets close to Horizon or even big third party games next year, it will get lost.
Thanks, I've seen plenty of comparisons (using PC games with ray tracing on and off, because comparing console to PC is stupid), and except for minecraft, they all prove my point rather than refute it. Massive framerate hit for a moderate improvement.
