Agreed generally, but the problem is that these are targeting kids. And I know "well it's the parents' responsibility," and I don't disagree, I'm just pointing out why this is different than the other situations. An 8 year old blowing money on FIFA or Fortnite is not the same as a 35 year old alcoholic or gambling addict.
Also the bold letters "PS4" that appear when you highlight a PS4 version of a game but not the PS5 version warn you about this as well, as do the inferior graphics and missing use of haptic feedback lol.
I think most of the people complaining about PC performance are actually console players who, justifiably upset about the status of the console ports, don't like the idea that anyone is enjoying the game that they themselves can't enjoy. It's understandable, but not rational.
Yep. A lot of people who are upset about the last gen performance (a legitimate criticism), are now looking for any other reason to hate on the game, and going after things they would never criticize in other games. Which, in a way that's CDPR's fault, because devs should know by now that once you give a real reason for the hate train to start rolling, it's hard to say where it will end up, but still it's a little silly how far some people are going.
Yeah, this is basically the exact same problem.
The author acknowledges the performance issues on console at the beginning and makes clear that those complaints are legitimate
"You are well within your rights to be mad about bugs or subpar performance on last-gen machines"
"You are well within your rights to be mad about bugs or subpar performance on last-gen machines"
The article is talking about the people who expect the game to be a full on life simulator, not the people mad about the framerate.
"You are well within your rights to be mad about bugs or subpar performance on last-gen machines"
This article is clearly responding to the people saying the game sucks regardless of the technical issues. Like people are getting really hung up on the driving AI not being like GTA, and that the game sucks because of that, even on a PC running the game well.
Exactly. All these people saying they should have delayed another year to get the game to run on old consoles just prove the point that it never should have released there to begin with.
Imagine the goodwill Cyberpunk would have had if they'd have ditched the lost cause of the old systems a few years ago and gotten this in good shape as a launch game on both new systems. Instead they chased the "install base" and it destroyed their reputation.
There needs to be a distinction made here. This article is addressing the people who are saying that the game sucks even ignoring the framerate issues on old consoles (like the people saying it sucks because the driving AI isn't as good as GTA, the cops aren't good, etc.). This is clearly intended as a response to those complaints, not as a response to the framerate issues on base PS4/Xbox One.
They absolutely did something wrong. Releasing it on PS4 and Xbox One in the state it's in is unacceptable. We just disagree about the solution. Reasonable people see that the last gen consoles can't run this game, and recognize that they should have focused on the new consoles and PC. Everyone else seems to think that if they'd delayed again (which all these same people would have slammed them for doing) they could have magically made the game run on ancient hardware. Ironically,...
@potatoseal
Actually probably a lot of people playing the Xbox version are playing on Series X. The people who are engaged and buying games are going to be the first ones to move to the new systems.
You are just restating the problem. The exact decision I'm criticizing is the decision not to move to focus only on PC and PS5/Series X (which they would have had target specs for long before the consoles were announced). All you've done is state that they made the decision I'm saying they should not have made.
Including the Switch? It has a big install base (and a rapidly growing one at that). Also, I can name third person open world games that run on the Switch, and I have it on the good authority of people on this site that if a system can run a mostly empty open world, it should also be able to run an RPG based in a densely packed city map. So therefore because the Switch runs BOTW, it must necessarily be capable of running Cyberpunk lol.
Also the Wii and Xbox 360 have big ins...
@BenRC01
I have a capable PC, so I bought it there, and it's good there; no major issues. It was obvious from a mile away this game wasn't going to run well on console though, I actually warned away several of my more casual friends who were looking at it as the next Skyrim from buying it for base PS4.
I do notice you failed to address the flaw in your argument I pointed out, so I can only assume you concede the point.
Because every time I say this should have been cancelled on PS4/Xbox One, people always do the "but install base" fallacy. This is further proof (as if anymore proof was necessary) that they should have cancelled the last gen versions of this game, even if it meant sacrificing some short term sales (sales that aren't even permanent lol).
Install base though everybody! Install base! Lol
This. Just focus on hardware that can run the game, refund those who bought it elsewhere, and hope that this situation becomes more of a PS3 Skyrim situation and less of an Anthem situation.
Naughty Dog: We care so much about the quality of our game that we are going to build a new map and introduce a new faction for the last part of the game, even though it isn't very long, because it will add to the game's authenticity. It's a lot of work for a limited amount of gameplay time, but quality is our brand.
Internet: Lol, last area was rushed, should have fleshed out Rattlers more.
