*groans at the egregious absence of PS Aim Controller support*

Lol the article justifies this by saying it would feel awkward to use the controller when you aren't using a rifle in game. Because obviously a Dualshock 4 feels more similar to the other items in the game. I mean I feel lucky that they even bothered to support VR, but why do 95% of the work and then stop at adding the last thing that could make the experience way better?

Yep. I used to have time to play games but not enough money (or I lacked a means to play certain games, especially PC exclusives). Now I have the money to play games and the means to do so, but lack the time. It's why I always think the Souls games got started a little too late for me. Had Demon's Souls come out a few years earlier, it would have been perfect for me, but as it is now I'm more selective with things that will demand time, even if I know they are good.

I keep providing examples of the "install base" strategy failing to produce the desired sales, and no one has provided a single example of it actually panning out. No one has even brought up God of War 2 from a few months after the PS3 launched, which is probably the closest thing. But that's kind of typical, as the entire install base strategy is based on a fallacy that people who don't upgrade systems buy the same type of game as those that do.

Yeah, it is a little funny they are gimping the game for no reason.

Not speculating, but you are right about NPD. It was a UK sales chart MM dropped off top ten from. Point remains the same though about a game that big and that recent with that many consoles to sell on (although insert generic response about Spiderman being bigger in US, Xbox being big in UK, etc).

Okay, let's talk real sequels. Gran Turismo 6 was a real sequel to Gran Turismo 5. Gran Turismo 6 came out in 2013 compared to 5 coming out in 2010. Conservatively PS3's ...

As much as I hate to be the "but play this indie game everyone is being so annoying about" guy, Hades is really good. Definitely the most I've played my Switch in awhile.

However, I can see what you mean as far as big Nintendo releases. If you aren't an Animal Crossing person, and you weren't using it to play old Mario games, there wasn't as much for you this year.

Spiderman 2018 was still charting on NPD off and on this year. Miles Morales has already dropped off and it came out in November. So we don't have exact numbers yet, but we can see how this is going.

Also the last part of your opinion supports my position. Part of the reason games like this fall off on the older consoles is because the people who buy this type of game are the ones who move to the new console. To clarify, I think Horizon will sell far less on PS4 specifi...

How is Miles Morales doing on PS4 compared to Spiderman 2018 despite a bigger install base? How did Gran Turismo 6 do on PS3 in 2013 compared to Gran Turismo 5 3 years earlier despite a bigger install base? How did MGSV do on PS3/360 with a huge install base? How did Borderlands the Pre-Sequel do on PS3/360 with a massive install base?

Except Horizon is going to sell like trash on PS4 compared to the first one because people don't buy non-casual games on old consoles once new ones are out, and won't sell like it could have on PS5 because it being cross gen is killing excitement. It will still sell well there, but won't become a pillar of the console like it could have.

Lol I don't disagree that Hades has become the annoying indie darling of annoying writers from annoying sites, but it actually is really good.

As many have stated, there's really no need for a remake of such a recent game. Games should be at least 2 generations old before they are remade, and there's probably an argument that many PS3/360 era games should still be in the "remaster and retool" rather than remake category, even on PS5 (obviously Demon's Souls is an example of one that benefitted from a remake, so it will be a case by case basis).

Sigh. So "fully taking advantage of PS5" means a checklist of features like 4k and 60 fps? Obviously it's great these were included, but ultimately the game still just looks like an upgraded PS4 game. Also, while I do include graphics in this consideration and fully expect games designed from the ground up for PS5 to look better than cross gen games, a bigger part of my concern is game design. One of the promises of PS5 (think of the discussion at the Unreal 5 demo) was that lev...

@medman

Okay, let's understand the market, which has told us repeatedly that sales of games on old platforms fall off a cliff, despite the larger install base:
Example 1: MGSV launched on PS4, PS3, Xbox One, and 360. Generously the install base of PS4/XONE would have been about 60 million combined at that time, while conservatively PS3/360 easily exceeded 150+ million. Despite this difference, MGSV sold 95% on the new consoles and 5% on the old ones. This is be...

Because a game designed for PS4, which cross gen games necessarily will be, by definition doesn't truly take advantage of PS5. One of the best things about Sony First Party games in the past has been that they take full advantage of the hardware. The fact that major Sony exclusives won't do this for PS5 is a major disappointment, and it shouldn't be hard to understand why.

Moreover, it isn't justified. People blindly scream "install base" as if the...

And it's a complete waste of what could have been a great PS5 exclusive, because we've already seen with Miles Morales that the "install base" strategy of releasing these games cross gen doesn't work. It just saps the excitement for the game from the people wanting a true next gen experience, while the people still on last gen don't show and buy the game.

So much for the "install base" justification for Miles Morales coming to PS4.

And one that is actually a PS5 title, rather than a cross gen game.

Yeah although I understand that this is a bigger project than their earlier games, they still haven't shown me anything that tells me it's a full AAA game. While I wouldn't expect a $20-30 price, I figured it would be in the $40-50 range. I'm going to get it, particularly because there is so little out right now that is actually made for PS5 rather than PS4, but I unfortunately don't see this being a big seller.

Or maybe you don't understand the movies you think are "crappy," or you never watch them and just go off what youtubers say about them.

Yep. First game since Skyrim where I played 5+ hour chunks of singleplayer in one sitting without even thinking about it.
