@Melman26
I would say 50%+ of my gaming is Indie titles. Although I imagine that's higher than the average and most of it is on PC.
But you're right about this being a bit of a trend. Indie self-publishing is just the latest skirmish ground for the never ending console wars.
@Zichu,
A sensible approach.
Last gen I bought a 360 and Wii day 1, and a PS3 after the first price cut in UK. I felt I got a bit burned by buying the Wii and 360. Neither got as much use as the PS3.
This time I've got no plans for a XB1 or WiiU (yet), but have a PS4 on pre-order. I'm thinking of cancelling and waiting a while - or if the rumours of supply problems are true, then selling it on eBay for an inflated price.
Well said. Brilliant game, bargain price.
It is everything Diablo III should have been.
Seems we've got a multitude of these articles over the last few weeks.
Ubisoft is smart to do this. It means they are doing their homework.
Sure we're getting a load of Raving Rabbids - but to make a franchise work it has to be profitable, and that profit is obviously being reinvested in new franchises. People may hate on Rabbids, but if sales of that franchise are allowing Ubisoft to invest in Watch Dogs and The Division - I will not complain!
Yes it's smart.
To make a franchise you need to sell a large number of games to make further titles viable. To sell a lot of games you need interesting concepts and high quality.
Sounds like a win for gamers!
It's not like Ubisoft are just pumping out the same old titles ever year. Sure we get a lot of Raving Rabids... But we also had Watch Dogs and The Division.
And if a franchise stops selling, you can bet it'll...
I'm starting to get quite interested in this game the more I hear.
Have not been a fan of the developer in the past - but this could be good.
Even better that I can try it out for nothing as part of my PSN account.
Well, that clears that up! I bought Reus on the Steam sale. Was wondering why the cutscene was broken. I ignored it, assuming it was a glitch.
You seem so knowledgeable nukeitall! As of course Sony forces the indies to buy dev kits for thousands of dollars. They never make exceptions or provide options for spreading the cost of the kits. And they decided not to bother making their new console similar in architecture to a PC for ease of development. They'll definitely never have tools that allow porting of code from PC to PS4. They never ever put money aside in a Pub fund to help finance many Indies in exchange for exclusivit...
Sony / MS should implement a section of their stores to a Steam Greenlight style community.
It's great to see quality titles coming through Greenlight. The community regulates the service as less popular / crap games are less likely to get the recognition required to transition from development to the proper store.
Gaming on the iPad is awesome. There's tonnes of great stuff. And a good game is a good game whether its a port or not.
I love console and PC gaming, and mobile gaming is now on equal footing too.
With some people complaining about the screens on phones being too small, I never heard that about the old handhelds.
There are absolutely genres that don't work, and probably never will on touch screen (such as FPS and anything where the ...
That's a fair point gamertk421.
I think it's the same arrogance that MS showed with the XB1, and are now feeling the sharp side of the internet's tongue!
I agree competition is good, but even if Sony dominate I don't see them slacking off.
During the PS2 era they had massive market share, and yet we saw some of the greatest games ever created released during this time.
During the original NES era Ninty has something like a 95% market share, and yet they released some awesome stuff.
The Wii dominated last gen sales (for the most part), and yet Nintendo didn't slack off with the WiiU - t...
This doesn't really strike me as 'appalling'. Yes, mistakes were made and it could have been handled better, but that is not appalling service.
C64! WUT! No wayz dude!
Spectrum 4eva! :)
(I had a Speccy 128k +3, bloody useless device! I asked for a +2 with the tape deck and for some reason received the 'better' +3 with the disk drive... great! Games cost more and less to choose from and I ended up having to buy a tape deck and cable to plug in to it.)
Happy days
Btw... The Amiga did spank the Atari ST and I'll fight anyone who says different!!
If we're talking ethics, we're talking moral principles - are we really questioning whether it's morally / ethically right to want a a particular company to have greatest market share to the detriment of competitors? Seriously? 1st world problems eh - they're a real ethical dilemma! Oh no should I not buy a PS4 and influence my friends to do the same because MS / Nintendo may go hungry! Can I live with myself for denying Steve Bullmer another cheeseburger? Will Miyamoto en...
The signal to noise ratio on N4G is quite astoundingly bad.
As much as I enjoy coming to this site (mainly for the over the top reactions and trolling), the amount of news compared to the amount of hit seeking crud is very one sided.
The games industry just doesn't generate that much news, but the 'journalistic' industry that has sprung up around it seems so desperate to keep the advertising money rolling in that they'll post anything.
...
How about...
I fear the XBO will struggle due to high price point
I fear WiiU is going to go the same way as the GameCube due to lack of 3rd party support
Both are articles more relevant than 'I fear the PS4 has nothing to offer.'
A quick look at PlayStation's track record would show that Sony are likely to offer a lot - and won't just blow their wad in the first 2 years like MS did with the 360.
I agree the number of 'Mark Cerny said' articles is getting tiresome but it's not really his fault. He's not given many talks / interviews. It's just websites are fishing for hits by reporting him piecemeal instead of just once.
Any chance we could get a section on N4G dedicated to Mark Cerny!! :)
Seems like every other article is quoting him. Not complaining - it's good to see positive information, but my goodness has he ever become the poster boy for PS4!
Sure...there's only about a billion PC's in the world that could be used for development, and platforms like Steam and Desura, so I can see where Indies have really been held back!
