Ah Zhuk. It's this type of blind fanboyism that makes it such a delight to read the comments on this site.

I love Mass Effect too, but to deny it's many flaws just makes you look a bit... well, silly really. It seems to me you are happy to paper over the flaws in any game which is 360 exclusive. How sad that you are missing out on some great gaming experiences on 'other' consoles because of your staunch (and vaguely worrying) love of a particular inanimate electrical device....

I'm not sure there can be a winner in this format war.

Normally price dictates the winner, however in this case, even if the players drop in price the discs are still very expensive compared to DVD.

If the discs also drop in price then things get more appealing. But any drop in Hi-Def disc prices will probably mean a further drop in DVD prices.

Also, there's a problem of education... If your average consumer sees the same movie on the shelf for tw...

"Adults have different tastes in movies, and so far HD-DVD is releasing more movies in line with adult tastes. Movies like Casablanca, Grand Prix, Blade Runner, The Searchers, Forbidden Planet, Rio Bravo, and Blazing Saddles, to name just a few".

Not that I support either format (although I do own a PS3), but from your list of titles, quite a few of them are on Blu-Ray as well...

Blade Runner: Final Cut, The Searchers, Rio Bravo, Blazing Saddles.

Not sure I agree with your there Chubear...

I loved both the Saturn and Dreamcast, but Sega made some really bad choices, either with hardware design, timing of release, or gaining 3rd party support.

Sega made the bold and brave move to become a publisher/developer only and now they can bring their brand of games to whichever console they feel works best for a particular IP.

In many ways Sega are no longer restricted by their own platform limitatio...

I loved the Dreamcast. Even with it's lower hardware specs I always thought it had great graphics, and much better than the PS2 (although that may be nostalgia talking!!)

It still ranks as the console I bought the most peripherals for... two Fishing rods, steering wheel, 3 extra controllers, mouse & keyboard, two lightguns, a few VMU's, samba shakers and probably other stuff I've forgotten about!

It still ranks as one of my all time favourite consoles. Not ...

Agreed.

We've been waiting 10 years for the game... I have a feeling we'll still be waiting for some solid Duke news tomorrow.

Teaser trailers rarely give away much at all. However, as the post states on the 3DRealms website, they ARE working on a full trailer.

I'm not sure how console FPS' are killing modern gaming. Considering how long PC FPS' (and other PC genres) have had a 'Quick Save' and 'Quick Load' feature I don't think the problem lies with any one genre or format.

Surely it comes down to how devs impliment saves. I've often wondered why they don't change the save method based on the difficulty level selected - very few games do this.

In an FPS for example, if a player chooses Easy, they respawn near to wher...

There's 3 extremes of bad save type and respawn and I hate them all...

Mass Effect... 'The Mulligan'
Any game with a big focus on story needs to have a save/respawn system that compliments the world the devs have created. Mass Effect should be an immersive game, but I found that every time I died to have the area 'reset' broke that immersion. It was pretty obvious they had no idea how to handle save points in the game. Why would I save part way through a level, only to...

Having completed Mass Effect yesterday I have to say I agree with what Edge said in their review, but would have given a score of 8/10 rather than 7.

I loved almost every moment of the game. After CoD4 it's my favourite game of the year, but that doesn't mean I can not be objective and see it's faults. In my opinion the game is worth 8/10 and no more.

This year we've seen a lot of games get crazy high scores, and while I don't always agree with Edge they are u...

The blame for this lies mainly with BT... they are desperate to wring the last ounce of bandwidth out of copper lines; so they can avoid spending out on fibre for as long as possible.

Another problem is the sluggish nature of the Government. It is their repsonsibility to ensure we are not left behind, but in typical fashion it'll be too little too late.

It will be a bit of kick in the nuts when places like India have faster, cheaper and more reliable connections...

The ONLY thing the PS3 needed to do right is give us a platform to play awesome games!

For a while it looked dodgy, but the PS3 is now showing a strong, diverse and interesting line-up of titles.

It doesn't matter if some devs are struggling with the architecture, it doesn't matter whether Blu-Ray and Cell were right or wrong decisions, it doesn't matter whether online is free or not... What does matter is that this year I've played some great games on PS3.

I have a lot of respect for Minter. But I'm not sure how relevant his output is in the current industry.

I'm not saying that games like his are no longer needed or wanted - quite the opposite in fact. But the game has to be good.

Space Giraffe was not a good game. The fundamental mechanics were there for a solid game, but the way it was wrapped up and presented was not good... The biggest problem was that the crazy backgrounds often obscured the action... This...

Good for Eurogamer! If they feel it's 'only' worth 8/10 then fair play to them for sticking by their convictions. Personally this is a game that's #1 on my wishlist this year, but I respect their opinion a lot.

The last few months have seen more and more games getting stupidly high reviews, with websites just 'following the herd' or giving extremely harsh reviews just to get more traffic. it's almost like some sites are afraid of losing traffic, so don't dare give honest rev...

Well done Codies! Nice to see a Brit company doing well under this Government's indifference to the gaming industry!

I went to their HQ about 8 years or so ago for a job interview... Didn't get the job, but it seemed like a really nice place to work!!

Now, when are we getting a next-gen version of Dizzy???

I agree with you Wil4hire, to a certain extent; but better safe than sorry. At the moment this just seems like Trend making a play for market share. If they can get even 1% of PS3 owners to buy their security software, that's a nice chunk of change.

The PS3 should be a fairly robust system, but I can think of at least a couple of potential threats...

It's not beyond the realms of possibility that a vulnerablility could be found through downloading hacked game s...

Mario Galaxy is great, but Mario 64 was one of those special gaming moments.

None of these changes have any sort of negative effect on MS, and could actually be positive.

MS still has Halo and a good deal of influence at Bungie - they just no longer have to bankroll them. They get first refusal on all new Bungie IP, but Bungie pay the dev costs... sounds good for MS.

The PGR franchise was big, but no Forza or Gran Turismo. Technically they haven't lost it, they just might have to share it with Sony IF Bizarre decide to do PGR5.

I'm kinda torn over HS. It was fun, and definitely better than the reviews made out, but compared to God of War 1 & 2 it's fairly 2nd rate in terms of action games.

The art direction (provided by Andy Serkis) and characters really helped add flavour and depth. There were a couple of levels ('Escape' in particular) which got the pulse racing; and novel game play mechanics (guiding the canonballs) that makes me hope they create a sequel.

What is a bit concerni...

If this generation has shown one thing it's that each manufacturer has finally cemented differing strategies.

Previous gens had three cometitors each doing roughly the same thing. This time, we have Nintendo going for the casual non-HD market, MS hitting the hardcore gamer and really maturing as a competitor; and Sony going balls out with a fairly risky strategy and hoping to appeal to everyone. This really shows that the industry we love is maturing and evolving.
