Just to speculate a bit...
iTunes as a 'Steam' type distribution channel for PC, Mac and mobile games perhaps? (They are already there with iPod games).
Maybe they are thinking of also incorporating a Windows Live or NGage type of thing for iPods/iTouch/iPhone and other mobile phones?
Whatever they do I'm less than interested unless it's innovative and radical and unique!!! The console and PC markets are crowded enough, mobile games are exploding ...
I'm looking forward to the Aliens RPG more than the FPS - but I really hope both are awesome.
A new Red Faction game. That's pretty sweet. It's interesting to look back at the original - one of the first FPS games to incorporate somewhat destructible environments. Be cool to see if they take that idea further as it seems to be the big thing at the moment (Fracture, Battlefield : BC, FarCry 2 and so on).
ZOMG OH NOES!!! I'm ignored by PoG!! :)
Obviously 'out of sight, out of mind' must be the best defense some fanboys have to someone trying to add an alternative view to the usual PS3 and 360 fanboy spin.
It's not trying to downplay good news about the precious 360, but looking at it as someone who has been involved with forecasting supply and demand for a global company.
Ok, it's a good thing 360's are still selling well... but let's be realistic for a moment.
Chances are MS are not running production at 100% - they get as many consoles in the shops for the Holiday season and then reduce production and sell out what's left and keep production running high enough to meet projections. Simple inventory management.
What's happened here, I believe, is that MS' forcasting is a bit out. They possibly sold more consoles over the Holida...
Excellent. Still one of my fave games.
Would be great to see this on ALL the consoles.
So, when the US is a priority they get the game 3 months before Europe... But when Europe is the priority we get it 2 days before!!
Damn it, I say delay the US launch by 3 months!
:)
If people are trying to put numbers against the fun they are having then perhaps the more interesting/valid comparison would be to do it over the same timeframe - for example Year 1 of each console's life span.
It's indesputable that the 360 has more AAA titles, that's natural considering it's been out longer. So there's really no way of getting a really accurate comparison. You could compare the same time frame, or compare the same number of titles (i.e. the top 50 on each),...
There's no excusing the lack of good games on the Wii. I've always been a huge supporter of Nintendo, but the success of the Wii is starting to look a little hollow for owners.
Nintendo are turning in to the 'Apple' of the video games industry. People want a Wii because it is seen as a cool, must have, desirable item in the same way the masses view the iPod.
I've owned/rented quite a few Wii games and the majority have been rubbish. Even Mario Galaxy disappoin...

Disconnect your new Xbox from the internet and try running those XBLA games you bought and re-downloaded from Live.
You may find they have all reverted back to Demo status. Reconnect to internet and they'll magically reappear as full purchased games again...
The problem isn't re-downloading it's being able to use them while disconnected from Live, or under a different profile on ...
"I want an Xbox with Blu-ray, less heat, and quieter fans."
Isn't that called a PS3??? j/k :)
@ gnothe1
My post wasn't intended to be pro Sony, just to use the company as an appropriate example where necessary - they are rather successful in this market, no?
As I said in my post the Cell is not gamecentric - it doesn't lend itself to easy game development. But in a couple of years (let alone 10) the tools and middleware will be well developed and coders will have got to grips with it. But for a non-gaming processor it's producing some really good stuff!...
I could just about forgive MS for killing Xbox1 so early in it's life. But I wouldn't be willing to do it again if they kill the 360.
This is all speculation on my part, so feel free to disagree or discuss!!
Lets say that MS introduce the Next XBox on a 5 year cycle, which seems likely.
The problem here is that it seems like we're heading towards diminishing returns as hardware moves on. The jump from XBox to Xbox360 is massive (as is PS2 to PS3)...
Not long. Can't recall exactly, but it's fairly early in the game. Probably 2-3 hours in...
Depends how many side quests you start (although you can always do these a little later if you are eager to get to the DLC stuff).
What a whinge!
Who'd of thought you'd need a spaceship to explore the new planets!!!
I guess the risk comes with trying to span multiple genres. There's potential for confusing the consumer.
Also the money it's cost to actually make them game may never be recouped.
Finally I suppose there's the risk the game will get average reviews and tank. The comment "I believe it's going to be one of the greatest franchises in our industry and will rival World of Warcraft or The Sims or Rock Band. It's going to be right up there." shows EA are probab...
Good for Destructoid. Nice to know some sites still have a bit of integrity.
All good valid points that show MS really did think of the end user when designing some aspects of the 360.
Personally I prefer the XMB GUI compared to the Blade interface - although neither is perfect... For example I find it annoying having to wait while my XBLA games slowly appear in the Library list; but I also find it annoying that managing folders in XMB is so naff!
Yeah, the noise of the console is definitely a purchasing factor for me when choosing multiplat games.
I bought a 360 on launch, so had no idea that it sounded like a jet engine!!!
I just hope it RRoD's sometime near the end of warranty so I get a quieter replacement model!! (I'm on my third 360 now)
Apologies to any sensitive 360 owners. This isn't meant as a flamebait comment. I love my 360 dearly... Without it I wouldn't have played Crackdown...
I totally agree Silellak, bottom line profit will always be king.
But profit does not directly correlate to units sold. We don't know how much a particular game costs to dev (in most cases), so Game A may sell less but make more profit than Game B because it cost less to make.
Devs/publishers will definitely be interested in seeing how much of the install base buys a product because it gives them an indication of potential sales for a particular genre/IP/style o...
Wow Jenzo! With that sort of 'insider knowledge' perhaps you should create a poorly designed blog and fill it with vague and usually obvious predictions!! :)
If you need any help I have some super secret insider knowledge myself... Microsoft will publish some games during 2008! AND Nintendo are working on a successor to the DS to be released -sometime- in the future. AND, get this, Killzone 2 will be exclusive to PS3... Yeah, really!
:)
