Absolutely agree...
MS (and Sony) can claim 'the greatest ever' whatever the hell they like. But in business the 'greatest thing ever' is sustainable profit... and Nintendo really have that sown up compared to the other two!!!
Yeah, I'm interested to see how DMC4 and Burnout did in comparative sales.
Lets say the above games (and GTAIV) all sell similar amounts... Does that mean the PS3 versions sold better (as there's a smaller install base), or that the Xbox versions failed to sell as well (because of the bigger install base).
The important figure here is % of install base who pick up the game. If the PlayStation number is higher it could show that either PS3 owners have been waitin...
It'll be interesting to see which prevails in sales. I think it'll be a close run thing.
Personally I know a couple of people who are buying PS3's just for GTAIV. I've asked them why they want it on PS3 and it really came down to the PlayStation brand. Grand Theft Auto is seen as more closely tied with the PlayStation than with XBox. They owned the previous versions on PS2, so will naturally progress to the PS3.
Also, the extra content the 360 is getting didn...
Totally pointless article - why even bother with negligible comparisons (loading times in an open world game, graphics); and claiming one version is 'best' based on personal preference categories which may be different for every reader.
IF you own both consoles and need to decide (as I did) it comes down to other factors as I KNOW both games run flawlessly and look great.
After squaring away controls and online experience, it came down to this...

And yet I look at Uncharted and Ratchet and all thoughts of memory footprints and bottlenecks suddenly evaporate...
I think there's a good chance BC is now a thing of the past on PS3.
On the bottom of the download/info page for the contest it states:
" 1 - Design your maps around your platform of choice (PC, Xbox 360, or PS3); as you never know where it could end up."
Fingers crossed it means downloadable maps for all platforms!
Sony may have released a lot of SKU's, but there's only ever two on the market at a time - so not too confusing for most people.
Plus where's the confusion when all the core features are in every PS3?
MS really dropped the ball in this respect by not including an HDD in every model.
I think it's far more confusing for a consumer to have to choose which XBox360 will work with which games... Burnout Paradise err, no online without HDD. FFXI must have an...
So Mr Bubble, when the 360 is outselling the PS3 it's a massive win, a sign of the PS3's impending doom, and proof that Bill Gates actually loves you rather than your money...
Yet when the PS3 looks like it's starting to eat away at the 360 suddenly it has to be compared to the Wii for sales, or overall market share.
I love the way people will change the criteria for success to keep their favoured platform on top!!
Well done Sony. This may only be one quarter, but considering all the negativity surrounding the PS3 it's a good result.
The profit made may indeed be down to the PS2 and PSP rather than PS3, but surely that's a sign of a good strategy.
Most of us armchair commentators had written off Sony a while back. It's only in the last few months that I have started to appreciate what Sony are trying to achieve.
I'm sure MS wish they could have turned th...
The problem here is that no matter how great the final game ends up (or not) a DEMO is supposed to sell the game, entice people in, and ultimately sell more copies.
If a demo is bad, no amount of dev blogging and promises is going to change the opinion of a gamer who thought it sucked.
:) I'd consider Average and OK the same thing - but my overuse of 'at best' was poor!! For a launch title it exceeded normal expectations by a long way. Compared to PDZ or Kameo on 360 it blew the doors off them!
I'm glad you like the multiplayer and split-screen, it's just personal preference that I didn't like it. What I was trying to point out is that bigger numbers don't instantly mean better or more fun which many Sony faboys seem to use as ammo (ironically a total abo...
Just to play devils advocate here and address some of the comments...
10-20% of SPU's has nothing to do with only using 10-20% of the PS3's power. The PPE could have been maxed at 100% for the whole game. What does that mean in terms of Resistance 2 or the perceived quality of Res 1? Nothing.
We have no point of reference as to what 10-20% means in real terms, or what is the theoretical maximum. Is it even possible to utilise 100% of the SPE power? Is the fi...
If you're hacked off with poor Customer Service, it's always worth emailing someone senior in the company.
Most people at CEO / Exec level (in a large company) will have their emails screened if they are from unknown sources - most often by a PA. But they are usually dealt with quickly to avoid adverse publicity, and quite often simply because employees lower down the ladder are not authorised/empowered to make decisions.
I've done this with Sky (UK satellite TV...
These figures come down to one thing... profit.
The numbers sold by Sony and MS are nothing but bragging rights... Neither console is turning a profit right now, so the only thing that matters is that Sony/MS are providing a platform for developers to make profitable games. Both are doing that.
As gamers the total console's sold mean nothing to us. The only time it is relevant is when titles start to get cancelled for one machine or the other. To an extent thi...
All very valid points - however I can't see MS changing their policy/pricing.
They just announced 10million subscribers. That's a nice chunk of change every month, especially considering they are still making a loss on the hardware.
As an owner of both 360 and PS3 I can say with out reservation that I prefer PSN, because the few areas where it can not compete with XBox Live are more than offset by it's lack of subscription fees.
Also PSN is a l...
Dude, you're like SO 1990's!! :) j/k
It's all about TrueSkill matchmaking these days!!
Seriously... You'll find the 360 online experience never lets you anywhere near a server as it handles everything for you.
The PS3 seems more divided. For example in WarHawk you can browse the server lists and jump in (like most PC games) - but others such as CoD4 handle things for you.
I suspect in the future Sony will ensure developers move towa...
I hope they get the patch out soon. I spent 20 mins trying to join games last night, only for the lobby to close as soon as I got in :(
Strangely it seems some game types are more accessible than others. I rarely have to wait long to get in to Search and Destroy games, but Free for All and Ground War rarely connect. That wouldn't be so bad, but I'm not a fan of Search and Destroy!!
On a side note... Has anyone in the UK noticed that it's almost impossible to f...
These figures, even if they are a bit inaccurate, are pretty interesting.
Forgetting the fanboy wars for a moment... Lets say VGChartz got it wrong (again) and the 360 actually outsold the PS3 by 180k or whatever... that's still a hugely impressive performance by the PS3!
It was generally accepted (by most non-biased gamers) that the 360 had a phenomenal line-up for this holiday period which blew the Ps3 out of the water. So if these figures are accurate and the...
Has this been confirmed?
You're probably right...
I just kinda assumed that it would be free as MS paid a few million to Rockstar on our behalf! :)
It's obvious that both games are going to get DLC - I just wonder how big or how much the 360 exclusive stuff will add to the game overall.
