What are we using to define the terms to identify the 'winner'?

Units sold?

Profit?

Attach rate?

Highest average Metacritic scores?

Number of exclusives, regardless of quality?

There's only 2 things that matter in the industry...

1. The manufacturers make a profit

2. The developers/publishers make a profit

Everything else is secondary or a matter of pride. ...

Before we all get too excited, someone posted this link in the Open Zone...

Claims the pics are fake!

Oh well, I'm still looking forward to this game.

X-Men gets my vote!

Although a couple of ideas...

Aliens

Or

Metal Gear Solid

Actually what I'd really like to see is a LEGO RTS game done really well... The point of RTS' is often to build up forces... the point of LEGO is to build stuff... a perfect fit maybe!

@6.5 - WageSlave

I assume you took the value of 1.69 billion USD from the Market Capitalization figure? That just looks at share value (price per share multiplied by number of shares issued) and is only one way to value a company and doesn't reflect the actual price someone might have to pay.

What that doesn't take in to account (I believe) is the Goodwill associated with Capcom. Goodwill is the intangible assets such as IP's. And Capcom has a wealth of very d...

True, it was wide open... but I kinda like the idea of seeing a whole new adventure. In the same way as Indiana Jones movies always moved to a new location with a new challenge.

It would be cool to have some cross-over with events in Uncharted 1 though - even if it's just in little bits of dialogue or throw away comments only people who played the original would get.

Good post. Have a bubble.

Enthusiastic posts like yours is what drives the gaming industry to provide richer, bigger and better games (in both gameplay and 'technology'). And luckily in this generation we have two consoles in the 360 and PS3 with the power to do this.

Every time a developer announces something cool, a gamer can come up with something even cooler. We may be demanding consumers, but in no other media or medium is there such potential for creativ...

Uncharted was a pleasant surprise. I've always been a fan of Naughty Dog, but nothing about the game screamed Buy Me for some reason.. Even the demo failed to change my mind.

I picked it up as a rental, and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. Although the story was a little cliched (well, a lot actually), it was very well told and had some nice humorous moments. It definitely comes under one of those titles with 'personality'.

So Uncharted 2 would be pretty high ...

Tough day for Microsoft... First RRoD at GDC, now they're worse than Hitler!! Sometimes you can't catch a break!! :)

I don't believe for a second that Counter Strike players are training on this game to murder people... Most of the players I've encountered couldn't hit the side of a barn!!

I think we all know MS has a vested interest in digital downloads rather than physical formats, but from a consumers perspective I hope MS does pick up Blu Ray.

The more Blu Ray devices sold the quicker hardware and media costs drop. I've got a PS3, but I've just about resisted buying Blu Ray movies (I own one movie) because the price is a rip off.

What the article fails to mention is that most people like material possessions. A physical disc has it's downside...

Another post full of facts eh Mart!?

Perhaps it's an HDMI issue - so maybe the 360 would work better. After all, most 360's sold have no HDMI port so good OLD component might just be to the 360's advantage.

Claim it's not fit for purpose and get it refunded under warranty. If the TV is sold as HD Ready (and has the sticker on it), then it should work with any HD device.

Now that would be a huge move by MS. Wasn't there a rumour about this last year?

the number of massive IP's Capcom hold (new and old) would be stuninng to lcok down to one console.

I don't know how much it would actually help MS in Japan though. Capcom seem to be targetting western gamers more these days. The problem MS has in Japan goes way beyond getting good titles out there.

As an unbiased gamer I would certainly gravitate towards a platform...

Valid points Bibto.

The only thing I would add is that while Unreal Engine is obviously hugely popular with third party cross platform devs, it's not the only choice.

All the big publishers have alternatives (Renderware is now EA's and Burnout is a very good advert for the powe rof that engine). Ubisoft have something special going on as well (name escapes me right now). iD have a new engine coming soon as well. Plus all the big PS3 developers have custom engin...

Epic are NEVER worth 1 billion! It wouldn't surprise me to find that Epic 'leaked' the story of MS buying them just to drum up interest in a buyout...

MS surely have learned their lesson from buying Rare! Even if the next Banjo game turns out to be the best thing ever there's no way Rare's output has been worth their price.

Epic are turning in to a one trick pony, and even that trick is starting to look old. Unreal Tournament hasn't sold well and other than im...

Bringing Magic to XBLA will be awesome (hopefully). Would be nice if they also did a PSN version, but oh well.

As an adult gamer it does embarras me somewhat to say this, but if you exclude all the cartoony rubbish from YuGiOh, you actually have one of the best card games ever created. I'd really like to see that on PSN/XBLA, but then again it works perfectly well on the DS and has the added advantage of being portable.

I'm not sure it would be a massive blow.

Although Unreal Engine is working on the PS3 now, it was obviously a difficult fit to begin with. If it's still not a perfect solution then Sony and PS3 devs in general may not be missing out on much.

Also, looking at the big devs on PS3 most have created their own engines (Naughty Dog, Insomniac, Square Enix, Kojima Productions), so Sony could dish out a few incentives to get an Insomniac or Naughty Dog engine out to third p...

But not all games use it. Look at the 'big' titles which have less of an install... Ratchet, Uncharted, Burnout all use next to nothing. So the argument that slow Blu-Ray drives are to blame is rubbish.

Looks at how many games are in the PS3 library... Look at how many of those require a 5GB install... It's a rather small percentage!!

The only dev to do this is Capcom. So before people jump on the 'WTF, my hard drive is going to get filled', it's very few games that do this and only one developer so far.

Prior to these TWO Capcom games the highest install was Oblivion I think with 4GB. I've also seen a few games with 1 or 2GB installs. But on average installs...
