I don't see the point. The Dreamcast was an amazing console, but lost out big time.
Between Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft every gamer is catered for. There's barely room for three companies, a fourth may just fragment the market too much.
To me Sega have always been a company who make great arcade games, the emphasis being on games, rather than the hardware that powered those arcade games.
Sega just need to keep concentrate on producing great new IP and...
Dude, chill :)
'Iceland' is the name of a supermarket chain in the UK. It sells horrible food for cheap prices.
riksweeney was making a joke about Haze not being on sale in 'Iceland' (the supermarket chain). I was just adding to it..
No offence meant or directed to the country (which just happens to be named after a supermarket chain /joke).
Are you talking about the Country or the UK Supermarket chain, Pezus?
If it's the country the answer to your question is No. If it's the supermarket, the answer is definitely Yes.
Vienetta FTW!!
I can only assume that someone disagreed with me because...
a) They shop in Iceland.
Don't worry there's nothing wrong with admitting you're a pikey. I hope you enjoy your 99p Jumbo Shrimp Ring, even if it (and the majority of their food) tastes like it's been digested and expelled at least once before being packaged in a 5 items for a fiver deal.
or
b) They find fat, gobby, talentless, vacuous, attention grabbing, hanging on to 'celebrity' by ...
Don't worry riksweeney. I got the joke! :)
I guess the rest of the world isn't clued in to our pikey supermarkets and attention whoring Z-List celebs.
I don't think this says anything negative about the PS3 at all...
Compare PS3 sales to PS2 sales at the same point in their life cycle. PS3 is ahead (according to Sony).
Look at the price point of the PS2 compared to PS3. The PS2 is now almost an impulse buy. The Wii has also shown that a lower price point works well - I suspect the Wii would not have sold as many if it was at the PS3's price point.
Look at how long the PS2 has been out. A 10 year+ l...
I agree with you to a pint, but brand recognition has to be earned - and you can hardly blame Sony for trading on that strength.
Just like in the 80's people didn't play console games they 'played Nintendo'. People don't vacuum, they 'Hoover'. People don't photocopy, they 'Xerox'.
Somehow through a combination of being in the right place at the right time, with a quality and desirable product, backed with good marketing and a little luck some brands go beyond being...
My preference of console really ebbs and flows depending on one simple thing... Which one I'm playing on more!
At the moment it's Playstation. But when Fable 2 comes out I'll be singing the praises of Xbox (I hope).
If I was to air a preference regarding the fundamental hardware value, I would give it to the PS3. For me the PS3 represents better bang for my buck. Again, at a HARDWARE level the PS3 has a lot more going for it... Reliability, built in WiFi, Blu-Ray,...
Just to play devils advocate here...
Could it be:
- A genuine mistake?
Probably not as a refurb is unlikely to be packaged at the same place an original (i.e. China or whatever for new vs local for repair)
- Intentional ploy by MS?
It is illegal to sell refurb units as brand new and I just can't see a company doing this intentionally.
- All 10 were from one shop?
We don't know the facts, but could it be that the shop employ...
That's kinda impressive all round really...
It's impressive that the PS2 is still selling. That really does Sony proud that they created such a phenomenal machine.
It's also impressive that apparently the PS3 is selling better than the PS2 did at the same point in it's life cycle. In effect the PS3 is doing well at a higher price point and not only competing with XBox360 and Wii, but also the original PS2.
I hope Sony continues with sort of strategy (i...
Rare have underachieved since the day Nintendo made the smart move of offloading them.
Since way back as Ultimate Play the Game, and later as Rare through the N64 years they were a serious force in gaming.
Unfortunately most of the talent must have left around the time that MS bought them, because everything has been lacklustre since.
Kameo was solid, but did it really live up to the potential of a game that had been in development for so damn long.
The Dreamcast really was ahead of it's time in some respects. Such a shame it was so severely crushed by Sega's ineptitude and Sony's PS2.
It really did have some of the best RPG's, racing, fighting, platforming and innovative titles which are still a joy to play today. I don't think I've ever owned another console where I could easily list 30-50 titles that were just awesome.
How different things might have been if Sega had equipped it to play DVD's out of the box...
I used to always build my own PC's. The combination of knowing exactly the quality of components, and the fun of putting it together were unmatched. Then there was the tweaking...
But in the end I got bored of this. It was just too much hassle. And while I have every respect to people who build their rigs, I just can't be bothered these days!! I guess as I get older I just like the hassle free nature of a good warranty and next day service if anything goes wrong!!
Not a great article.
I think Gamesradar is confusing nostalgia for 'seeing things through rose tinted glasses'.
We can all see faults in older games now. The combat in FFVII was a little flawed by today's standards; the translation a little flaky in places. Anyone who says different is looking at the game through rose tinted glasses.
But there's nothing wrong with nostalgia. The effect of Aerith's death was powerful because a main characters death was...
What's the saying...?
'No such thing as bad publicity'.
EA get two upcoming games back in to the news. Well done EA, great marketing. Did they ever intend to even ship the games with SecuROM, or did they use the internet furore to make themselves look like the good guys who listen to their consumers!?
If you appreciate a good painting you may see a great piece of art. Get up close and you may see a few rough brush strokes. Are you honestly going to care?
If people are expecting any console this generation to produce amazing up close textures in a fast moving game they are idiots.
Call of Duty 4 has some appalling textures when you get close - does anyone care? I sure don't. The game looks amazing.
If people really cared about up-close texture qual...
I've been disappointed so far with the Wii, but I have reason to be hopeful.
Most 3rd party devs didn't seem all that bothered by the Wii before launch. Considering it takes approx 2 years to dev a AAA game I would imagine most developers jumped on the Wii shortly after it's explosive launch.
Which would mean that towards the end of this year, or early next we'll start seeing the fruits of those developers.
Personally I think the Codemasters driving games rank up there alongside PGR, GT, Forza and Burnout for fun.
They strike a great balance between realism and arcadey (leaning more towards arcade).
TOCA 2 on the Playstation is still one of my favourite race games, and the 'Race driver' series has been criminally overlooked.
I'd rather see a new Jak game before Uncharted 2. The Jak series was one of the best on PS2 and would be amazing on PS3.
The friendly rivalry Naughty Dog has with Insomniac really pushes these two devs on to produce some of the most stunning games on any console.
OMFG!!1!!! I MUST buy this game now I know it's actually 720p... because, y'know, after finding out the demo was less than 720 I instantly cancelled my pre-order /sarcasm
A good game is a good game regardless of the resolution. I'm looking forward to Haze.
