GTAIV has a good story, but has lost a lot of the incidental fun stuff.
I recall reading an article (in Edge magazine I think) where the developer said he hated the term Sandbox game. Maybe Rockstar wanted to ensure the game was more story focused and less sandbox. I know a few people who ignored most of the story in previous GTA's because they were happy just running around shooting stuff up and enjoying all the little fun things you could do.
I love GTAIV, but I'...
@fredy
Sooner or later people should realise that Sony said those things for one reason only... To take away focus from the 360 launch.
If anyone actually believed that the PS3 was going to launch with 4 network ports and 2 HDMI ports they were just deluded (Sony) fanboys or suckers.
Sony fed the world a huge pack of lies during that E3 with the pre-rendered footage, but at that point they would have sold their Grandma's (and probably did) to try and get...
oops, reply to wrong post!!
Valve have always been PC developers, so it totally makes sense that they are playing to their strengths.
I respect Valve, but they've been trading off the success of Half Life for a long time now. HL2 was OK, but 6 years and 40million good? Nah. The episodic content has been really weak in my opinion as well.
Portal was excellent, but that's not really a Valve game as such. The original idea was from a bunch of students who Valve snapped up after they graduated....
If Apple were smart, they would ramp up iTunes to support the delivery of full games on Macs (rather than the casual stuff they have now for iPods etc).
By applying their DRM knowledge to gaming it may reduce piracy, which would make developing for Mac a more compelling prospect.
If recent reports are to be believed, Macs are very slowly eating in to PC market share. If this continues and Apple help out the publishers with delivery/DRM I could see the Mac becoming a...
Wasn't there an article recently stating that the PS3 reached 12 million units 5 months faster than the 360?
That's pretty good going I reckon.
The 360 may still be ahead in sales by the time Microsoft pull the plug on it and launch it's Next Box. But just as we've seen with the PS2, the PS3 will have much better longevity, so in the long run the PS3 will outsell the 360 purely on the fact it's going to have a longer shelf life.
Some of those features are nice, but none are essential.
I have access to a MacBook Pro and a Vista based laptop. There's little in it for me really. I find some things on the Mac annoying, and some things in Vista annoying. I prefer Vista to be honest.
I've used Ubuntu extensively, but I'd rather have an OS that does almost everything out of the box (activating mp3 play back etc).
What people tend to forget (or ignore) is that one of the big advantag...
This seems like a load of rubbish.
Why would Sony build in to the DRM the feature to download a PSN title to 5 different PS3's if they didn't want us to use the feature!?
We have two PS3's in our household. I bought a load of PSN titles, and I downloaded them to both the PS3's. The reason being I use both. The fact that other people who also use those PS3's can play some of the PSN titles is not my problem... It's a feature Sony built in.
To suggest p...
Just had my first lock up (ironically I was reading this post as I was loading the game)!!
I've got the PS3 version. Just got stuck at the loading screen for 'Beginners Guide to Deconstruction' or something similar. Have had no issues at all before this. I have the 60GB PS3, but have upgraded the HDD.
A reboot and disconnect from PSN and it loaded no problems.
I get the feeling their multiple reasons why it's locking up so there's not one solution. ...
In terms of entertainment, I loved them. Creative and totally different from what everyone was expecting. Plus the Stan Winston Studio are a bunch geniuses!
As for actually advertising the product to people who had not previously bought a Halo game... The feeling I got was 'What the hell? I want to see the game'.
I think new episodes only aired on Sundays or something, other than that it was repeat after repeat (I saw a review of Halo 3 yesterday morning!!!)
A buddy of mine who worked in the office next door to Gamer TV's always said they'd go under sooner rather than later from what he could see of the way it was run! 5 years is a pretty good stint though.
Shame. I liked the show.
With the video games industry growing year on year it's surprising that shows li...
And that's the great thing about games.... Different people can like different things.
Saying SSHD is not exciting just sounds crazy to me; as does saying Pain is more addictive!! But to each their own.
I disagree with your previous comment that 'It's a Geometry Wars style game'. You think Geometry Wars created a genre or something? Robotron was hanging around long before. And while SSHD does share some simularities (twin stick control), I think it's much more of...
Hard to say if the example you give is indicative of the whole of the UK. Earlier in this thread it was mentioned the PS3 version was out of stock, but 360 version was on shelves.
Where I live both formats are sold out! :)
In general I'd say that logistics and stock forecasting would dictate that more copies should have been pressed for the 360 because of the larger install base. With the PS3 posting numbers so close to the 360's sale figures I'd be more inclined t...
That's some impressive figures, so well done Rockstar.
What does it mean to Sony and MS?
Well, in bottom line terms it's always better to sell more. So from per copy license point of view Microsoft made more money (assuming license fees are similar between platforms).
However when you look at install base sales, the PS3 actually did better. If we take the install bases as roughly 1.2million PS3's, and 2.3 Xbox 360's then the figures work out as about 2...
Surely instead of nitpicking tiny flaws between the two versions, we should be thanking R* for creating such an awesome game.
R* have shown, as have Criterion and a few others, that a talented bunch of devs can create fantastic multiplatform games which run almost equally on both PS3 and 360.
It really puts in to perspective the relative lack of appreciation or talent some publishers/developers have for the PS3. GTAIV shows there's really no excuse for devs to creat...
I've said the same thing myself many times. People are bashing N4G for being 'pro-Sony', but those people must have short memories! The PS3 got crucified on this site on a daily basis not so long ago!
On a side note... Some of the comments on that forum, make N4G posts look like Shakespeare!
I thought a lot of those pics looked like models posed and photographed!! :) I'm kinda glad the game didn't look like that!
The art direction in Halo 3 was pretty cool, but the actual quality of the graphics was a bit disappointing I thought. The game itself was good fun, and solid Halo action. I would have liked bigger scale battles though.
Bungie missed an opportunity to really finish the fight in massive style - but it was fun while it lasted. Dunno how some m...
Compared to Mario 64, I think it's a lesser experience. I may be in a minority (of 1 perhaps!!), but I found Galaxy a pretty turgid game with nothing new. Sure it was OK fun to begin with, but mainly because it'd been so long since a Mario 3D game had been released - but after a while it just became a bit boring.
Wow, they wrapped basic levels barely worthy of a Spiro game around spheres and all of a sudden it's a classic!
Pointless Wiimote control thrown in and su...
Your average consumer will have little idea what anti-piracy measure the game employs and won't care, unless it becomes intrusive.
With BioShock a large number of legitimate owners of the game got frustrated by the demand on the authentication servers. In effect they couldn't play the game they had paid for. This punishes legit owners while thieves get their software for free and with out the hassle of SecuROM or whatever.
We know for a fact:
- The cop...
