As an owner of both systems I would say...
Halo 3 - no way a PS3 owner should feel envious at all - way over-hyped.
Dead Rising - Yep, PS3 owners missed a treat
Mass Effect - Any RPG's for PS3 would be welcome, and Mass Effect was solid
Fable 2 - Reserve judgement until I play it. Fable was a let down, but I have faith that Fable 2 will be amazing.
Gears 1 and 2 - Fantastic game, and hopefully Gear 2 will fix the few flaws in G...
I loved the XBox1, and bought a 360 on day 1. However I would be sceptical about buying the next Xbox regardless of when it launches.
Five reasons I would be sceptical:
- Unreliable hardware (I'm on my third 360)
- Noise levels (far too loud)
- Poorly thought out hardware limiting games potential (no standard Hard disc and only DVD-9)
- Lack of innovation compared to competition (same 'ol stuff on 360)
- possible lack of overlapping and conti...
I've got the feeling Sony are going in a different direction with the PS3, and as such PSN will remain free at least until PS4 launches.
The different direction I mentioned is stuff like Qore and HOME. Both these are added services with some sort of transaction model built in. You pay for Qore, plus get embedded adverts. Home too has embedded adverts. Not only that but HOME is also going to be chock full of micro-transaction oportunities.
If these prove succe...
As someone who has just completed MGS4 (on Normal Solid) I have to say I loved every single second. I was a little concerned before buying this game as I hated MGS2 and thought MGS3 was a bit meh! - but MGS4 was an amazing journey.
However even though I think MGS4 blows BioShock out of the water for story and Halo 3 for experience. I would give the game 9/10 as even though it was the best gaming experience of 2008 so far, it's not quite perfect.
It's good to see a...
So in other words, all the guys who pick female characters so they can parade them around in underwear are complaining the devs are sexist because they make the game realistic???
To say only Geeks and Otaku want extra storage shows a huge level of ignorance.
The Wii has proved itself as a casual gamer friendly console. Part of that is due to it's ease of use.
Now ask your average casual gamer, whose technical expertise probably extends to syncing a Wiimote while following the instruction manual, to deal with a 'no more space on Wii' type of message, and move WiiWare/VC titles from console to SD card, and back again each time they want to...
MS would be better off creating a strategic partnership with Sega... In other words throw a load of money at Sega Sammy to ensure a couple of exclusives.
Otherwise they may find themselves in another Rare situation where they pay a shed load of money and have to wait years for the company to produce anything AAA (or anything at all really)!
It really depends on what the Special or Collectors versions add. I take it on a game by game basis.
I bought the Halo 3 SE and it was a huge let down (scratched discs, lame bonus stuff, nice box!). I got the Forza 2 SE and the extras turned out great (especially getting a code to unlock a unique car - although that was partly a retailer promotion I believe).
I'm not fussed about getting resin models like the BioShock SE, but I like the look of the Fallout 3 ...
Come on Bruce, get real. Regardless of pure performance specs (which tend to be skewed one way or the other depending on who is trying to get their point across) you only need to look at the games available.
Compare first party titles, or exclusives and you'll see similar quality (Uncharted vs Gears of War for example). Maybe 6-12 months ago your argument may have held water - but most recent multi-plat releases have been comparable (even GRID's framerate is not exactly a big i...
No idea what mine is, but it's long.
However a housemate of mine played Red Alert for a very long time - not entirely sure, but it was in the region of 50+ hours straight playing skirmish...
I used to get concerned walking past his room, as he seemed to have lost grasp on reality, and I never knew through his glazed stare if he'd mistake me for a enemy soldier!
Once done he claimed to keep having dreams about a Humvee crashing through the front of the su...
As the advertisements seem to be the biggest issue here, look at it another way...
With the Ads Qore costs $2.99 per month. Without the Ads it could potentially cost more!
I really don't see the issue here, when Qore comes to the UK (if it does) I'll pick up an edition and make my own judgement on the quality of the content. I like the basic idea of Qore and hope it develops.
Of course Sony are trying to empty our wallets as fast as possible! Pe...
Good point. I know a couple of people who are hard of hearing.
Years back I sent plenty of emails to developers asking that they consider subtitles for games. Luckily games are a lot better now for subtitles, but there's no excusing Sony not adding what should be a standard feature to the vids.
Civ:Rev is pretty much perfect for me. I want to love the full Civ games, but I generally find that after a few hours of play I got beat. By distilling the game down in to shorter campaigns at least I'm not wasting hours of time before I get beat!! :)
Sure, many PC veterans of the Civ series will complain about Civ:Rev, but what's the point??? Civ 4 is still an amazing game. If you like Civ but don't like the 'dumbed down' version - then go back to your Civ on PC.
Add Halo 3 and Final Fantasy XII, then remove Harvest Moon and Crazy Taxi.
Mario Galaxy at #1 is spot on.
Will probably buy a couple of 'issues' on the $3 monthly thing (assuming it launches in the UK, and pricing doesn't equate to the $1 = £1 rule!!), and if it's good will subscribe.
In this specific case, whether or not EDGE reviewed early code is irrelevant.
Their criticisms come from things that would have been fixed in stone at that point... The disjointed story. The lack of tangible objectives. The loading screens between areas.
However their overall tone is definitely positive and we have to remember 8/10 is a GREAT score.
For all the great stuff the MGS series does; if you view the game objectively (disregarding hype, and fa...
Honestly, I would give GRID a 9/10. I love it.
...what is worse lokin:
One or two biased journo's out of hundreds giving biased and unfair reviews
or
Every journalist being gagged and only allowed to talk about the features in the game which the publishers want us to know about.
In the second case we may as well not have any scores attached to games, as every one of them would have top be the same.
I agree that marketing dollars are influential in video game journa...
Yes, I have considered what the restrictions might be, and that's the problem.
Restrictions which should have no impact on score (install time) are fine.
Restrictions which are hugely subjective (cut scene length) are fine.
Restrictions which directly relate to technical limitations (such as frame rate, control, graphics/sound, loading times, lag) are not fine and should not be tolerated.
We don't know what the limitations are that K...
While business is a war zone, and winning by any means is often required, this sort of tactic by MS is actually starting to bug me (I own both PS3 and 360).
Instead of ploughing money in to desperate attempts to secure a few months lead time on multi-platforms why not invest in some new games?
I have a feeling this announcement may be the 'desperate' act that was referred to in a recent article about Microsoft's E3 announcement.
