Fine compared to PS2's dominance? No, you are right.

Fine compared to matching or exceeding the 360's growth at similar points in time since release? Yeah, they are doing OK considering they have a higher priced machine which is (sort of) underperforming in multi-plats, with the unexpected success of the Wii, and a direct competitor in MS that seems to have raised their game.

We can not expect Sony to dominate as it has done in the past. The market has changed far t...

I don't think the PS3 needs a price cut right now. Blu-Ray is gaining traction; the exclusive games will keep sales healthy; and Sony really need to be looking towards profitability rather than market share (although it looks like they are doing fine in that respect too)

If Sony are serious about pushing the console for 10 years it really needs space it's price cuts sensibly to drive growth when it needs it. It also sends the message to MS that Sony are confident enough in their...

By the authors logic...

Profit = throwing in the towel

Market share = winning

He MUST work for Microsoft! :)

So Sony get slammed for charging a high launch price for the PS3, then get slammed for not including more RAM which would have resulted in an even higher price. Great logic there!

I'm not arguing with the article (I only have to play Uncharted, Ratchet, MGS4 to know I have nothing to worry about!), but is bashing the PS3 for it's RAM the new thing after bashing the PS3 for launch price, then bashing the PS3 for not having in-game XMB?

What's next? Bashing the P...

I used to be firmly on the 'build your own rig' train, but I got tired of it.

In the end having a nice warranty and next day service goes a long way to offsetting the extra price. The extra little features are nice as well (Dell can wire up a case much more neatly than I ever could).

Plus there's always the option of using the Dell as a base unit, and then upgrading it at a later date.

Sure rigs can be built for less money with better quality part...

Hilariously biased article.

Particular high point...
"Every hour spent collecting Trophies is one less spent collecting Achievements, and that means gamerscores will rise more slowly."

So Achievements are better than Trophies because, by collecting Trophies you're not collecting Achievements!!! Lol!!

If devs want to patch in trophies that's great. Maybe I'd go back and replay games at a much later date.

However, I'd much rather see devs focus on their new projects than waste time with trophy patching old titles.

"He thinks size of the monitor affects performance. you can play 1024x720 resolution on 15" and 32" monitors and they will perform identically. resolution is what affects performance not size of the monitor."

I think the article was implying that 1920x1200 is probably the resolution most people with a large monitor are aiming for. I agree though, bad choice of wording for that part of the article,

Overall a pointless article in my opinion. ...

Whatever. If MS want to make more Halo games, good for them. It's good for the industry, good for whatever developer takes it on (if not Bungie), good for Microsoft's wallet and good for the rabid Halo fans who would lap up another game.

I've played all three and Halo CE was by far the strongest. It was truly an innovation in console FPS games, and showed that FPS games could be done on a console, and done well. (You could argue GoldenEye got there first, but I don't think i...

Perhaps if the majority of your article wasn't taking swings at Sony it wouldn't get flamed.

You barely mention the 360's issues, which are easily far more serious than one small issue with a firmware release.

In an early paragraph you mention in reference to your title that 'it's difficult to tell at this point', but later say 'No' - so which is it?

The paragraph that follows the one you quoted you then go on to make a huge assumption about gamers...

If releasing a firmware that caused problems to a tiny proportion of PS3 owners, then quickly reacting to stop the problem growing, and issuing a fix pretty damn quick is the first nail in the coffin...

...how the many nails must be in the 360's coffin!!!

(RRoD denials, 30% failure rate, firmware locking consoles, poor customer service, fixes to 360 hardware that still leave it with an above 16% failure rate, massive downtime for XBox Live over Christmas - the l...

No problem updating our two 60GB UK PS3's (one with an upgraded HDD).

However CoD4 has ferocious lag since the update (not tried any other online games).

Did have the three beeps reset when trying to update SSHD, but it got there eventually - although I was a bit surprised that the 'update' for this game was actually bigger than the original download! - I assume they just released a complete new version (4.00) instead of patching the older versions.

At the time BioShock was in development I can only assume the PS3 was at the peak of it 'Oh Noes it's hard to code for, boo hoo' with developers.

If Venom were a small team at the time they may honestly have not be able to do it (rather than it not being possible). Plus we know the Unreal Engine wasn't working too well on the PS3 until Sony stepped in and worked directly with Epic.

Any company (especially a UK one!) going under is a bad thing, people losing their jo...

For FPS games I prefer R1. To me it feels more natural having index finger on that button.

For driving I prefer the 360 triggers.

I completely hate the R2 and L2 buttons on PS controller, and I hate the D-Pad on the 360's.

Overall I think it's about a tie between them. It comes down to personal preference.

Halo : CE is definitely the pick of the bunch. Not only for the ace game play but also for all the cool moments... First time driving a Warthog, first time encountering the Flood and so on.

Shame Halo 2 and 3 lacked the same sort of punch.

So you bought a PS3 just for a game KNOWN to have long cut scenes, and from a series where the previous games also had a lot of exposition... and you were disappointed?

What were you expecting? A special version just for you where the story line was summed up in sound bites?

6560d ago 0 agree1 disagreeView comment

I was initially concerned by the rumours of excessive cut scene length. MGS2 was ruined by stop start game play at times, especially near the end.

However, not once did I think a cut scene in MGS4 was too long - they flew by as were well produced, interesting and the voice acting was consistently excellent.

Asking 'Are MGS4 cut scenes too long?' is like asking 'Is there too much shooting in Gears of War?'!

Nintendo have destroyed Zelda. I didn't mind the cell shaded graphics of Wind Waker, but the game play sucked.

I was really looking forward to another 'mature' Zelda game in Twilight Princess but I was utterly bored by it. As Nintendo hardware gets more innovative they seem to be losing the spark that made their 1st party titles so special.

Ocarina will remain the Zelda high point for me; unless Nintendo really pull something out of the bag next time - but I can't ...

I must have missed the memo that the PS3 has a lack of support! :)

I've not turned on my 360 since finishing Mass Effect, yet my PS3 gets used just about every day - even the Wii gets played more than the 360 at the moment!

Sony seem to have finally got over the 'arrogance' period it went through a while back - I seriously disliked the company at that point. Now they seem to be stepping up, admitting mistakes and actively trying to fix them.

Also,...
