Halo is about to get milked DRY!

Would Halo Wars be creating any hype if it was just another Sci-Fi RTS on a console?

What's Peter jackson actually up to with the Halo franchise? The guys a great storyteller, but I get the feeling the hype won't match the 'game' (if it is even a game).

Now we have Microsoft working WITH Bungie on yet another mysterious Halo game.

I loved the Halo games, but lets not fool ourselves. The story was cl...

I agree... Disc swapping is no big deal at all. But given the choice of a seamless experience or having my game experience / immersion interrupted with 'please insert disc 5' I know which I'd prefer.

This update does nothing to justify the cost.

I cancelled my Gold account - £40 per year is nothing really, but £40 for something I don't need, and adds no value, I'll pass (and I can't believe I paid for Live since the Xbox1!!). I'll save that money to spend in the pub and use my PS3 for free online gaming thanks!

Shame. With another 12 months of development time and a bit more hype Hellgate might have been a really good game. Just another case of a developer with ambition far outstripping it's capabilities, and launching too soon.

Their business model always seemed doomed to failure regarding subscribers. I bought the game, but had no reason to pay for a sub. The extra features compared to the non-sub version were minimal and I didn't need them. I think they would have had more luc...

Nintendo once again let down the hardcore gamer. As a LONG time Nintendo fan I've lost a lot of faith in the company. Even the casual games they announced were lacklustre. It wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo stopped bothering with E3.

Until the FFXIII announcement I thought the MS conference lacked energy. There were few (no?) new IP's. MS seemed like they were desperate to cover the bases that their competitors have effortlessly taken - It was like 'OK, SingStar is popula...

During the Kotaku webcast they mentioned 'an RTS style command interface' or something similar.

There will definitely be tactics to this, rather than a 256 player melee (althugh I assume this would be possible too). I suspect the maps to be massive with many control points. The side which organises itself best will win.

People are slating this title already. It's forward thinking and trying something different. Even if it fails it should be celebreated that a...

Good post dude. I've been saying similar stuff in my recent posts.

As someone who owns and loves all consoles equally I have to say MS appears to have no strategy beyond buying up titles, developers, and hoping Rare strike gold (one day!)

It's a bit of both.

In a marketplace with only 3 competitors there is bound to be some plagarism going on.

All have innovated at times, all have copied at times.

Of the three I think Microsoft is a little more blatant - but in a competitive industry competitors need to cover each others moves.

I'd prefer if MS shoved more money in to original and innovative IP's - but right now in terms of depth of software they are playing catch up,...

Wow, Sony drop their arrogant stance, and MS step straight in to their shoes!

MS may have a list of games people said they would never get - which is getting smaller.

But Sony have a list of new IP - which is getting longer and longer!

If MS end up buying all the traditionally Sony 3rd party exclusives, what do they actually have? Nothing but parity and a more level playing field!

Final Fantasy XIII is not XBox exclusive. GTA was n...

Regardless of the money that MS must obviously have plonked down - this is still a SquareEnix business decision. A game like FFXIII must be costing a starggering amount to make - so going multi plat in territories that have a high install base makes total sense.

The reason Square went to Sony from Nintendo was because Nintendo were too stubborn. Their pig headed refusal to leave cartridges int he past did not give Square the capacity to make the game it wanted. Coincidentall...

When the 360 launched I thought it was an amazing console with some amazing games. But now I just can't agree with the strategy MS are taking.

I've always been impartial when it comes to consoles. But MS seems to be simply flashing it's wallet around and expecting to 'win' the console war. This is putting me off. I'll always buy Res Evil, Final Fantasy, GTA, Burnout etc games on Playstation - because that's where I feel their home is. MS can buy all the titles it wants - it ...

Wasn't there some story before E3 that MS has some 'amazing but slightly desperate news'?

I guess this could be seen as a little desperate on MS's part. They are throwing so much money at JRPG's, which I can only assume is to break the Japanese market. Surely the ONLY way this can be seen as a success for Microsoft is if the 360 starts to outsell the PS3 in Japan. And what chance does it really have?

And lets not forget that the rest of the E3 presentation was pre...

Well said.

Although the Nintendo to Sony 'betrayal' was down to Nintendo not giving devs the storage space they needed, and Sony giving Square exactly what the wanted in the CD format.

In this case it seems like a backward step... The PS3 has a built in HDD and Blu-Ray - surely things SquareEnix devs would crave when creating a Final Fantasy game.

As you mentioned, this is a business decision and clearly shows that development has become too expensive to...

And how many of those can I play right now on my PS3? How many of the titles on your list will remain exclusive?

The 360 is the current generation leader in JRPG's - and that's something I never would have thought I'd be typing!!

And so ends the age of exclusive 3rd party titles...

Pretty amazing announcement.

I'm just waiting for the PS3 fans to start the 'Have fun swapping 20 discs', 'Blu-Ray FTW', 'FFXIII will be gimped because of the 360'.

SquareEnix have really sided with Microsoft recently, which either means they are desperate to further penetrate the Western market, or more likely that MS has VERY deep pockets.

Considering Sony's recent announcement that they...

And so what if the 360 does outsell the PS3? What does it mean, or matter?

Sony and Microsoft are on now on very different launch schedules with their consoles.

If the 360 lasts 5 years before the 720 launches, the PS3 may have another 12, 24 or more months left to go before the PS4 launch.

Do we compare sales at the end point in each consoles life cycle? Or when Microsoft jump in to yet another new generation?

Whatever, it's utterly point...

Thanks Godhand.

I agree with you that some sort of authentication can help. However this falls under what I was referring to about 'ease of use'. Look at the hassle people had with Half Life 2, and also BioShock. Legit users who have paid money for a game get the hassle, while pirates get a version with no DRM or online activation.

There's no easy way around this unfortunately - although the PS3 is yet to be hacked, but surely it's only a matter of time.

With piracy the legit consumer always loses.

No amount of excuses from hackers/crackers or those who download games/ROM's can justify this.

Any form of anti-piracy measure generally has an impact on price and/or ease of use to the legit users. I'm sure the PS3 could have been a little cheaper if Sony didn't have to worry about people trying to copy games.

As long as anti-piracy measures exist, there will be people trying to crack them, and people w...

Criterion have, with every release of Burnout, pushed something new. It's not always worked, but it shows the company is not afraid to experiment with it's franchise. I suspect Burnout Paradise may be the last we see of Burnout for a few years. hopefully we'll see more content, and hopefully a new IP or sequel to Black.

Where can they go after Paradise? There's so much scope for the game that they could keep building on Paradise and leave Burnout 5 for a few years.

@Reburn

I agree with you. FFVII is an great game, but I think most people now look at it through rose tinted glasses which elevates it to some mythical status. Much of the story was weak or poorly told and the characters were fairly stereotypical even for that time (although the game's ability to create an emotional attachment to the characters has rarely, if ever, been bettered).

However FFVII marked a watershed for RPG's in many ways, so it is fondly remembered, ...
