The great thing about the Playstation brand is that quirky titles like this find a good home, and a loyal fan base.
It's not all about next gen visuals, and I for one, am glad there are companies still making games like this.
Can't wait for Disgaea 3; still playing Afternoon of Darkness.
1. This is a business decision. Sony will have crunched the numbers. The short version being. PS3 = No Profit at the moment. PS2 = Lots of Profit! Cutting support for the PS2 now won't force those people to buy a much higher priced device (PS3), and it could lead to sales for Nintendo or Microsoft who both have a lower priced options.
2. The best time for Sony to start converting PS2 to PS3 owners is when the PS3 is profitable. The PS2 is still selling well, and chances are...
Jeez, what colour crayon did the author use to write that masterpiece?!

3. Final Fantasy 11 beta
Huh!?
Web browsing on a console is an OK feature. Nice to have, but in no way a unique selling point, and I could live with out it on the PS3 and Wii.
The chances that MS have lost a single sale to Sony or Nintendo because of the lack of a browser are pratcically nil.
I agree with you that the PS3 was used as nothing but a trojan horse to get Blu-Ray in homes, and to make gamers pay the R&D for the Cell.
This was a pretty dispicable move on their part to take advantage of early adopters and their strong market position.
But no one was forcing you to pay $600. I held off buying a PS3 until it felt like a value for money purchase and there were a load of decent games to play.
Huge profit??? At least keep the comments in the realm of realism! MS has been making a profit in the last few quarters, but it's not anywhere near huge!
It's going to take them a long time to wipe out the 5billion+ they went in the red since announcing the XBox brand.
One thing Sony has done really well is keep the PS2 alive. When you're shelling out for R&D and launching a new console it's nice to know the obvious hole that's going to burn in the finance...
I don't think Sony will see themselves as the loser this gen - it's a totally different market from any before it.
Sony have already ticked off a couple of objectives (winning the next-gen DVD format war, and getting cost of the Cell down and yields up), which were equally important to them as 'winning' the console war.
What many people fail to realise is that there is no strict delineation between 'last gen' and 'next gen' beyond the age of hardware and fanboy f...
@Leon
Or you can buy an overpriced proprietry hard drive to increase disc space...
Oops, wrong console :)
It really is easy to upgrade the hard drive in a PS3. I stuck in a 250GB no trouble. If you're in the UK I'd be happy to send you the old 60GB I took out if you want it (if I can find it!!) - PM me.
OMFG!!! 5 HOUR 24 MINUTE install for Bioshock!!! Teh PS3 id doomed! /sarcasm
How can anyone surmise that BioShock will have a 24 minute install when the file states 00:05:24:00. Even someone of limited comprehension (but apparently not the author) should be able to work out that 00:05:24:00 does not equal 24 minutes no matter how you slice the numbers!
N4G really needs to sort out the approvals process. It's getting to be a joke!
Also, the origi...
The only people bothered about the front USB ports are those who hate having wires hanging from the front of the console.
<hides head in shame, and wishes for a solitary USB port on back of my PS3> :)
How this would be a deal breaker is beyond me though. People really are grasping at straws when they try and argue that 2 front USB ports are going to stop people buying a PS3 and PlayTV!
My 60GB PS3 has 4 USB ports, my 360 only has 3!! My good...
Why the heck wouldn't Ninty throw this in to their presentation! It's a fantastic IP that appeals to both hardcore and casual gamers!
After their poor performance the other night I was about ready to stick the Wii in the cupboard with the rest of my old consoles - but Pikmin 3 buys it a stay of execution!!
And I agree with above poster, a decent Star Fox game would be awesome depending on how well the Wiimote is utilised. With the new accuracy add-on I would ima...
@Shikwan
I think you're right that there's not been one 'killer app' to justify a PS3 purchase - but then again, it depends what you are expecting.
If it's graphics to blow CGI out the water, you'll be waiting a long time. To some MGS4 is that killer app. Others are still waiting.
In the last few months the PS3 has been steadily releasing little nuggets of gaming fun which to me have easily justified the cost (although I waited for the 60GB fire sale a...
You can find a description of how bubbles work in the FAQ section of N4G Help.
But to summarise... Be a fanboy, add nothing of value to a thread or talk rubbish etc etc and you'll lose bubbles if enough people click '-'.
I have a feeling you may have lost a bubble for constantly stating 'FFVII remake coming to PS3' shortly after the MS E3 announcement on FFXIII! One sentence statements, especially in ALL CAPS are generally frowned upon. :)
Despite the fa...
The article (if the figures are true) is quite interesting.
Just because MS has all these JRPG's doesn't mean that people will buy them!
Lost Odyssey is arguably the biggest JRPG launched on 360 (so far), and has only done 740,000 world wide (not insignificant, but not mind blowing by any means).
50% of Final Fantasy XII sales were in Japan.
So what does MS hope to achieve by securing all these JRPG exclusives?
Is the ...
Just shows how quickly we forget about these petty battles eh!?
At the time it was huge news every time someone defected to Blu-Ray - now I don't even remember or care!
If the FFXIII was a shock to Sony, they had very little time to react. So cutting all mention of SquareEnix from their presentation (instead of rewriting or editing it) would make sense.
It was a bit surprising to not show any sort of RPG's though. Perhaps they thought the FFXIII announcement was so big that it would have made any Sony JRPG coverage look second best?
I would have thought a little nod to the fans with something like Disgaea 3 would have been nic...
Dun dun dah! News flash... Service not available in regions/countries it hasn't been announced for yet! Wow, shocking news!
I thought it was obvious this was US only at the moment. Sony mentioned end of year for Europe didn't they?
There's a million hoops Sony will need ot jump through to get this in to every region because of copyright and various other local issues. It was the same for Microsoft when they launched their service.
I agree with their summary. Sony just edged it from MS because of the range and depth of titles. They didn't have a megatonne announcement anything like MS's FFXIII bomb, but they didn't need it (even though it would have been sweet if they'd have had some huge news).
I can't wait to play Fable 2, and Gears 2 should be a blast if they address the niggles from the first game. After that I suspect my 360 will start to gather dust again.
Sony is bringing a lot mo...
Good job we won't have to pay for HOME then isn't it?
Yes it should be free.
I cancelled my Gold account because paying MS for a P2P network gaming is crazy. There's nothing else in the LIVE experience that warrants payment. Throw in microtransactions (Theme's, GamerPics), and bombarding us with advertising and MS are laughing in the face of every Gold subscriber.
I really hope Sony do not go down this path. With a captive market it would be tempting for them to do this I'm sure.
