It's a proven that games get graphically better over the life of a console. Why we need an article telling us this, I dunno.

When Gears 1 launched Epic said they had maxed out the 360, now they are saying it again. In a few years time (if MS don't can the 360 early) I'm sure Epic will be saying it yet AGAIN.

Of course a developer will say they have maxed out a console... It makes it sound like the game they are about to launch is that much more uber!

I don't expect a 'core' franchise game to release every month... but so far we've had the Mario game, we've had the Kart game, we've had the Metroid game, the Zelda game, the Smash Bros game...

All lacklustre. How many chances do they want. Nintendo's core games are not what they were. You may have your opinion, but this is mine. I am disillusioned with Nintendo.

I have no issues with Wii Fit or Wii Music or anything else Nintendo has to do to carve out more pro...

Galaxy = Shouldn't be mentioned in same sentence as Mario 64 or Super Mario Bros 3
Twilight = Not as good as Ocarina or Majora's
Brawl = Not an improvement on Melee
No More Heroes = Niche and OK, not AAA
Paper Mario = Not as good as previous incarnations
Zak & Wiki = Fantastic and original
Metroid 3 = Meh! Seen it all before, twice...
Okami = PS2 port, Wiimote did not work as well as a Dualshock controller!!

So out of those g...

What are people talking about??? There's absolutely tonnes of games out for the Wii. (Unfortunately it's 99% shovelware and rubbish.)

The lustre has faded from the once great Nintendo development houses, and 3rd party support seems focused on high volume low quality.

As long as Nintendo can launch the occassional 'WiiFit', 'Wii Sports', 'Wii will take your money', they will continue to sell well to the masses.

Is the Wii good for the industry? Pr...

Yes, and Linux too. But probably not in Tuesday Beta release.

This is an interesting development. I thought Google was well in bed with Mozilla. Perhaps we'll see Firefox make way for Chrome.

I'll be giving Chrome a try, but unless it is compatible with all the fantastic add-ons I use with FF3 it'll be tough to convince me to switch.

Everything seems to be hinting at some sort of OS launch by Google. Android. Employment of ex-Windows developers. Good relationships with OpenSource community. Google Gears and Docs. I do...

PS2 has been superb. Certainly filled every imaginable genre from AAA to niche. But every console has it's gems. In 10 years you would hope the PS2 would have an amazing line up!

Any platform with Team Ico games is always going to be a strong contender!!

For it's time in the marketplace the 360 has done extremely well though.

And that's the great thing about gaming Skadoosh. So much choice regardless of which platform you love! :)

The line up on the 360 (to date) has been phenomenal - one of the strongest of all time. But I think the PS3 will edge it in the long run. After Gears 2 and Fable 2 on 360 the future looks PS3 to me...

Not that sales matter hugely to us gamers, but even with in those E3 figures there's some discrepancy.

MS have traditionally reported shipped units. Sony claim they only report sold units. There's potentially a significant difference there, but both companies use a certain amount of smoke and mirrors when it comes to sales.

It used to happen a load in a electronics company I worked for. If sales targets needed to be hit, a technique called 'stuffing the channe...

Agreed (mostly!)

I think there's still a bit of life in the ol' 360 yet. Can't see it having a 10 year life, but as long as it gets to 5 years I'll have been a fairly happy 360 owner.

Saying that, my 360 has not been played since Feb this year. PS3 gets a run out almost every day.

Until Fable 2 and Gears 2 launch I have little reason to go back to the 360.

Ignoring the fact that VGChartz can be off with it's figures...

The entire basis for the article is the author's assumption that parents are the one's holding the purse strings and that they won't spend over $199 on a console!

A little research shows that the average gamer age is about 35. And interestingly the 18 years and below segment is the SMALLEST! http://arstechnica...

I thought that one of the big things about Spore was that it would automatically download content in the background. So when you play the RTS portion, you would be playing against creations put together by another player.

I would assume the servers are not exactly packed with user generated content yet (the Creature Creator stuff was only a small part of the overall stuff a user can generate). Plus it would be rather easy for EA to detect who is trying to connect to their ser...

I agree that Gears 2 will be huge. But I don't see it causing a massive sales spike on the hardware.

The 360 sales have hit the wall. The people really hyped about Gears 2 will be those that have played Gears 1.

I see huge sales for the game (obviously), but nothing more than a short term moderate increase on the hardware front.

Sony seem to be going for a more varied line up of releases. LBP, Resistance 2 and so on - as individual IP's they can't com...

Maybe in the magical land you live in everything is free, nothing costs extra to manufacture, no tough business decisions have to be made and everything is perfect.

Sure I'd like a longer lasting battery - but in the real world companies do stuff like research to find out the average time people spend playing on the handheld and use a battery that best fits.

In the real world compromises have to be made - if Sony were targetting weight reduction or hitting a sp...

@marinelife

I think the point people are missing when it comes to the PS4 (and this is speculation on my part) is that Sony have already done the hard work.

They have the Cell. The Cell works very well in parallel - it scales really well. It could be produced at higher speed than the current 3.2GHz. As they sell more Cellproducts the price will come down.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out that PS4 = multiple Cell's.

Just because we are in this so called HD gaming era, doesn't mean every game HAS to be HD.

I would love a Disgaea game in HD, but it's not essential to the series at all - Plus moving everything to HD would obviously mean a longer development time (or features cut) and a higher price point.

Disgaea is the perfect SRPG and anyone who passes on this game because of the visuals is very foolish.

Europe release is supposedly Q1 2009; but there's plenty ...

With no Euro release date announced yet I'm importing this one.

Still playing Afternoon of Darkness on my PSP - THE perfect portable game in my opinion and the single best reason to own a PSP.

I'm looking forward to the new characters, but I'll miss Laharl, Etna and the rest of that goofy bunch! :)

SkyGamer - the actual like-for-like comparison of a Cell vs Nehalem mean very little, it's the architecture and function of the chips that makes the difference.

The Cell is pretty specialised, whereas the Nehalem is a general purpose CPU.

The Cell beats a general purpose CPU in specific tasks, such as the calculations required for Folding at Home (and many scientific data tasks), vector processing, decoding/encoding media - but a general purpose CPU is good at a lot ...

I'm looking at 26"/27" mainly for space reasons. It's going to live on a desk in a smallish room and be viewed from a few feet - so anything bigger is just a bit too big! :)

I've been looking at the Dell 2709W (which reviews suggest has a bit of input lag) and doing plenty of research, but thought I'd ask for any hands-on opinions.
