It's an interesting point.
Take something like BioShock - the lack of a meaningful death severley diluted the experience for me. The menace of a Big Daddy meant nothing when I knew that even using a wrench I could eventually take one down with nothing more than time wasted on my part.
There was no in-game consequence, but I can't really see how a checkpoint or Game Over death system would have improved (or detracted) from the game - so I guess the respawn was t...
Well, as a Brit I can only say I am hugely proud of the developers in this country - but any national bias shown in reviews is out of order.
The problem is that for the hardcore gamers we know that LBP (or whatever game) is good/bad and we can laugh at the fanboys who go out of their way to do something like this.
But as gaming opens up to more people they will want unbiased information so they can make informed buying decisions.
There are few (if any) resources that are not baised in some way (and to an extent that's natural as we're only human)! But more and more we're seeing 'professional' reviews ...
Sometimes Edge reviews are confusing... As a long time Edge mag subscriber I always thought they reviewed games pretty well, but the final scores were harsh at times.
Then came 10/10 for Mario Galaxy and Halo 3. In fact I think Halo 3 got their GOTY award. At that point I thought the mag had gone insane!!
I was in the beta test of LBP, and can say it is definitely a 9/10, but I'm not sure I could justify a 10/10. There is a slight issue with the controls - e...
@ Nai
I think it's a myth that people think it's a myth that the 360 doesn't RRoD, because I don't know anyone, and none of my friends know anyone, who think it's a myth that the 360 RRoD's! :)
Excellent! I can officialy bring my 360 out of retirement. I have not switched it on since Feb.
I've really had my fingers crossed for Fable 2. Fable 1 was disappointing - it was a solid game, but not half as good as it could have been, so I've been waiting with baited breath for Fable 2 to really deliver.
I was sceptical of the Eurogamer 10/10 as they seem very pro-360 (10/10 for Halo 3 - whatever!!), but backed up by an IGN 9.5 it all looks good.
There's nothing about MGS4 that couldn't be done on the 360. I've played the game through twice, and from textures, enemies on screen, AI, physics, there's nothing.
My feeling is that the only reason MGS4 (supposedly) takes up 50GB is because of uncompressed textures / audio and possibly redundant info (like Oblivion PS3) to aid in streaming and seek times.
Sure it would have to come on multiple discs for the 360 version - but I don't see how disc swapping is an...
Don't bother with this demo!!!
Just buy the full game.
It costs almost nothing and REALLY should be a GOTY contender.
Bubble Sol Invictus for actually doing some research instead of the usual N4G knee jerk reaction.
If people were really that interested in D3 they would already know about this new system - but instead they prefer to whine, as noted in numerous posts below...
I'm taking the wait and see approach.
Until we know release dates and pricing I'm not going to judge.
Blizz is a company that makes quality games, in fact not just quality games, but genre defining world class games. Diablo is still seen as genre defining, every release in the genre is still compared to Diablo.
Every MMO is compared to WoW, and the number of subscribers speaks for itself.
Starcraft is practically a national sport in...
I kinda like this idea. It possibly has some pitfalls though.
For example if you take what has been said recently some developers have commented that PC graphics are topping out. If we assume that in one or two generations of console then graphics will also top out then devs will start (as they already are) using the processing power for other things... Physics, AI and so on.
To make the Xbox 3 forward compatible with the Xbox 4 software could create a problem....
I'm sure you could find many more of these anomalies, but in general your example is the exception, not the rule.
The situation is actually a lot worse when you look at older titles recently put on Blu-Ray. The price difference is even bigger.
This is just a personal opinion on why I'm not interested in Blu-Ray. One example isn't going to change that - I don't think the increase in picture quality justifies the higher price - we're not paying by the pixel!!
<...
Yes, but of course, your comment makes everything clear. America make the BEST games. Yup, you nailed it right there....
/sarcasm
The only reason I am not all that interested in Blu-Ray is because of the price per disc.
£16.00 per disc (on average) is too high, compared to half that for DVD.
From reading the review, the quote I found interesting is:
"The only small detail that was left out seems to be trophies for the PS3 fans of the world"
The use of the word 'seems' would imply the reviewer isn't sure whether the Trophies should be in the game or not. I can only assume from this that Volition didn't make it clear in the review copy sent out whether Trophies would be included or not.
No bias here, move along!
First off we have no idea what Blizz will do on pricing - it could work out as fantastic value.
Second, I'm actually excited that the game is so damn huge that it is actually big enough to split in to three games. If one campaign is as big as any other RTS release then I can only wonder at what a massive story they can tell over 3 discs!
Regardless of who is outselling who, who is price gouging for peripherals more than the other and so on... One thing we should all remember is...
...Competition is good.
If MS pounded Sony in to submission - or visa verse, it would be one less player in the market. Considering Nintendo have gone their own way and are not directly competitors for MS and Sony (at the moment) it is a very good thing we have MS in the market place.
It keeps Sony on it...
I agree with you Dark General. And it's my biggest concern about Microsoft's tactics with exclusive DLC.
I'd hate to see developers moving towards intentionally holding back content (which is probably already happening) just seal an exclusive DLC deal.
I kinda see this like any other free market - for example if I want a plumber or a mechanic I will take my business to a reputable one who gives me the best value for money. MS could do the same with developers, ...
I get what you are saying Why o why, but I don't think many people care where a AAA exclusive title comes from.
Would Gears sell better if made by a 1st party company? Would Halo 4 sell less than Halo 3 if it were not made by Bungie?
If MS had no 1st party companies it could essentialy employ the 'best of breed' 3rd parties to make the games it wants. And it has no issue about talent leaving.
If MS could invest directly in the development of it's...
I dunno about anyone else, but I couldn't help thinking of Bullet Witch every time I saw the trailer for this game.
