If MS were smart they would offload all their 1st party studios.
This may sound crazy, but hear me out...
Owning IP is cheaper than owning a studio (as JOY mentioned).
Plus, talent moves around, IP's don't. Rare are still a talented bunch, but do they have the same level of talented personnel they had in the N64 era?
MS would be smarter cultivating a lot more 2nd and 3rd party relationships. Creating new IP, or buying exisitng IP. ...
I don't think the issue here is people complaining about MS bringing content to the masses, it's about how they are going about it.
For me the GTAIV DLC on 360 was not an incentive to buy the 360 version - and I would argue that 50million could have been and SHOULD have been invested in new IP or a sequel not wasted on DLC for GTAIV.
As I said in a previous post - Apparently Gears cost 10million to make. So by that rationale MS could have invested that 50mill in...
Fantastic comment Tacki. I completely agree.
I don't think the issue is that the demo is bundled with Quore. The issue is because one region is being asked to buy Quore if they want to play the dmeo, and another region gets it for nothing.
Or in other words 'Waa Waa Waa, that's not fair', <stamps feet and tells Mommy>!!
First off, no one is being made to do anything here. You either buy Quore or you don't. No one is making you pay for a demo.
It is just tough luck that they decided to bundle the Valkyria Chronicles demo with Quore.
Just because Europe is getting it for 'free' means nothing. We don't have Quore, so what are Sony going to do? Not release the demo in Europe at all, just to stop a minority of people whining about having to pay for something in the US?

Personally I'm cautious about KZ2. GG have never produced a decent game, so it'll take more than graphics to convince me to buy.
Now, before the Sony fanboys hit Disgaree :) I would add...
The Edge article is rubbish (and I'm a subscriber!)
To suggest the 'flamboyance' of Halo's neon and generic environments are a good thing is crazy. I can not describe how happy I am that KZ2 is not copying the art direction from Halo.
Is the prev...
How the hell does this get approved!?
A barely literate forum post, from a user who appears to not grasp the concept of paying for goods and services!
Ah well MS. Ya gave it your best shot. Props for trying.
Hope Sony have something more to offer.
I subscribe to Edge, but sometimes their reviews are insane!
Halo 3 10/10? Mario Galaxy 10/10? WTF!!!
I can't see how Edge could give LBP less than 9/10, but it would be no surprise if it gave an 8.
I agree that choice is always good... but ask yourself this one simple question...
Would you rather have a stack of original fresh IP's, innovation, and quality products (such as LBP), or a load of DLC, 'me-too' games (like Scene It and Lips) and multi-platform titles?
I know I'm willing to trade up some GTA or Tomb Raider DLC for LBP, Killzone 2 and the many other franchises that Sony is investing their money in.
Y'know what, I'm getting tired of MS investing in pointless rubbish.
I said it in a post yesterday, but what is MS actually gaining from blowing 50mill on GTAIV DLC? Does it REALLY think it's going to shift more 360's because they have DLC for Tomb Raider?
50mill, plus the money they've paid for Fallout and Tomb Raider DLC could easily have funded a AAA title. Hell, if the original Gears of War was put together for 10million they could have invested in at least...
As an old miserable git of a gamer I've never said this before about a game... But LBP is actually living up to the hype.
I predict AoC will be canned for 360.
Do the math. If it launches in late 2009 or more likely early 2010, that'll be getting uncomfortably close to the end of the 360's life.
MMO's thrive on sucking players for the long term, to wring every last penny out of them! We're talking getting players to pay monthly for years - if the 360 is going to be old news around 12-18months after AoC's 360 launch it just won't be appealing to most people interested in MMO's.

I don't think it's quite the same thing. The two examples you give don't hold much weight in this debate.
BioShock has been out so long that the devs have had time to create other content - it was the same for Oblivion's graphics update. Plus, BioShock is off most 360 gamers radar now - so why would the devs/publisher invest in porting the PS3 exclusive conttent to the 360? It probably wouldn't make that much money for them.
UT3 IS superior on the PS3, and f...
People are obviously impressed by the perceived value of the product.
It doesn't matter that it's only a handful of tracks. The production values and quality of the game make it feel like it's worth more.
The price point for me was the icing on the cake; it's exceptional value. No one is saying they want it raised - it's obvious this is a budget title, but the price point is below budget and in to bargain territory.
There isn't a single negative ...
As an owner of Wii, 360 and PS3 I have to say the PS Store makes the other services look mediocre at best.
Sony have a great range of titles that no other service is offering. Big titles that could easily sell at full price (WipEout HD). Budget titles with unheard of production values for digital distro (Ratchet and Clank, GT Concept). Episodic gaming with Siren. Unique titles like FlOw and Eden, plus a whole bag of really solid games(SuperStardust HD is still one of my fave...
Personally I don't see exclusive DLC as anything to brag about.
In most cases I despise the idea that developers are announcing DLC before a game even ships.
Instead of feeling like DLC is adding value I feel that devs are holding back features to charge us for later. That's not value, that's a rip off (GTAIV DLC is the exception here if it turns out to be a massive add-on).
MS have created a market where it's almost in the interest of the dev...
@ Diamondwolf
You're probably right about FF9 actually. I should give it another play through at some point. It just doesn't stick in the memory, and all I recall it for is a bit of a slog towards the end.
FFX was a blast, but I found it a bit 'twee' for want of a better word. It seemed to be desperately trying to tap in to the feel of FF7.
I just couldn't keep playing FFXII - it's the only FF I've never bothered completing. I just couldn't fac...
SquareEnix make epic games which cost a boatload of money. Going multiplat is not a betryal of Playstation fans, it's good business sense.
They must be laughing all the way to the bank when MS hands over a few million to make a game multi-platform.
Sony have dropped the ball and the PS3 is unfortunately pretty barren for decent JRPG's. They need to change things round, and quickly.
Sony need to cultivate some good 2nd party relationships with Lev...
JOY, some of your past comments I couldn't agree with, but at least they were (generally!) well reasoned and could never be categorised as rabid fan boy! :)
Bubble up as your point of view in this topic is interesting.
