Was the PS2 disc read problem mainly in the US?

No one I know who owned a PS2 ever had the problem in the UK (and that was a lot of people). I still have a working original PS2.

I'm not saying the PS2 didn't have problems, and a rubbish warranty - but the difference between the PS2's issues, and a 30%+ failure rate on the 360's is pretty huge.

The people who bring up the PS2 issues every time RRoD is mentioned are just pathetic. PS2 is almost 10years o...

This is a bit of a lame ol' duck of an article.

It IS almost unforgivable that MS would knowingly release such poor hardware and try and cover it up for so long - but it's history.

The 1billion warranty, the Jasper board. Old news.

I own a 360, and I'm on my 3rd because of RRoD. Am I unhappy about that? Yes. But MS have tried to address the issue, and every time my 360 has gone wrong it's been a simple job to get repaired for free.

This...

In general games are a helluva lot easier now.

There's plenty of old 8-bit titles I never completed and could have gouged my eyes out and chopped off my thumbs as they were so bloody frustrating.

Well I don't agree with their summation at all. PSN had the stronger line up in my opinion.

And I can back this up with hard facts....

Number of titles I bought on XBL = 0
Number of titles I bought on PSN = Lots
Number of titles I bought on WiiWare/VC = 2 or 3

The article was a bit rubbish really. They discount titles like Quest for Booty, Siren and Burnout because of some arbitrary rule that only really effects the PS3 and Wii. Not exac...

At some point Wii sales will have to drop off - if only because there's no one left to buy one!!

Even if Wii sales halved I still wouldn't say the bubble has burst. Nintendo would still be outselling the competition easily.

The lack of third party games helped kill the GameCube, but that was when Nintendo was a straight competitor to Sony/MS. The Wii is different. Nintendo are surviving (again) on their 1st party titles. People are clamouring for Wii Fit etc a...

I can't see it being a (major) system seller.

Sony would need to market the hell out of Home for it to gain any sort of visibility to the non-PS3 owning world. And considering how poorly they've marketed their AAA titles this year, I can't see that happening.

Home needs an identity, as at the moment I don't really think many people (possibly even Sony) know what it is or what it does, or what it will grow in to.

Ask 10 people what Home is, and the...

It's a bit of a shame that the gaming industry seems to be moving toward a few big blockbusters every year.

People who think they know about gaming are to quick to dismiss games that are not hyped, or don't have a big marketing budget attached.

Over the years lots of titles have been passed by. You only need look at how every gamer now claims Psychonauts is the best thing since sliced bread - yet who actually bought it? (Well, I did!)

Not every ga...

The last half decent NFS I played was Most Wanted, which I actually really enjoyed, although even then the series had lost a little compared to the mid 90's.

It's probably time EA put the franchise on the back burner for a while. I think the devs are just exhausted trying to make the series seem different and fresh every year.

There's only so much that can be done with a racing franchise before all the good ideas have been done and dusted. Plus there's only so ...

That's the funniest article I've read for a while.

It omits so many facts for the convenience of the 360.

360 games are less than 10GB? Tell that to Blue Dragon, FFXIII and all the other multi-disc 360 games!!

Surely the author can not be making out it's a BAD thing to fill up a Blu-Ray!

Am I going to be happier that a dev has used every byte of space on a Blu-Ray to pack it with content, or am I going to be happier they kept the game sma...

Cool. Some amazing stuff being done in LBP.

6394d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

LBP was not over-hyped. Sony never said they were pinning any PS3 sales on this new IP.

Only PS3 fanboys talked about LBP as a system seller - and to be honest I think I saw more 360 fanboys claiming PS3 fanboys were claiming it would be a system seller!! :)

The only negative I would say about LBP's launch was that (in the UK) the marketing campaign was one of the worst things I have ever seen. It was impossible to work out what the game was about.

Slightly off-topic:

What I find strange is that everyone is jumping on the PS3 sales figures, but no one is questioning the 360's numbers.

The 360 is now the cheapest console on the market, and yet the Wii beats it by over 1million units.

Also, even though the 360 is so cheap and has a better games library than a year ago, it only sold 66,000 units more in Nov 08 compared to Nov 07.

When you consider MS is spending far more on advert...

My comment stands Firstkn1ght...

People are tightening their belts... So the most expensive console sold the least.

Despite a significant price drop, and being the lowest priced console on the market, the 360 ONLY sold 66,000 more units than they did in Nov 2007.

Sony are not going to cut the price to shift more units just becuase MS and Nintendo are selling more.

Sony have stated for ages that they are looking for profitability from the PS3. Selling 400k is OK for them.

Is it bad compared to the 360 and Wii... Sure it is. But if anyone thinks Sony cares they are deluded.

When this generation closes off, the only thing that will matter is that each company has made enough money to make it viable to produ...

I just went to the TIME site and the actual quote is slightly different. I dunno if they have changed it since the gamerzine piece but it now reads...

I don't consider this site biased - I consider it packed full of entertaining craziness.

I see as many deluded, irrational, illogical and probably borderline insane fanboys on both the MS and Sony sides.

It's funny how many people on this site seem to take inanimate objects (only slightly removed from toys), so seriously - as if it's life or death.

It's even funnier than those people who seem to get extremely worked up claiming the site is biased o...
