Sorry Bladestar, I didn't realise my gaming enjoyment was dictated by total sales numbers.

Thanks for straightening that out for me!

Perhaps reviewers should stop giving games scores and instead just list sales figures as the measure of quality!

I really thought I preferred Fallout 3 to Fable 2, but I think I need to go and check the sales figures so I know which one was really the best!

Sony are currently selling roughly the same number of units as the much lower priced 360.

Because of this fact Sony have much more room to maneouver when it comes to price cuts. Selling at their current rate, there is no need for a price cut until after the holidays.

Despite what Sony are saying about 'No price cut in March 09'. I would suspect we will see a price cut by June '09 at the latest. Sony have already stated that the PS3 should be in the black by Q2...

#1 GTAIV
Not only over-hyped, but extremely over-rated

I love it, but not half as good as the hype promised

Halo killer hype - half assed game play

One of my favourite games of the year - but once again Molyneux over promises and under-delivers

With all due respect Firstkn1ght, you are talking tosh!

Both Sony and MS have poured money in to their hardware divisions - and if we're talking losses then a big fat 5billion dollar hole in MS's bank account must sting a bit.

Sony have stated they are going to be profitable with the PS3 during 2009.

It's also strange that you claim softweare sales are a joke, when a few publishers have recently gone on record that PS3 sales are healthy.

Who'd have thought that another MGS game would help the PS3 when MGS4 sold so well - thanks IGN for clarifying! And who would have thought that SquareEnix releasing Final Fantasy games would help shift some PS3's!! IGN you ARE on the money!! /sarcasm

The PS3 needs no saving. It's gathering momentum right now.

The only thing Sony have done wrong is neglect the JRPG genre, every other genre is well catered for.

If Sony launched a couple of JRPG'...

I'm pretty sure we're going to see motion/head tracking in some form long before the PS4 launches.

The Playstation Camera could easily be used for this. Sony have already stated that for gesture based apps it's better than the Wiimote.

Y'know what. As a gamer, and someone who owns both consoles 2008 HAS been the year of PS3 for me.

I've bought more games for my PS3 than 360, I've spent more time playing games on my PS3 than 360... So yep, 2008 was year of PS3.

I don't care about sales figures. They are meaningless to me and no indicator of which is the better product. The Wii is trouncing both PS3 and 360 - and I own one of those as well - and it hasn't been switched on for a very long time....

I'm not sure that MS would launch another Xbox in 2010 - but I think it could be an option if they start to get hammered by the PS3 sales numbers.

I don't think the Next Xbox will launch any later than Nov 2011, but this time they won't kill the 360 in the same way they killed the original Xbox. So hopefully the 360 will see a longer life than it's poor big brother!

@Fire23... Look at how well MS have done with the 360 off the back of a very weak launch line-up....

Well as an owner of a 360 and PS3, I have to say the opposite.

The PS3 is the machine I am playing on the most. My 360 was gathering dust all year until Fable 2 came out (and I'll pick up Gears 2 soon), but even with Fable 2 I have still been playing on my PS3 more (LBP is GotY to me).

Having both consoles allows me to judge the relative quality of multi-plat games and I can say that despite the rampant fanboy BS and comparative videos, the differences (now) in ...

I don't think there's really troubled times for the 360.

MS are in a no-lose situation.

- If the 360 keeps selling during 09, they can keep supporting it.

- If the PS3 closes the gap in sales, MS will have the option of creating hype for the Next Xbox during 09 and launching it in 2010. This allows them to claim a 'victory' over the Sony, even if it is a bit hollow; and allows them to generate momentum with a new product.

MS have al...

I would say that the PS4 WILL definitely have a Blu-Ray drive.

Sony are positioning the PS3 as more than a games console - that fact alone means the PS4 will need a Blu-Ray player to avoid confusing consumers. Many people will be using the PS3 as their primary Blu-Ray playback device - Sony will need to continue this trend in to the PS4 era.

Network speeds and hard drive capacities still have a long way to go before we can ditch optical.

I hope we see Crackdown 2, but I thought MS had already poured cold water on the chances of a sequel (for now).

Crackdown is my favourite sandbox game - far better than GTAIV in my humble opinion.

I'm really hoping inFamous also delivers.

Their list appears to be only publisher confirmed 2009 releases.

A lot of the titles you list are not confirmed for 2009 (yet), and some of them are not going to hit until 2010. It would be a safe bet that Mass Effect 2 will launch in 09, but we've heard almost zero about the game since the original launched.

Plus it's a top 10 list - Some stuff has to be cut if the website wants to stick to a stupid 'top 10' format. There may be massive hardcore anticipation fo...

Yeah, I've got half an eye on Borderlands as well. Looks intruiging and I'm thinking 'sleeper hit' maybe.

6398d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

For a list of confirmed 2009 releases it's fairly underwhelming. I can understand not including Alan Wake (all we know is that it looks good), and games like Huxley (delayed so many times I wouldn't guarantee a 2009 launch).

Fingers crossed MS has a few tricks up it's sleeve. Most of those multi-plats I'll be buying on PS3, and the exclusives don't interest me (I'm seriously done with Halo).

It looks like '09 may be a fairly good year for games - but the PS3's ...

To be honest I don't think we can draw a lot of conclusions from this...

Yes, the PS3 has headroom - but every console ever made had the best looking games towards the end of the product life cycle. Epic said they maxed out the 360 with the original Gears, and yet Gears 2 looks better and future titles (on every console) will continue to look better.

In-house and Sony provided tools evolve, developer experience increases and so on. There's no magic trick to sud...

I think we may have a winner!

Seems logical to me... but then again, since when have Kojima games been logical!! :)

EDIT: Although on reflection I wonder where the 'MGST' fits in with the Ac!d theory? Perhaps it's Metal Gear Solid Tactics.

Strong words pal!

But I can see where you are coming from. MGS4 was (in my opinion) a fantastic game when taken on it's own... But not a great entry in the Metal Gear series.

For me the pinnacle was MGS on the original Playstation, and it's remake on Gamecube. Nothing has touched the amazing characters and story of that game. Every moment was interesting and surprising - there had never been a game like it before.

6401d ago 1 agree1 disagreeView comment

After the time and money put in to MGS4 I would think Konami and Kojima wouldn't mind making some fast bucks, so I'm thinking a retro package of Metal Gear titles on the Wii VC, PSN or XBLA (maybe all).

If it is a cryptic sign that MGS4 is coming to the 360 - big deal! MGS4 is a fantastic game and deserves to be played by all. These are tough times and Konami are a business, so all the crying over 'traitors', 'Kojima would never do that so the Sony faithful' is BS. Profit is...

Really good points solidjun5, and I agree totally.

Luckily I've always managed to avoid the hype - even Halo 3. I'd seen exactly one trailer and a couple screenshots before loading that game up - nothing more.

I guess I just have a cautious approach to every game I'm potentially going to spend money on!!

You're exactly right about Silicon Knights. I know Too Human had a turbulent development period, but after Eternal Darkness (also one of my all t...
