That's a funny article!
Seriously; I wonder how Greenberg said that with a straight face.
Let's just hope both MS and Sony can produce a console that can reliably push 1080p natively in every game at 60fps...
1080p is going to be around for a long time - why bother making devs put the effort in to creating games that either run at huge res, or have to scale acceptibly to massive res.
Games are already taking massive amounts of money to produce. And every time they launch a new console the price goes up, and the time/effort/man power required goes up...
The Mods needs to crack down on this site, and anyone found giving away game endings needs a ban or thrown to the Open Zone.
Ruining the ending for people is NOT acceptible.
That's Fable 2 and Resistance 2 I've seen spoiled by this site, luckily I missed the spoiler for Gears 2.
On topic... Fable 2 is one of my favourite games of 2008 and I'm currently on my second play through, but no way is it GoTY.
This is why I like the PS3 - it's the games and experiences which don't easily fall under a genre.
I consider it more of an adventure game, or interactive movie. The old adventure games required no 'gaming skill' in the twitch sense, but did require a bit of thought.
If you want a good idea of what it'll be like I would urge you to hunt down a copy of Indigo Prophecy (known as Fahrenheit in UK) or have a read of this - it's by the same developer...
For those people who have a large number of online friends it may be cool. But I still can't really see the appeal.
As a social tool, it's kinda neat but I can't see myself using it for anything other than 'events'. For example if Sony stream their E3 events through Home then I'd use it.
For chatting with friends I'd rather do ...
Unfortunately even in the closed beta there were idiots... :(
@4.3 Mart
Vaporware is something that is announced but never launches. Home is out tomorrow... So, not vaporware.
Lacking features is not the same as vaporware - and what are these 'more options' you talk about anyway?
I suppose MS will always make sure Avatar clothing is free eh?
So you agree with 2 of the 5 I listed, and yet my argument is a fail! Ok!
Fenrix is probably the most interesting character out of the ones I listed for 360 - but he's pretty wooden.
I don't think Drakes 1 dimensional at all. He's an 'everman' with an interesting back story and history. He may be cheesy but his motives and background make him interesting and are a great hook in to the Uncharted story.
Fenrix is just an Unreal Tournament character...
Off topic: Yeah, and when Vodafone paid that for Mannesmann the knock on effect was a re-stating of price and the biggest ever loss reported in UK corporate history! :)
On topic: I think EA are going to do OK. They are a bit bloated, and could probably do with pruning a bit of middle management, but they've identified that new IP is important for their image - even if it's not really contributing to the profitability (but then again what new IP has done seriously well in 2008?...
You make an interesting point there arngrim. Have a bubble.
The PS3 definitely has the more emotive characters - which helps tell more interesting stories (irrespective of actual game quality).
Master Chief, Fenrix, Fable 2's hero.... All very emotionless or one dimensional characters.
Compared to Drake, Snake, Sack Boy, Kratos, Nariko... all characters with either more depth, emotion or, well, character!
Yeah, cus LBP, MGS4, Ratchet and Clank, Resistance 2 and so on run MUCH better on 360!
Care to name the console and PC games you had credits in?
Just wondering if I've ever played one of the masterpieces you've been involved in.
I thought it was only the 'yoof of today' that were barely literate.
The PS3 is a fine machine. Sure the SIXAXIS has terrible triggers, but your other points are pretty weak. Broken online? Nah. LBP IS a good game, in fact it's amazing.
Spend a few years on this site and you'll see the ebb-and-flow of the 'console wars'.
PS3 was getting slammed back in 05 and 06 on this site.
People see what they want to see as well. Recently there's been a deluge of the 'Can the PS3 be saved' etc etc type of stories. And usually for every negative story about Console X, there will be an almost immediate reposte from the other camp.
:)
Well, you have your opionion and I have mine.
I don't find NXE any faster to navigate than Blades, I respect your opinion, but I totally disagree with it.
Netflix is neither here nor there as it could easily have been patched in to Blades.
Same thing with Hard Drive install. An excellent feature, but not one reliant on NXE for functionality.
After the intial swipe at LBP I was less than impressed with the article.
Games that have yet to be released shooting themselves in the foot???
No More Heroes shooting itself in the foot? What?
I just didn't get some of their logic. SSF HD is going to release at a budget price - those gamers who have not played Street Fighter, or may just want a taster of a classic game may buy it on impulse. If they like it they may 'graduate' to SFIV. Doesn...
Pretty weak list in my opinion. One or two I kinda agreed with.
Overall I didn't find the NXE to be anything special. I just want a simple OS that allows me to quickly launch games, and has a clear and easy to navigate marketplace.
All the rest is fluff I could do with out. I haven't found NXE any faster or better than Blades.
This isn't bias by the shops - it's marketing money speaking. GAME (and others) are basically selling space in their shops for advertising.
MS are simply spending more on marketing and advertising. If Sony stepped up their marketing spend we might see Resistance 2 and LBP ads in prominent places.
Anyone who actually owns a PS3 knows this to be untrue.
In my opinion the first year of any console is generally dry. The PS3 had a very strong launch line-up though.
I don't think the problem was ever with the number of games - the problem was with the number of promises Sony made.
When they show Killzone 2 stuff in 2005, and we are still waiting for the game it gives the perception that something is missing.
I have to agree with you.
Unboxing my 360 was cool.
Unboxing my PS3 was just 'whoa, this thing is solid'!
The difference in build quality is huge. The 360 feels pretty cheap in comparison (regardless of RRoD issues - of which I've had 2).
It'll be great to see people on N4G dragging up Greenburg's comments when MS introduces a 3D Avatar lobby system!
Not only is N4G a great place to watch fanboys implode with illogical and irrational rage and hostility - but we also get the occassional fanboy rants from Corporate Exec's!
