What makes a mockery of the Edge review is that defining something as 'innovative' is such a cop out.

If Edge didn't like the game then they should have the balls to say why - not hide behind the catch-all statement of 'it lacks innovation'.

As many have said 8 player Co-Op, and 60 player multiplayer could be argued as something not done before in any game - is that innovation? Is it just a kick-ass new feature? In the end it doesn't matter as long as it works, and...

The issue here is that the ONLY reason I want to use the hard drive rip option is because I have a huge issue with the noise the 360 makes.

I don't care about a game loading a few seconds quicker. I want quiet operation.

My PS3 is fairly quiet. My 360 is a to loud. So for me the option MS gives to rip to hard drive is really quite important.

However their near sighted view when designing the 360 has now come round to bite us consumers. I could ...

SE moving to 360 is not a bad move.

Profit is what drives a company, and so moving multiplat is natural. Plus more profit means more money to invest which means better games.

My concern for SE is not that they have moved to multiplat, but they appear to have gone off the rails in other ways.

In the past every SE game was anticipated, and of high quality. Now they seem to be going for quantity over quality and seem intent on milking the FF franchise dry...

Agreed.

I consider myself an educated chap, but some of that article was just painful to read and interpret. I'm thinking this guy is a recent psychology graduate dabbling in gaming journalism because he chose one of those non-vocational joke qualifications!

Tomorrow at work I will be attempting to use the words...

"alleviation of cognitive dissonance" in a sentence...

See what sort of reaction I get :P

Edge gave Turok a 5/10 (the same score they gave Haze) and Area 51 a 4/10.

It's a travesty that R2 is rated close to those POS!

And yet Halo 3 was given 10/10 - what a joke that was. Halo 3 was an 8 all the way.

Was this article meant to be a joke?

I don't know a single person who would pick up a mediocre game instead of a 'gem' just for trophies. I'd like the author to give a few examples of what his 'peepers' have seen. Is he really suggesting a game that is worth 7/10 (not a bad score by any means) would normally be skipped over if it didn't have Trophies.

To be honest, with the current state of play with Trophies I have little or no idea which games do/don't have T...

I've been a subscriber of Edge for a very long time. I like their reviews even if I didn't always agree with the scores; and their articles were always in-depth and interesting.

Just recently things seem to have changed. Instead of being fairly hard on every game and console they seem to be giving 360 games a little bit of an easier ride and more favourable press.

As long as journalism keeps bias to a minimum I don't mind if they are hard on every console, but ...

Ummm, you do realise the texture pack in this article is free. The web site is nothing to do with Sony/MM.

You go in to LBP - search for the level called littlebigmadness.com Textures Pack 1 and voila.

Agreed.

The OS should be there to support all the important stuff. In some ways it's both the most and least important thing on a console.

I really don't care about the added features as long as I can log in quickly and get a game launched.

But the masses of added value is always welcome as long as it doesn't impact on the previous point I made.

NXE is an improvement in almost every way; but I can't understand why people are hyping or hatin...

GamerReport. Out of interest, as you appear to know a bit about Maya, do you know the reason why they would report in quads?

I know a triangle is the simplest polygon, and a quad is the simplest polygon that can intersect itself, but I would have no idea why they would report one or the other.

I guess even the experts get mixed up as Sam mentions tri's as the poly count and then quads as being their standard measure!

Twin Snakes is one of my favourite games of all time (along with Eternal Darkness).

Well, I'm a gamer in my 30's so my gaming diet growing up has always been high in Nintendo goodness.

But the Wii is the first Ninty console I've owned that has gathered dust. Some of my fave games were on N64 and GC, but the Wii just isn't doing it for me.

It's not only that their target market seems to be casual (or more accurately 'easily accessible') gaming, it's that the reinvigoation of the key franchises hasn't worked. Zelda was a borefest for me. Mario ...

I don't want to nit-pick here but...

By definition, the simplest polygon is a 3 sided shape... a triangle.

So the bosses who are made of 60,000 tri's are made of 60,000 polygons. The guy simply stated that they count in quad's not tri's at Insomniac, (which would be 30,000).

In the question after the 'bosses are up to 60,000tris' answer the guy even states he was taken aback by being able to work on 60,000 poly models.

ZOMG!!!11!!! Autodesk are such PS3 fanboyz /jk :)

Nice to see these sort of articles. They give a much deeper insight to the industry and the amount of work that goes in to game development. Always make me feel a little sorry for those devs who get get low game reviews - they still put in the effort, they just don't get the acclaim like Insomniac et al.

I haver a lot of respect for the hard work and patience games developers put in. Not just the art work, but...

You make a good point, similar to one I have been making for a while...

The 50million MS wasted on GTAIV DLC could have been used to finance a few existing developers or even start up a couple of new ones.

When Epic launched the original Gears they claimed it cost 10million to make. If that's true then MS could have had 5 new IP, or invested in some great titles.

Instead we get MS closing studios and a cutting 1st party developers loose.

Not so KewlKat...

I would love to see Rare back at the top.

I don't want rehashes and remakes. I want good games.

In my opinion Banjo is, and should always be, a traditional platform game. There's more than enough room on the 360 for a good 3D platformer. Shoehorning Banjo in to Nuts and Bolts was not a good idea.

I thought Kameo was a solid game with masses of potential despite it's turbulent development. However have we seen a sequel? ...

@Montrealien

16 games, that's surprising actually. When thinking of Rare I normally think of one game in a blue moon!!

I agree Rare deserve respect, and they deserve a place in the annals of gaming history.

But unfortunately in this business a developer is only as good as their last game...

I say, to each his/her own, so if people liked Nuts and Bolts, then fair enough. I played the demo and really couldn't see the appeal. I'll st...

Yeah, that was a surprise I could have lived with out!

In the case of Banjo I have a feeling that Microsoft may have done something similar to Rare as Nintendo did with the whole Star Fox Adventures saga.

IIRC Nintendo 'suggested' (forced?) Rare to change their Dinosaur themed adventure game in to a Star Fox game.

I have a feeling Rare may well have been working on a new IP with Nuts and Bolts, and Microsoft may well have 'suggested' they tie it to...

Oh come on Bladestar, take off those Xbox tinted glassses for a second!

Rare are/were one of my favourite developers. Their output as 'Ultimate Play the Game' on the Speccy was amazing; their output on SNES and N64 was legendary. Blast Corps is still one of my all time fave games.

But their star has falled in recent times, and it obvious to all but the most blinded fanboys. The stuff they are producing now is nothing more than solid or average compared to thei...
