Boo hoo Nai.
You're just desperate for Sony to have their own 'horse armour' incident aren't you?!
The MGS DLC is a great little addition to a great game.
It's worth every penny, just as I'm sure the Fable 2 DLC will also be a purchase for me.
Well, everyone is entitled to their opinion js_mac. And this is the Open Zone...
'08 has been pretty slim for the 360. I've only bought a couple of games for mine - Fable 2 was the big one for me, and I'll be getting Gears 2 tomorrow.
I'm sure MS have a few titles they have yet to announce, but it seems to me that '07 was the peak of gaming for 360 owners.
"We would like to give a special nod to some of hard core Too Human fans who have put more than 600+ hrs into the game"
Wow, so 600 people bought the game and each put in 1 hour before going insane from seeing the resurrection sequence yet again!! Kudos to those who could stomach it that long!! :)
A day in the life of Miyamoto...
Wakes up.
Thinks: How can I alienate the core fans who supported the company through the early days and the bad times, today?
Goes to bathroom, takes a leak...
...Looks down while shaking mini-Miyamoto
Thinks: Hmm, I just thought of another game to utilise the Wiimote.
Gets to office.
Team meeting: Today we shall take a beloved Nintendo IP and create ano...
Yeah, it can be tough. But I don't think comparison of exclusives should be dismissed out of hand.
I often see talk of Uncharted looking better than Gears. In terms of art direction that is hugely subjective. Also you could argue what makes it a comparison worth making - For example do we compare Uncharted to Gears because both are third person games with a cover system?? Sounds pointless to me.
But... and it is a big but...
Most people judge i...
You make a good point, but this is the most educated guesswork we'll get and many of your concerns are factored in to their reports.
Even if we say the figures are 10% higher than Sony gets the parts for - which could be true, but unlikely - Sony are still making a small loss.
Unlike many people on N4G iSuppli know what they are talking about! :)
@ PirateThom.
What these iSuppli reports don't cover is the additional costs per unit - such as shipping, tax and other associated distribution costs.
The $50 lost is purely on materials. The other costs will just increase this figure.
@ Firstkn1ght
I dunno if I can see MS making a profit on every 360 sold at the moment.
Even with the Jasper board the 360 is still far more complex than the Wii - and yet I recently saw a report that Nin...
Agreed grashopper, but there's not many businesses willing to pour so much money away just for market share.
Can't imagine Ford, GM etc doing the same to such an extent.
It's only the strength of their other business interests that have allowed Sony (and MS to an even greater extent) to absorb the losses from the gaming division this generation (and the last gen for MS).
Umm, we listen to them because part of their business is built around stripping these things down and analysing the parts to work out the approximate cost.
Do you honestly think they are just pulling a number out of their backsides?
As the article states... Sony is usually one step ahead of iSuppli, so I would imagine Sony should be breaking even in the next 6 months.
I'd be interested to see the Xbox 360's bill of goods, as since the price drop MS has been very quiet.
Before the price drop they had mentioned they were making a profit on each 360 - but considering Nintendo are 'only' making $6 per Wii I would imagine the 360 may have returned to making a loss for MS.
It's a ...
I agree, it really depends on the game.
For example I love games like Chrono Trigger which had an awesome story but were fairly simplistic in their graphics (even if the art direction was awesome). The graphics didn't matter so much. But having said that, graphics can really help tell a story.
The days of obvious linear story telling through text boxes are numbered. With good graphics so many more nuances can be told through actions rather than text (or even a...
In an ideal world I'd agree with you. But unfortunately little things like budgets and release windows get in the way of the nirvana you are suggesting!! :)
However, now that a few publishers have recently stated they are making more money from PS3 titles (even if it is just from one or two quarters results) I would imagine that projects getting the green light now will have much more of a PS3 focus.
Back in the day I had to learn Visual Basic. Later I had to learn C++. Learning C++ was a pain in the backside compared to VB - but the results were worth it.
Driving a car with automatic gears is easier. Driving a manual is harder - but the better driving expereince means the results are worth it.
And so it goes on.... If you put the time and effort in to something it often yields rewards. And it's easy to see the developers who have done that on PS3.
Who had the best games line up is purely a personal opinion.
No amount of rabid number throwing will change my opinion. Quote all the Metacritic and Sales figures you want fanboys it doesn't change anything!! :)
I played some stunning games this year on all consoles and handhelds, but for me the PS3 came out on top. I played it more than my 360 and Wii combined.
There's been so many good games. I really enjoyed Fable 2. LBP was amazing and I'l...
The article fails to consider one thing...
If the PS3 starts seriously thrashing the 360 in terms of graphics, MS have a simple answer...
They launch their next console...
The chances are we're going to see the Next Xbox by late 2011 (possibly earlier). And although graphics are starting to plateau the newer tech in the Next Xbox will improve quality.
So, does it matter? Not really, MS have their bases covered even if it means earl...
Off topic. I use Firefox at home, but am forced to use IE6 at work.
What sort of coders can't manage to make their site work in IE?
Jeez!
Why would Sony drop the price so close to Xmas. Wouldn't make sense for them to make a Europe wide price cut at this point. If they were going to drop the price it would have been at least a month ago.
Retailers are free to set any price they like, so maybe the retailer is trying to drum up business with a limited offer.
I don't think it's a photoshop job, and the pic is definitely not from a UK store as can be seen by the sign in the lower right corner.
I dunno if anyone else feels like this, but when I think of Gears I don't immediately think of it as a Xbox brand in the same way as Halo is so inextricably linked with the brand.
Maybe it's because Epic are a third party dev. Or maybe it's because I've always seen gears as some sort of off-shoot of Unreal Tourney (graphically at least).
<shrug>
Weird.
I think LBP is really going to be a 'long tail' game.
I don't consider it a flop at all. It's probably made it's money back already.
I do think Sony missed Phil Harrison for the launch of this title. He had the vision to bring MM on board and really gave them the space to develop LBP. When he left I'm not sure Sony knew exactly what they had on their hands - which is why the marketing was so muddled.
EDIT: A phantom disagree! Care to discuss wh...
It's all very well people saying 'Sony should anticipate this that and the other', but the fact is that most of the servers are run by the devs/publishers.
And y'know what? When you're providing a FREE service, you want to spend as little on it as possible.
So it should come as no shock what so ever when the servers fall over in the beginning. The people providing the service will always lean on the side of cost savings. If (or more likely, when) the servers fall ...
