Yeah, it's amazing that some trolls take the time and effort to post something lame on N4G, but couldn't find the time to read anything more than the title of the article!
You make a fair point, but I think the graphics in Gears add as much as the game play itself.
The 'must see what's coming next' of the art direction/graphics keeps me playing and makes me forget/ignore those niggles I have with the controls, cover system, dumb AI and so on.
It's like a big stupid summer blockbuster action movie of a game - and I like it for that reason. It would be far weaker if it had 'ordinary' graphics.
Huh, videogamefreak?
Your paranoia is stopping you making relevant comments, and is getting in the way of sensible debate and discussion.
I own both consoles, I prefer my PS3. But that doesn't stop me having a conversation about the future of Gears, as it's a series I really like.
Yeah, I think I agree, Sarcasm. Get one story out the way and then move on to something new, bigger and more badass in the world of Gears! :)
It has to be assumed that the power of UE4 and new hardware would allow EPIC to do some really crazy stuff.
Plus the 360 is 'only' 4 years old, it should really live long enough to see another Gears game before people start getting hyped for the Next Xbox.
Have a go at reading the article, not just the title.
It's talking about whether Gears 3 should be on 360 or Next Xbox.
In terms of the Unreal Engine 3, then maybe it is almost maxed out on the 360.
However I still think there is some more untapped power in the console.
Part of the problem is that MS have so few 1st party devs to create a proprietry engine (in the way Guerilla Games, Insomniac and Naughty Dog have for Sony). The Halo engine was a bit of a disappointment to me, and Rare while Banjo Nuts and Bolts was a good looking game, it didn't appear to stretch the 360 much.
...
Gears 3 would either be a fitting swansong to the end of the 360's life - or an awesome launch title for the Next Xbox.
Lol at phantom disagree!
Wonder if they disagreed with the use of spell check, or that you are looking forward to Uncharted 2!
MS's poor hardware, lack of exclusives and short product life cycles have dented my enthusiasm for Xbox.
It'll take a lot to convince me to buy the Next Xbox. Which is a shame, as I've owned pretty much every make and model of console since the Atari VCS.
Set your expectations low, and you can only be pleasantly surprised... :)
Speculation just leads to overblown hype and ultimately disappointment.
More fool anyone who ditched Ninty during the N64 era, SpoonyRedMage!!
They produced some of the best games ever made during this time, and it's a real shame so many people missed out on them.
I'm not ready to ditch Nintendo - but I'll be very cautious about buying any of their future products.
I got a Wii on Day 1... Been gathering dust for quite some time now. Good games are few and far between - and mostly rentals rather than 'must have' purchases.
The biggest issue for me is the dilution of core franchises. Mario Galaxy is a shadow of Mario 64. Zelda:TP is nowhere near Ocarina. Mario Kart Wii vs the SNES version is a no contest. And so it goes on... ...
Playstation has always been about diversity and long tail sales, never about Day 1 or Month 1 figures.
If Sony has poured 30million in to Killzone 2 advertising, it would probably have have sold more. But in my experience people who only own a Playstation like the diversity and may buy the console just for quirky titles like Disgaea. People who only own a 360 like Halo, Gears and Madden and little else.
Halo and Gears are the exception, not the rule, when it com...
I agree, but that doesn't stop a game being fun.
I'm happy to forgive a game a few glitches, slow-downs, pop-ins if it's good fun. Gears 2 was fun (although on the whole I think it's a bit overrated).
Until I played Killzone 2 I thought Gears 2 was the best looking game I had played. Art direction counts for a lot.
MS were actually really quite smart by using Epic for Gears. Epic basically created a tech demo for what the UE3 engine could do on 360.
UE3 is a affordable, easy to develop for, and a mature product - so for many devs it's a no brainer to use it on the 360, especially as they essentially get a PS3 version for 'free' by porting it. But the fact it's a multiplatform engine does mean that it will never extract 100% from the 360.
When you look at games like Unchar...
Something means something when someone wants to prove their own point!!
Otherwise all somethings mean nothing :)

Of course MS will beat Sony this generation...
As soon as Sony get within a few units of overtaking the 360, MS will simply launch their next console and call an end to the 360 vs PS3 game!
In all likelihood we'll see about 7-8 years from the 360 and 10+ from the PS3. So chances are the PS3 will beat the 360 over lifetime - so just as MS got a 1 year hard start, Sony may have a 2+ year tail end.
To me they are equal.
Dualshock advantages:
Lightweight (even the DS3)
Better feel to the analogue sticks
Much better D-Pad
Prefer R1/L1 to the 360's R/L Bumpers
360 advantages:
Fits my hands better
Triggers are awesome
Tie:
Position of sticks (depends on game which is better)
Face buttons
I would say the DS3's L2/R2 buttons are truly awful - but I got a set of those Giotek angl...
If Nintendo thought that Rare could continue delivering the quality titles it had during the N64 days, they would never have let them go. The fact that they did makes me think that Nintendo were smart enough to see what was happening.
I think the relationship soured during the GameCube days. The story of Nintendo forcing Rare to change their Dinosaur Land game in to StarFox Adventures may have been the final straw.
Plus, developers change over time - staff come...
It's a great list, but how can they stop at 30!!! There's so many more great titles...
Privateer 2 (Christopher Walken FTW!)
Sam n max Hit the Road
Monkey Island 1 and 2
X-wing vs TIE Fighter
Full Throttle
Indigo Prophesy
Settlers 2 or 3
Sid Meiers Pirates
Star Wars Republic Commando
Uplink
World of Goo
Amazing how many of those titles I listed are LucasArts... Oh, how the mighty have fallen!!
