OMG, teh 360 is DOOOOMED!
12 vs 15... big whoop.
:)
Good luck playing an FPS on a touchscreen! :)
EDIT.. Hmm, actually Metroid on DS wasn't half bad... but I think my point would still stand for a monitor style touchscreens...
I agree to an extent... A lot of people are viewing Duke through rose tinted glasses.
Back in the day it was a fun game, but things have moved on.
Serious Sam was the closest we've got on PC, and was fun for a while. In some ways the crazy weaponry of Ratchet and Clank felt inspired by Duke. We've seen more than enough one dimensional wise cracking stereotypical heroes in games that having yet another one just makes me yawn. all in all I just can't see 3DRealms...
Buying 3DRealms would appear to be the opposite of Microsoft's current strategy when it comes to developers.
I think it would be much more likely they would create a 2nd party relationship to fund the project to completion and then cut them loose.
The advantage of this is that we would probably see DNF finished with in 12 months and on sale by Christmas 2010 on 360, and probably PC 6-12months later.
It's easier to employ a 2nd party dev on a st...
In terms of DLC, Capcom are up there with Horse Armour.
As a developer, I think more than any other Japanese company out there they have tried to orientate themselves to a western audience.
Most Japanese devs have realised they must cash in on Western tastes, and are trying to change (even SquareEnix have mentioned this) - the market for hardcore games in Japan is shrinking, in the West it is growing.
I don't think all their efforts have worked so ...
Well, I'm not ready to completely write off Microsoft (yet).
They could pull a surprise or two at E3...
However the signs are not great...
Developers seem to be frustrated with MS, and the number of 1st party studios has reduced.
MS' recent financial results make me wonder how deep their pockets are going to be to pay for timed exclusives and DLC in future.
They seem to lack a clear direction and strategy beyond 'Beat ...
Well, I agree to a point, but a good game is a good game regardless of whether it's multiplatform or not.
If you only own a 360 then there's a few things to look forward to there.
However if you are a multi-console owner then the list probably looks a bit lacklustre.
If you are sitting on the fence over which HD console to buy, I think it's clear that the PS3 is the only way to go. Multi-platform releases are almost identical now, and the number...
Bizarre owe MS nothing.
F1 97 established Bizarre, and Metropolis Street Racer made PGR what is was.
If MS hadn't bankrolled Bizarre it wouldn't have been hard for them to get funding elsewhere.
Blur will show what Bizarre can really do when they throw off the shackles of a publisher who just wanted to milk the PGR name more and more.
It's slightly worrying that MS seem to be alienating a few devs.
Bizarre are not the first to mention strained/poor relationships.
I hope MS doesn't undo all the good work it has done with the Xbox brand - but maybe this is a sign of their lack of experience in the gaming industry.
Developers are a fickle bunch, and often the working conditions / relationship is more important than the money being thrown around.
No game should take that long to release. I'm just surprised that 3DRealms were allowed to continue this farce for so long.
Did they really expect to recoup it's costs from that length of development time.
I hate to see people out of work - especially in the current climate - but it is obvious that a lack of management, or a lack of skill was hindering this project.
Can we just get through 2009's launches without idle speculation about 2010 already!! :)
There's two sides to this to me, and both have pros and cons.
WoW is more than an MMO, it has an interesting history and lore which you can (if you wish) learn about while playing the game - so from this perspective it's good to make new players play from lvl 1 as they get more immersed in the charcaters and factions etc.
The other upside of this is that noob players learn how to play the game properly (well, we hope they do!) before they hit the high end content...
Absolutely agree. I think Halo would have enjoyed decent but not amazing sales if multiplat.
Bungie were in the right place at the right time when MS was looking for a developer to push the Xbox.
I can't fault the way MS has handled the Halo franchise (up to a point). And it's a great demonstration of the power of marketing!
Well, you could equally argue... What if MS had never bought Bungie, and they had released a Halo RTS as they originally intended!
The gaming landscape would be VERY different!!
"Halo 3's Success Due To Lack of Quality Xbox 360 Exclusives"
No... Halo 3 is a success because MS marketed the heck out of it, and it's an OK single player FPS, and a very good multiplayer FPS. The full match replay function alone should earn it a place in history and be incorporated in to EVERY FPS!
However, Halo 3's CONTINUED success could be put down to nothing better coming along in the genre.
The more time goes on, the more apparent it b...
My laptop runs Windows, but if I just need to do something quick and can't be bothered to wait for Windows to boot I use a Linux build on a thumb drive
Just plug it in, and a few seconds later I'm running. Saves having to dual boot the machine.
Best versions to stick on a thumb drive are Puppy Linux or Ubuntu (needs U904p.exe to make Ubuntu persistent). Not tried PendriveLinux yet.
What I particularly like is that the 360 fans have jumped up as if Reeves just gave confirmation that it'll take 3-5 years to beat the 360. As if the 360 is the market leader.
360 fanboys have a strange interpretation of the word 'dominant'! Last I checked the 360 was in second place, being crushed by the Wii - how is that dominant?
Nice.
I loved Crackdown, so hopefully this will exceed it. Sucker Punch are a solid developer.
In the movie industry a flop is a film that doesn't make it's money back. No reason why we wouldn't apply the same logic to a video game.
Fanboys throw the word flop around because a particular game didn't perform to THEIR expectations, which has little to do with reality.
Not matching the hype is not the same thing as being a flop. If that were the case almost every game released this generation could be considered a flop!
Well, All Ghilied Up is still a graphically amazing level in my opinion, so if CoD:MW2 is matching that then I'll be very happy.
