Yeah, I'm a bit confused by the massive buzz around Splinter Cell.

It looked awesome and I'll definitely pick it up, but I thought there were probably 3-5 titles that were bigger/better in my opinion. Although I did like the way they have have integrated flashbacks and mission objectives directly in to the game.

The one thing I felt from Ubisoft is that a lot of their games seem to be gravitating towards a similar style of play - like Assassins Creed 2, Splinter...

Considering this is Gamemplayer AU I'm going to hedge my bets on MS winning! :)

<clicks link>

Well what do you know... Categories defined purely to pander to Microsoft... Celeb appearances! Wooo, that makes ME want to buy another 10 360's! Even with these arbitrary categories it was still too close to call.

For me the conferences come down to 4 things..

Games
Services
Hardware
Fluff

The firs...

It's all about the games.

The tech means nothing with out some innovative and fun games.

At the moment neither Sony nor MS have shown anything. Until they do I have no interest in this technology.

If we use Nintendo as the current motion control benchmark - I can count the number of games that are actually make innovative use of the Wiimote on one hand. The rest is just shovelware or forced in to games that do not need motion control. I hope MS/...

@Green 1.2

You just gave one of the most compelling reasons for Natal to exist.

I love the way people on this site warp their own point of view to match what their company of choice is doing, and are happy to swallow whatever message the company spews out...

When Sony made gamers wait for titles they were savaged; and yet MS show almost nothing for 2009, plus some underdeveloped tech and it's OK for us to wait because... it's the future.

If Sony or Nintendo had shown a 'turbo charged Tamagotchi called Milo' (roughly Peter Molyneaux's words i...

Here we go again! Yesterday it was 'Crysis 2 pushes the PS3 to it's limits'.

Today was have 'MW2, pushes the 360 to it's limits'.

I'm not a game designer, but I would put money that the NEXT Call of Duty also 'pushes the 360 and/or PS3 to it's limits'; along with a just about every AAA between now and when MS/Sony retire their current gen consoles!!

Yeah, I recall that info.

I also recall hearing that the break-away controller(s) had been focus group tested, and were quite a long way in to development.

Interesting to see how this all pulls together.

I would imagine that Sony will sell the Sony remote in packs of 2 (one for each hand), so maybe making them in to a break-away controller makes sense.

I liked the Sony demos for motion control. Mainly because they are the sort of things I was hoping Nintendo would do when the Wiimote was announced.

However I still remain to be convinced that motion controls are anything more than a gimmick in the vast majority of cases. I can name about 3 games on Wii that are improved by motion control - but can name loads where it's utterly unnecessary (Mario Galaxy for a start).

And something like archery. I'd rather have ...

Perhaps the additonal processing to render 1080p/60 is why there never appeared to be more than 8 cars on track in Forza 3 presentation.

And, disc swapping in a racing game... Can't wait for that! Unless MS allow us to install DVD 1 to hard drive, and then have the 2nd DVD in the disc drive.

Perhaps they can incorporate Natal control in to Forza - that way when I come in for a pitstop, my buddy can change tires and swap the disc while he's up!!

Yeah, that's pretty much my take on it.

Personally I thought Sony had the best show. Xbox Live movie streaming, social networking on Xbox and Natal just don't interest me.

Out of the front men I though Tretton was way better than Mattrick. Tretton was humourous and seemed more at ease. Mattrick and co just seemed a bit slimy. Plus the idiots they dragged out for the Forza and Natal demo's came across as arrogant.

If anyone saw that footage of GoW3 in motion and actually cares whether it's 1080p, 720p or goddam 640p, I pity you!

Is GoW3 going to be less fun if it's not 1080p? Is the experience going to be spolied if it locks at 30fps and not 60?

That game looks awesomes, and it looks like fun. You can take your resolution arguments stick 'em where the sun don't shine. :)

YES!!

I love Persona and can't wait to see what they do on next-gen consoles :)

This is one of the best pieces of news to come out of E3. It's right up there with the Last Guardian reveal for me!

Sony edged it in my opinion.

I still can't understand why hardcore gamers are excited for Natal, and specifically Milo. Suddenly motion controls ARE the future just because MS/Sony say so? Interesting how these fanboys screaming 'it teh futurez' are the same bunch who have been ripping in to Nintendo for their waggle controls.

Molyneaux has referred to Milo as something like a 'turbo charged Tamagotchi'. I can think of nothing more boring.

Hmm, I'm not so sure about this appointment.

Peter has often said in previous interviews that he prefers to be hands-on and part of the creative process rather than a working at an operational level.

I hope this works out for him.

It'll be good that he may get Rare back on track, but from a specific project point of view I don't think we'll be seeing as much Peter Molyneaux influence at the nuts and bolts level of development.

From what I hear the MS solution uses an IR camera and a regular camera.

The IR data is used for height mapping so anything to do with how near/far something is, and to ensure that people are being captured, not inanimate objects. The regular camera tracks 2D movement (the silhouette stuff).

The data is mashed together to create the motion tracking. Then throw in voice recognition and face recognition processing through software.

So it is a step on from...

Natal looks cool, but so does the Sony motion controllers.

Considering the PSEye has a mic attached to it there's no reason Sony couldn't add voice recognition, and I'm sure face recognition would also be done in software, so if the resolution of the PSEye is good enough they could do that too.

The tech that MS showed was neat, but it was just an evolution of what we've had for years. EyeToy lead the way, and Nintendo followed up with the Wiimote. I'm not taking any...

Considering how much it's going to cost to develop, I expect this to end up on 360, as well as the already announced PC and PS3.

Subecriptions are where the money is.

MS lost points with me purely on the number of times the Forza developer said the word 'definitive'!!

I also thought that during the Natal demo the cheap shot at the Wii controller was in poor taste - the only reason the Natal Project was born was because of the Wiimote! Also seeing the Avatar spazzing out when he tried to show the bottom of his foot made me think this tech is still not as advanced as they are making out.

If I remember correctly the PSP fat launched in the UK at £199 I think (I bought one on Day one and still have it).

If Tretton's statement holds true that they will launch in Europe and US at the same price point as the original PSP then hopefully it'll be £199. However it wouldn't surprise me if the price is £250.

On the face of it the PSP Go does seem expensive - but when you compare it to the 16GB iTouch, which retails for £214 in the UK, ...

On his Twitter account Jaffe said the following:

"bailing on 3 day E3 plans. If I go, it'll be 1 day. 2 much work+I'm really digging getting all the great E3 info from the comfort of home :)"

Doesn't look like he was going to be announcing anything.
