I'm guessing this author hasn't played Fahrenheit / Indigo Prophesy!!
Heavy Rain may not be a traditional game - but complaining that this game is using graphics to compensate for QTE game play is stupid on a whole bunch of levels.
This game isn't hard as such - it just requires gamers to snap out of this hand holding, spoon-fed malaise they have fallen in to with the current wave of no-skill-required games that are dumbed down by the 'must capture casual market' finance guys at publishers.
This game makes you play 'smart', think about every step you take in the game. So Suck it up wimps, this game rocks.
:)
Fingers crossed Dan...
I liked the idea of an open world supernatural type of game originally described, and that seemed to mesh with the snippets of story they had made available. But the new linear style didn't really make me think 'Wow, Day 1 purchase'.
The problem with the E3 demo was that the gameplay reminded me of the early 'Find arbitrary Useful Item to use at Point A, then backtrack to find another arbitrary item to use', like the original Res Evil. Al...
I kinda agree. I know this will get a lot of disagrees, but the game just looked to play like Resident Evil 4 crossed with Alone in the Dark....
That may not be a bad thing at all, but it just seems a little disappointing compared to the original developer talk. Seems like they've scaled back the game quite a lot compared to their original ambition.
I'm just hoping the story is strong enough to carry the game.
Serious question Foxgod...
If you have both a gaming PC and a 360 - why would you buy the 360 version that would have been more expensive AND run at a lower resolution? (Obviously now a hypothetical question)
I own a decent gaming PC and a 360, and for those multi-plats I would always choose my PC. Just seems like common sense to me.
I too discarded PC gaming some time ago - I may have even claimed 'I would never buy another PC as long as I had my 360 and PS3'.
But having just built a new rig, I gotta say PC gaming is alive and healthy and offering some nice different experiences to consoles.
Good news that there's more Valkyria Chronicles coming, but a little disappointed it's on PSP.
The original didn't exactly sell by the bucketload, so I guess it's cheaper and safer to develop on PSP.
Fair enough Azures.
In a small company that may be feasible, but I'd still be wary... In a company with around 80,000 employees across 18+ different countries it's really not an option or wise to be an early adopter!!
Oh, a phantom disagree... Care to pit your fanboy wisdom against logic and common sense?
Thought not!
I'm not sure DX11 is going to be picked up massively for quite some time, not because it's hard to program or anything, but purely for cost/budget reasons on the part of developers.
Having used Windows 7 beta and Release Candidate I have to say it's a Day 1 purchase!
It's very stable, and everything just works. The biggest improvements are in speed and ease of use. My desktop PC boots in well under 1minute, and shuts down in a few seconds. It's got a few nice feat...
Just downloading the 10 day trial...
No idea why but it appears the European trial version is a 9.6GB download, and the US version 'only' 6GB... Weird..
Any company that jumps straight in to Windows 7 is asking for trouble. I love the RC, but unless the company is very close partner to MS, they won't be in any hurry to migrate until they see it stable in the corporate sector for a long time.
There's more to an OS than just launching programs - there's legacy applications that may only work on older OS' (and what IT company is wholly going to invest in testing compatibility mode, or trusting it with business critical apps).

Hmm I dunno about this article. It makes fair points, but I don't agree with all of it.
Microsoft exclusive? That doesn't quite sit right with me. Feels like people making up terms to justify their point of view. As Thom said above; same with 'Timed Exclusive', just another term for 'Multi-platform'.
For me 'Exclusive' means I only have the choice of playing a game on one specific platform. So if I have the choice of buying a game on 360 OR on another platform I ...
I think the devs massively overestimated their server demand at launch.
Look at World of Warcraft... It was estimated that just before WotLK launched Blizz was running 180servers WORLDWIDE. So between launch and WotLK (4 years?) the MMORPG with over 50% of the market was running 'only' 180 servers.
To think that WAR would need 100 servers from Day 1 is crazy, so it makes a huge amount of sense - especially in this economy - to merge servers where necessary.
...
At first I thought... Sensible decision.
But to be honest this game is NOT going to sell millions, is NOT going to be a system seller, and was always going to be overshadowed by the other AAA releases (regardless of when it launches).
I loved Fahrenheit and I'm looking forward to this game - but it's far too niche to make much impact on the 09 holiday season, and I don't see it making many or any waves in '10.
If the game is ready - they may as we...
Warhammer 40k and Champions Online are the two MMORPG's I'm really looking forward to...
Command and Conquer is one of my favourite game series. I'm glad they are focusing on PC this time.
I am hoping the answer is... 'No involvement...at all'
Luckily I own a PS3, Wii and 360 (and a damned good PC) so it's a bit easier for me... :)
Up until the end of 2007 I would have chosen a 360.
Since 2008 started it has to be the PS3.
A more interesting question is... If the Next Xbox and the PS4 and the Wii2 all launched on the same day at the same price point, and you could only buy one of them... Which would you choose??
For me, I think I'd go with the PS4.
