@Cenobia,

I'm a real sceptic when it comes to motion controls (Sony's or MS' and certainly Nintendo's), and I suspect we'll see a million and one casual / party / shovelware games on Natal.

However Natal does have the potential to be great. Two examples below, used in conjunction with a controller and incorporating gesture recognition or tracking...

Imagine a game like GRAW where the player is commanding an AI squad... If Natal is as good as it is...

bathyj "You might be happy with the tiny trickle of one game mid year then a couple right before christmas but I'm not. I've being busy all year"

That sums up the 360 experience perfectly.

MS has had almost nothing since 'the perfect storm' in 2007. Fable 2 and Gears 2 were good, but not amazing (I still can't believe Fable 2 got such high scores considering it was so buggy).

It really annoys me that MS seem to think the gaming year is n...

MS' 09 E3 was historic in the same way Sony's 2005 E3 was historic.

Smoke and mirror's mostly.

Natal - I remain to be convinced. I can think of some awesome applications for it (such as using gestures to control an AI squad in an FPS game). But overall, it was old tech in a shiny new box, and Milo was just creepy (and appears to have been mostly staged from what I've read). It will be interesting to see how it really works, and what games are released that rea...

@King

The first part of the year is always slow, but Sony have been dropping just enough games to keep my PS3 on all the time! Plus, because of the strong 2008 the PS3 had, I still had a few titles left over to play.

For me 2009 has been about, Killzone 2, Valkyria Chronicles (late 2008 release), inFamous, Demon's Souls (import), plus a few other 2008 titles I didn't have time to play (like Saints Row 2 and Dead Space).

Then there's a few other mu...

XBL is a fine service, just not one I am willing to pay for.

The only feature I'm interested in is online play. The rest is just fluff I can live with out.

PC online gaming has always been free, and PSN online gaming is free... Paying for the Gold service does not give me a better experience.

Hardware sales only matter up to a point Chubear.

PS3, 360 and obviously the Wii have all sold enough units to ensure that developers have a very good chance of being profitable if they launch a quality game. So the weekly/monthly hardware sales totals now mean very little to us gamers in terms of the chance of our favourite game getting a sequel or whatever.

Plus, hardware sales numbers do not tell the whole story. Look at how many 3rd party developers have co...

Does Pachter not play games?

Can't say that Twitter/Facebook integration was important at all. Sure, creating a gaming social network (beyond online play/clans etc) is important, but this sort of tacked on integration is not important.

Have a read of this for some insight in to what the industry actually needs http://www.gamesindustry.bi...

Seems to me that any game that has a network/online component will pause the background download. Seems fair enough to me.

Not sure if this is the rule though, as I've not looked in to it enough - it's definitely game dependant. It's just not an issue for me. The article is nothing more than a whine.

If background downloading worked in every game, the person who wrote this article would probably compain about lag in online games as their download was sucking u...

My only concern with DQ on DS is that they don't tailor it to suit a handheld.

Most people use handlhelds in shorter bursts (train journeys etc). So DQIX will need to fit that type of usage.

For me, the biggest failings of RPG's on DS (and PSP) is that they work in the 'traditional' style of being longer, and more drawn out between saves (Crisis Core on PSP is a good example of this problem).

If MS wanted to really gain a foothold in Japan it would secure a Dragon Quest exclusive (and not a side project). Guaranteed to shift a few million boxes!

Even Halo can't compare... Shops opening early to take PRE-ORDERS... Wow!

Be interesting to see the hardware figures for DS once DQIX eventually drops in Japan.

I don't see what the problem is...

The graphics look about right for a Wii game. A few months polish and that'll do it.

This is NOT representative of the PS3/360 version which is a whole different version... F1 2010!!

Regardless of who 'invented' this technology first, the fact remains that MS have brought it to the public's attention in the same way Nintendo brought the Wiimote in to the limelight. You only have to look at Microsoft's strategy of throwing millions of advertising dollars at a project to know what MS are going to do with Natal.

Any intelligent gamer can see that Natal is little more than a small evolution of technologies that have been around for years and years. It is noth...

Clear winner to who? Those who ONLY own a 360 maybe.

As a multi console owner Sony showed stuff I was actually excited about, while Microsoft just tried to cover up their weak exclusive line-up with smoke and mirrors.

It's impossible to claim that MS have a strong 2009, when half of it has gone already and there hasn't been one worthwhile exclusive release to buy. Goddamit I WANT to play game son my 360.

The most telling thing of all is that sinc...

Yeah, The Last Guardian trailer was awesome. Luckily I missed the leaked footage pre-E3, so I was just blown away by it.

I hope they tone down the graphics for the kid a bit, as I found him a little jarring and cartoony against the realism of the creature (particualrly the bit where the kid strokes the creatures head near the beginning), but overall it was just breathtaking.

I wonder if the kid, the creature or something else is the 'Last Guardian'. It's going ...

When the Sony dude first held up that motion controller I seriously thought Sony had entered the XXX rated entertainment business!

Not so much a specific embarassing moment, but an embarassing thing about E3 was the media getting absolutely suckered in by Natal.

Gaming journalists seem to be a cynical and miserable bunch for the most part - so failing to see beyond the Milo smoke and mirrors was a bit of a low point for me.

Second most embarassing thing about E3 was reading comments from PS3 and 360 fanboys - who had previously ripped in to Nintendo for the Wiimote - suddenly proclaiming mot...

Hmm, I may be tempted to add my PSP to this.

For some odd reason I was suddenly taken by an unshakable NEED to own a PSP on launch day - I even went to a midnight launch.

No idea why. I've bought stuff on day 1 before (Wii, Xbox360 and Gamecube to name three), but never a midnight launch. There wasn't even any games I was desperate to play other than Lumines! It's not happened since for any other products. I blame some sort of Sony mind control!!

Announcements/Interviews like this are why I'm favouring my PS3 right now, and my 360 is gathering dust alongside my Wii.

I know both my 360/Wii will eventually get used again at some point, but I started the year with Killzone 2, then moved on to Valkyria Chronicles, have just finished inFamous and have started Demons Souls, so my PS3 is in constant use. I also have Disgaea to play at some point.

The great thing about Sony (this year) is that we have had a stea...
