That's a good point.

MS have been covering their bases for ages now.

The Arcade was priced to compete with the Wii (and has been losing).

The Elite has been priced much more closely to the PS3 even before price cut. (and has been generally winning)

People have had two good price options for buying a 360, so what would they be waiting for? Sony have just moved their price to a more sane and competitive level, and is obviously part of...

@Tomarcus

MS are obviously working towards realigning their SKU's and pricing - but to do it so soon after Sony announces a price drop would make MS look like it had been forced in to a knee-jerk reaction which can worry investors and shareholders.

The 360 is selling well right now, so no need for MS to make any rash decisions. I don't think the announcement is too far away, but it really wouldn't surprise me if we didn't hear anything until late Sept or early O...

Fable is one series I'm really torn about.

I liked Fable 1, but it was far too short, and I thought the pacing was all wrong.

Fable 2 improved things, but to me was more Fable 1.5 in HD. The bugs were a huge disappointment, and the non-existent difficulty was tragic. I'd like to have seen them cut out all the pointless fluff and concentrate on making a really solid core to the game. Also the whole 'Moral dilemma' stuff was just so badly done - you basically ma...

I agree the Scrappage scheme for cars (as it's called in the UK) is kinda pointless for us as well. The UK has no mainstream car manufacturers, and a lot of the foreigns companies that have manufacturing plants in the UK have been pulling out. It's money going straight out of our economy (minus the tax the government creams off).

Anyway, on topic... I kinda disagree with your comment that games are taking a back seat as they are a luxury item - it's certainly true for some pe...

A gamble, Commodore64? I don't think so (in my humble opinion).

Sony announced they had cut the PS3 Fat's manufacturing costs by 70%. We don't know how much less the PS3 Slim costs them to make, but it's not a huge stretch to consider that it costs even less than the PS3 Fat.

It appears to all intents and purposes that the PS3's lifetime numbers roughly match the 360's over the same period. Considering the higher price point of the PS3 that's quite impressive....

PS2 BC was important to me which is why I picked up a Euro 60GB PS3.

I've used it loads to play stuff like Persona 3 FES and 4, it's been nice having one console that can play both PS3/PS2 games.

But the PS2 BC feature is now less relevant to me. There's very few 'must play' PS2 games coming out now, and it's obvious PS2 development is slowly winding down.

I hope my 60GB PS3 lasts a long time - but if I ever need to buy a new PS3 I'd MUCH rather h...

Price rises are never a good thing, but looking at the price of an Xbox360 Arcade on Amazon.fr it's 179Euro.

179Euro equates to about £155, so this seems like a fair move by MS to align prices across Europe.

Nintendo did the same with the Wii.

It should also be noted that we in the UK are getting a much better deal on the 360 Elite price compared to the rest of Europe.

An Elite in France is 280Euro which equates to £258. H...

Oblivion was pretty disappointing and Fallout 3 was a bit meh! Morrowind was the last great game Bethesda made.

Wow Pizza... That's a blinkered view.

Glad you're not the CEO or CTO of the company I work for.

Every laptop/PC/Smart-Phone sold with a different OS on, is one less sale for Microsoft! Of course they care! It's called marketshare - the less you have, the less money you make!

In general I agree Meus...

But I don't think MS' stranglehold on the UK is quite as strong as you say. Without regular and reliable sales figures it's hard to say on a countrywide level - but from personal experience the number of PS3 owners I know vs 360 owners is about 4:1 in favour of PS3.

No one I know is looking to buy a 360 - they are either waiting until the PS3 drops in price, or are happy playing Wii!!

@FlipMode...

Well, we know that the 360 has a high failure rate - and at one point was at least 30% if not more.

But that does mean any individual who bought an early 360 would have a 70% chance of NOT getting a RRoD.

Not that I'm excusing MS' awful hardware reliability - but it's not inconceivable that even though 100% of the 360's sold in 2005 have the weakness - not everyone will have been hit by the fault. EDIT: Although I'd conceded it is slig...

"We have a plan and a rhythm we are marching to – and we won't be knocked off that cadence in terms of what the opposition might do."

Heh!, I love my Xbox 360, but almost every move MS has made this gen has been in fear of what the competition is doing, or might be doing.

Lol!

Care to name them?

I'm sure we can come up with a comparable list of devs/publishers who have spoken out about the 360 recently.

Why try and make this a PS3 bashing thread? Valve are a developer with a PC heritage so they develop for the PC and a console with a very PC architecture. Plus they are run by an ex-MS employee who still has close ties to the company. It's their perogative to dev for whatever platforms they want.

Jeez, it's amazing how quickly the internet will jump on things like this and twist them.

Ever heard of 'fact checking'? It's what journalists are supposed to do!!!

Also, to answer the question in the title 'Is APB not a 360 exclusive anymore?' No, of course it's not - because it's also coming to PC! This BS about 'console exclusive' or 'Microsoft exclusive' is crazy... If I have a choice of playing the game on more than one platform then it's not exclusive.

There's a difference between a game being difficult and being challenging.

Pixel perfect jumps with millisecond timing, was frustrating to me in old school games. That was a level of difficulty I am not prepared to invest in these days - the level of precision required in stuff like Jet Set Willy, or Dizzy (both of which I completed) is best left in the past.

However, a challenging game that forces the player to play smarter or die is great. Demon's Souls is a ...

It's interesting... On one hand there are millions more 360's in the marketplace.

But on the other hand, anyone who owns both a PS3 and 360 will probably buy the PS3 version because it will be on one Blu-Ray rather than numerous DVD's.

I think FFXIII will definitely shift more PS3 consoles than the 360 version. With a price drop coming, a new Slim model and FFXIII on the horizon - it seems a good time to jump in to PS3 ownership.

Sounds cool. Should allow for some interesting and deeper tactics.

I'm really looking forward to this game - just a shame it won't be on PS3.

@darkequitus

So I guess you missed out on 4 player Goldeneye craziness - not online, but one of the best examples of multiplayer fun.

I would say that Goldeneye is just as important to the FPS genre as Halo.

Also, the original multiplayer for Halo:CE was not all that online (remember Halo was out before LIVE existed), so we're really talking Halo 2 before all the real multiplayer goodness started.

Then throw in Quake and Unreal Tournament; H...

PS3 gamers seem to like variety. Most people I know with PS3's DIDN'T buy KZ2 fopr some reason. They watched me play it, saw the amazing graphics then went back to playing other stuff.

Halo IS Xbox, and Xbox IS Halo. It's almost inconceviable that you would own an Xbox and NOT own Halo.

I owned an Xbox and bought Halo 1 and 2 - I hated Halo 2 with a passion. And yet I bought Halo 3 on Day 1. Didn't really like Halo 3 either (was better than 2) - but I'd stil...
