@ Dark Witness, I totally agree... I was purely using it as a quantity vs quality, not cost, analogy (in the main I think analogies are never a good idea, and this example is the exact reason why!! :D )
That sucks. I was contemplating going with the lifetime subs offer.
The lifetime offer was pretty good.... It worked out that you only needed to play for 14months or more total for the savings to start.
For me, Halo 3 and Killzone 2 were equally flawed, but in different ways. Both were a lot of fun, and I would replay both.
I really like the slower, more precise pace of KZ2's MP as a counterpoint and change of pace from CoD4 and Halo 3's craziness. I'm not a huge fan of H3's MP, but I'm not for a second going to bash it - to each their own I say. The Game Save feature raised the bar, and for me is one of the single most important things added to games so far this gen.
The site doesn't seem to be working for me... So here's my list
GTAIV
Halo 3
MGS 4
Killzone 2
Gears of War 2
Fable 2
Mass Effect
None were bad games - and some of them I loved, but I never felt any of them truly reached their potential, or the hype generated. And in some cases were criminally over rated.
GTAIV was a huge disappointment - soooo boring. I play games for fun. GTAIV was technically better th...
PirateThom, you speak the truth.
The story of Rare is indeed a sad one. I agree that their 360 games have been OK (Kameo really needs a sequel), but compared to the glory days when they known as Ultimate, and latterly the N64 era, they've been a frustrating source of disappointment.
I think Nintendo could see the writing was on the wall with StarFox Adventures and the realtionship had soured too much - which is why they probably laughed all the way to the bank w...
I like the fact that C&C games have never strayed too far from the original template created in the first game (created in Dune really, I suppose). There's plenty of RTS games that are pushing the envelope, or doing something different.
Dawn of War 2 was a tiny bit disappointing, and the Total Annihilation / Supreme Commander games have never appealed.
I like the warm fuzzy feeling from knowing that C&C4 will probably be another refinement on the 'build ...
I seriously think there could be a niche market for these sorts of games again.
Talking about FMV (rather than digital pictures) - my fave was Privateer 2. Christopher Walken and Clive Owen were awesome in that. And who can forget the fantastic 'Kilrathi' outfits from Wing Commander 3 (along with Mark Hamill)!
Dammit I miss those games. Would love to see another Privateer - X3 just doesn't quite hit the spot!
Every system has a solid list of games. Good time to be a gamer.
It's a very nice game. Great graphics - but it doesn't really do anything new in my opinion. In fact it's no surprise that it feels very much like a slightly revamped City of Heroes.
I will definitely be subscribing for a few months - but unless the end game content is amazing, I doubt I'll be giving this more than 3-6 months.
It does look better than DC Online though from the last vids I saw of that game.
It's unbelievable how much money is spent on 'trivial' things like this!
I should definitely have got in to marketing!!! :)
Yeah, I'm more than happy to be proved wrong.
I can think of some awesome uses for Natal - but bringing it to hardcore FPS and driving games just doesn't appeal to me.
@GWAVE
You've hit the nail on the head.
Natal replacing a controller or mouse/keyboard in a hardcore FPS seems like a horrible idea to me. It hasn't workeed well with the Wii, it won't work well with either Natal or the PS3 motion controller.
However I could see Natal and the PSEye being used in conjunction with a regular controller in an FPS for head tracking, grenade tossing, and directing AI and real-life team mates.
I was intere...
It was speculated that when the PS3 first launched it cost around $800 per unit to produce (Business Week article http://www.businessweek.com... ).
By Jan 08 they had reduced costs by 50%, and I believe Merill-Lynch thought the cost was around $494 shortly before that.
If we take $800 as the starting cost and we believe Sony's claim of reducing costs by 70%, we...
Yeah, that was an awesome ad.
5 paragraphs that tell us nothing except Bruce can count the total number of games on Metacritic is considered news?
Yet another empty and pointless article from this hack.
I like the design of the existing 360. I'm not keen on the cheap feel plastic and the off-white colour, but the overall design aesthetic is really nice.
I don't think the size is too big at all. The noise the thing makes is horrible though. My 1st 360 was a Day 1 launch model - failed, the next two were before the big updates were made that improved reliability and noise... So basically even though I'm on my 3rd 360 I'm still stuck with a noisey machine, that is a RRoD timeb...
@TheHater
Completely agree.
Since the merger of SquareSoft and Enix they seem to have lost the plot.
Their whole strategy appears to be 'Must sell more games in the West'. And they seem to be trying to do this by dumbing down and 'Westernising' their IP's.
What SquareEnix seem to have failed to grasp is that a huge part of their appeal is that their games are NOT specifically tailored to a Western audience!
So SE ha...
With one simple move Sony have turned the tide with developers.
Although the price cut should be totally unrelated to this, I reckon we'll be hearing a lot less complaining about how hard the PS3 is to develop for.
It seems to me that many developers have had a beef with Sony purely because the PS3 hasn't immediately sold like the PS2 (which we have to remember had a fairly slow start too). Sony have never been first to market.
I certainly don't a...
This has been one of the most comical weeks in gaming for a long time.
Before the PS3 Slim and price cut announcement all the fanboy articles were 'Sony will fail unless it cuts the price'.
Now Sony have done that I've seen so many articles saying 'Price cut won't save PS3/Sony'.
It's just so funny. Did these sites have the articles already written and were waiting for the price cut to launch their updated wisdom on the masses? It's just pathetic...
I'd agree with your list... Except for Valkyria Chronicles.
I loved the weird and quirky characters. And thought the dynamics between them was a great idea (i.e. person X doesn't get on with Person Y, which can actually impact combat ability).
I found the story interesting enough (mainly due to the good graphics), and there were a few quite big issues tackled that I've not seen in many games (such as oppression, racism, ethnic cleansing).
To each ...
