Yep... The GameCube Res Evil remake is phenomenal.
The JRPG isn't so much dead as in a coma from a severe head trauma. Whether it wakes up... Who knows.
There's two aspects to the problem... One is the rise of the West as the largest gaming market. And two, is Japanese developers failure to see what made their games successful in the first place.
SquareEnix have already said they are 'westernising' their games. This shows a complete lack of understanding of what made Final Fantasy etc successful in the first place...
I agree with some of his observations, but the bottom line is... I'm finding the game fun. The review seems far more concerned with how much the game has drifted from the standard FF JRPG model rather than just getting on and being entertained.
I like the Paradigm system. It's a bit different. And I actually feel MORE involved with battles than what Destructoid is claiming. It feels like a nice balance of macro managing the team and micro managing my character - and I ALWAYS f...
It's not a Rumour it's a Fact that this ONE individual has a freezing issue.
We have proof.
That does not mean the game is broken or causing a widepread problem.
Many games I've owned on Wii, 360 and PS3 has at some point caused a glitch or lock-up.
There are a couple of issues I have with this...
The first is that why didn't EDGE ask him to clarify at the time, rather than just letting him spew whatever he wants with out being challenged...
...I think back in the old days they called that 'journalism' or 'interview technique', or at least <gulp> 'fact checking'!! /s
The second thing is that it's obviously a flamebait comment by him, as he's being interviewed by a UK magazine - so what does NP...
People have mentioned so many great games, with one omission....
Super Stardust HD.
The game I have probably put more hours in to than any other on PS3!
I'm probably in the minority, but I'd rather see a new Jak and Daxter before Uncharted 3.
Same here. About 10 hours in now. Liking the game a lot.
Sure it feels a bit diluted compared to older FF games - but I can't stop playing it!!
I quite liked FFX-2, so would not say No to a FFXIII-2
I absolutely agree Thom.
But if Sony has tightened up production, they may have just misjudged demand a bit. Sony are probably planning their logistics a good few months in advance.
Maybe Heavy Rain is shifting more hardware than they thought.
Maybe there's a genuine shortage somewhere in the supply chain.
Maybe they didn't book enough fab time for producing the mobo's or other non-standard component.
One poor bit of planning can be mass...
@tuglu_pati
I think people take these figures too literally.
You only need look at past consoles to see that over the life of a console the games look better and better.
Think of game development as an RPG. Developers start out as newbs on a project, building XP by writing code. At first they think they'll never take down the bosses and never get much stronger. And sometimes they even get owned by low level mobs.
But after tackling a few p...
Time and money snaz!
At some point the game had to be released. A developer could spend forever tweaking their games for optimum performance.
Just because they claim they are only using 50% of the PS3 doesn't mean the remaining 50% is easy to unlock, or that we may see games that are twice as good as GoW3 graphically.
Unlocking the other 50% may lead to more subtle refinements - Like better AI. More enemies on screen. Better lighting and particle effect...
I subscribed to EDGE for a long time. Although I often didn't agree with their final scores I usually agreed with what they said in the text part of the review.
What stopped me subscribing wasn't their supposed bias (which is starting to get hard to argue against) it was their elitest head-up-their-own-backsides attitude that started to creep through.
Seems to me they've taken on a bunch of wannabe journalists fresh out of University (or more likely college) who t...
In these tougher financial times Sony may have just tightened up supply a bit to save money.
Any unsold unit sat in a warehouse costs a manufacturer money.
As others have said, MS have probably asked publishers/developers ot hold off announcements for NATAL so that they actually have some content for E3 2010.
However I thought EA had stated some time ago that they would lead development on PS3 where possible to ensure more parity between 360/PS3 multiplats?
Activision are just going through the same growing pains as EA went through.
I'm not going to boycott or avoid a publisher just because their CEO seems like an idiot. I buy the games I like the look of, and avoid those I don't, irrespective of publisher.
Metropolis Street Racer is still a landmark game in my opinion, so I'm hoping Bizarre have a return to form with Blur (I thought the PGR series went downhill fast).
I know there are a significant number of fans that are compaining purely because one version or game is rated lower than another.
But there is a bigger question here about the credibility and consistency of gaming journalism. To a certain degree we have to accept that media outlets will be bought off or biased. That's just the harsh reality.
But as a gamer I am actually interested in the industry / market, and seeing it grow and mature in a relevent and well respec...
Looks like it's time for Mitchell to produce another half arsed dodgy VHS tape claiming he beat the score!
Gotta agree with JOY.
Seems to me that people get their underwear in a bunch over AAA games cus people assume they are should be graded between 9.0 and 10 rather than 1.0 to 10.
A score of 9.6 is hardly different from 9.5 - that 0.1 is unqantifiable really. So people are complaining about bias just because GoW3 did not get a 10 - but 9.6 or whatever does not equate to an 'average' AAA title!
Reviews are subjective, and maybe GoW3 just didn't deserve a 1...
I dunno if there's a real pattern to console failures. Sure taking some basic measures will reduce the chance of problems but sometimes it's just bad luck!
I'm on my third 360 due to RRoD (launch machine), but I'm also on my 2nd PS3 (YLoD on Euro 60GB)
All were kept extremely clean and dust free. Loads of ventilation and no obvious things that cause issues.
On the flip side I only ever had one PS2 - bought shortly after launch in Europe, and still worki...
Yeah, I dunno what that's all about. I'm on Chapter 8 now and I've seen loads of screen tearing and some occasional frame rate issues (PS3 version).
Doesn't make any difference to me, the game is good fun, but weird that LoT didn't pick up any tearing at all!!
