I wish all games had pausable cut-scenes. That would be awesome.

How the mighty have fallen.

Poor Rare.

One of the greatest developers reduced to making a fitness game. But then again, after looking at their recent output, maybe it's the best thing for them.

Blast Corps will always be one of my fave games.

I agree.

I'm not convinced by motion control in gaming - but I'm not gonna complain about it. It's bringing more gamers (and money) in to the industry.

Sony have proved they stand by hardcore gamers, and there are plenty of third parties producing hardcore games (Demons Souls for example!)

Plus Sony already has dedicated studio's producing casual games - EyePet, SingStar, Buzz and so on - it's not like we'll suddenly see a dilution of hardcore games. A...

I don't see this as Sony shooting themselves in the foot. By going head to head it makes it less about the technology, and more about the games.

If Sony had launched first, many new customers may have held off buying a console until MS launched Natal - just to see what both offered before making a choice. Also, if Sony launched early and didn't have many games then the momentum for Arc might be lost.

If Sony are confident they are going to have the games people wil...

@mfwahwah.

800,000 is good, but considering it came out on 3 platforms (PS2, PC and Xbox), it's not exactly a run away success. And the PS2 install base alone was pretty massive at this point, so it was bound to shift a few copies.

I think Heavy Rain will do around 500,000 units, and as with many PS3 games, it'll have a pretty long tail.

A quick straw poll of people I know with PS3's show I'm the only one buying it. And whilst this is not a comprehensi...

I liked Fahrenheit, so I'm buying this. No scores (good or otherwise) will change my mind!

And while this game will probably sell quite poorly, and no doubt provide fodder for the Xbox fans to crow about 'flops' - it won't change my opinion of what looks (and I hope plays) like a brillient, innovative and different game!

Nice! I liked Hellgate!

I was anticipating this game more than FFXIII and Mass Effect 2 combined! :(

"...did you bring your 3-D glasses? No? Ah, well, we don't have any extras."

What a lame argument - you could just as easily switch '3-D glasses' with 'controller' in that sentence.

Plus I'd be shocked if every major game released for the foreseeable future didn't have a non-3D mode/option.

This 'article' is nitpicking.

3D is a technology I can get behind. The problem with stuff like Wiimote's, PS wand and Natal is that is requires the user to be active (to a certain degree).

3D is a passive entertainment technology. You can use it or not. And from having seen Avatar I think the application of 3D in games could really be something special.

I'm looking forward to 3D in games far more than the current push towards motion technology.

@muDD

That's what makes the discussion kinda interesting.

Most sane people know the 360's GPU is better than the PS3's. But the amount of work that is being offloaded to the SPE's is obviously having a very large impact on graphical quality.

What the 360 could actually do if it had the same 1st party resources and network as Sony would be interesting - but all we really have as a benchmark for proprietry engines is Halo 3 - and I was disappointed in tha...

I think there's plenty of headroom left in the 360. The problem is twofold...

1. MS don't have enough proprietry game engines from 1st parties

2. MS don't have a developer network, working together, to share info/expertise.

Compare the number of 1st party engines that Sony have to MS. Compare the ICE team and the developer network to what MS has.

This is not intended as a fanboy post, purely something that Sony is doing well that MS could ...

I think Kojima has been hugely overrated since Metal Gear Solid. MGS 2 was a seriously weak game, 3 was great but not good enough to get the developer in to the #1 position on any develop list. MGS 4 is pretty poor compared to MGS 1, and has done almost nothing to innvoate - and just because a story is complex and convoluted doesn't mean it's good. Kojima is no story teller.

I'm not hating on Kojima Productions, I'll buy any Kojima game - from MGS to Zone of the Enders to a rem...

Which part of my 'commit' do you have a problem with???

Sure Sony have lost billions on the PS3 too. The article was things Sony would like that MS have... MS have money - but it is NOT this infinite pot that people seem to think. Every aspect of MS' business is getting squeezed. Why would Sony want that?

6010d ago 1 agree2 disagreeView comment

On one hand as the gaming market expands developers have to start targeting the lowest common denominator - the non-hardcore. And unfortunately there are more of these people than there are hardcore gamers. And if the non-hardcore gets frustrated, they'll stop buying the games.

Also, games now have huge production values, and in many ways have moved from being a 'game', to being an 'experience'. And just like watching a movie, the player wants to get to the end. So to an exte...

Well, that didn't take long! Only just finished commenting on the 'Four traits Sony...' 'article'!

Brand recognition? Didn't do Nintendo much good in the N64 or Gamecube era's. Every company can fall from their pedestal. MS have built a very solid brand around the Xbox. And many casual gamers don't even know there is a link between MS and Xbox - so Xbox stands up on its own now.

Patience? Don't agree. Sony had a strategy, but I would be willing to bet that when...

PS2
Dreamcast
Wii

Each of those consoles brought something new and innovated in some way.

Xbox, PS3 and 360 may be amazing consoles, but they have just iterated on previous generations/features. You could argue that the PS3 brought Blu-Ray to the masses, but that's not as important as the effect the PS2 had bringing DVD to the people. And the Xbox may have had great online services, but the Dreamcast did it first. And the 360 may have introduced HD g...

Great fanboy article!

Competition is good, so Sony and MS are learning a lot from each other.

Proactive mentality? The only thing MS are proactive about is profit. Not fitting every 360 with a hard drive is not proactive

Great customer service? Lol. That's like saying RRoD was a good thing because more people got to experience MS' good customer service. I'd rather have a 360 that worked (on my third now), and NEVER have to call customer support!

Motion sickness FTW!!

If this is real the constant swaying of the first person view will need to be sorted out. At least with analogue sticks they return to centre when released - the constant tracking of the hand is not a good thing.

I'm sure it could be calibrated to have a larger 'dead zone' before the tracking kicked in, so possibly not a big problem.

The thing that makes me think this might be fake, is that the guy in the demo didn't seem to be mak...
