I would love longer single player games... but it's a double edged sword.

The question is... Do people want to wait 5 years+ for a really long and involved single player game that lasts 20+hours and possibly costs more, or would they rather have a shorter game that can be released quicker and costs less.

Look at the recent AAA titles... God of War 3, Final Fantasy XIII etc.

In the making of GoW3 vids the devs mentioned that it takes significantly longer ...

Thanks for the sensible update Qui-Gon. I was just going to post the same info. This article fails.

The IR transmitter is the essential ingredient in making active shutter tech 3D work. So even if the TV is 120Hz compatible, without some means of syncing the glasses to the picture it won't work.

I like Heavy Rain, but there is no way it can be given a free pass for the mocap or the graphics.

Uneven is a perfect summary of the mocap. For a game that is all about immersion the animation was at times, distracting.

Still loved the game - but it felt more like 'made for TV', than 'made for the cinema' when it came to the story, script, acting and animation/mocap.

Since the debacle of the faulty 8series cards, and Nvidia's subsequent denials... I've been ATI only.

I'm thinking along the same lines DJ.

I have a 60GB with BC. But I almost never play PS2 games on it anymore. My PS3 has just YLOD a couple of hours ago :(

The way I see it I can either argue consumer law with Sony and try and get a free refurb or pay for an out of warranty repair... or buy a Slim (don't think they do a replacement service in the UK), and try and fix my 60GB with the ol' heatgun - so that I can at least transfer my save games.

I got 50...

What's with all the preaching LinuxGuru!?! No one in the comments so far is calling this a big problem or widespread.

It's obvious the PS3 is within acceptable industry limits for failures. However, that is small consolation to those who have had one (or more) PS3's fail.

Quite a timely article for me... My 60GB Euro PS3 just YLoD on me a few hours ago. I'm now on my 3rd PS3 - and they've all been kept clean, used with care, and well ventilated. Maybe I'm just unlucky - or maybe the early PS3's have a bit of an issue (I also know another person on their 2nd 60GB, and another who is on their 2nd 40GB).

That's my 50+ hours in FFXIII gone :( Luckily I did manage to finish Heavy Rain and GoW3, but those saves are obviously gone too. :(

@toaster

Agreed. Any serious racing fan is going to be using a G25 or G27.

I like the idea of 3D in racing games to add the depth perception. But I don't like the idea of motion controls - especially in serious racing games.

Yeah. Pretty amazing really that a game released so early in the PS3's life is being compared to GoW3.

Make the player the same height as other NPC's... Why was the character half the height of everyone else!!! :)

Better cover mechanic - I liked the heavier controls and reduced auto-aim, but I didn't like the cover mechanic so much. Not sure how they could fix it, but I hope they at least tweak it.

More variety of enemies, and some BIGGER encounters, or multi-part bosses.

It's an interesting development.

Looking at Nintendo's recent track record of small performance jumps, they have gone for fairly simple, but effective solutions, in low(er) spec hardware. Their emphasis is on profit - so that has partly dictated their use of hardware that the gaming elite may consider last gen.

So if they follow that theme then the liklihood is that they will adopt a simple solution that guarantees a profit on every unit sold.

I'm assum...

Surely there's more to MS' failure in Japan than simply a lack of decent JRPG's.

I thought Blue Dragon was great, and certainly had many of the elements that traditional JRPG's should have. One day I intend to pick up Lost Odyssey as well, as I hear it's fairly decent.

It seems Japan just doesn't like the Xbox for some reason, whether that's nationalistic pride, the wrong product mix, or something more I don't know.

When the Xbox1 failed to sell, one of...

I think Peter Molyneaux is a visionary - it's not many people can be credited with creating an entire genre! But after the amazing work that is Syndicate, Populous and to a lesser extent even Dungeon Keeper - he's gone off the boil.

Sure Fable 1 and 2 were OK, but not revolutionary, or hugely fun. They were average at best, flawed at worst, and completely over-rated Even ignoring his over-hyping (which I put down to a genuine enthusiasm for making games), he just hasn't delive...

"... the 360 is still outdoing PS3 at every turn"

Really. If you could point out some games worth playing that have been released in 09 or 10 for the 360 I'd like to hear about them. My 360 hasn't been used in at least 14 months.

Fantastic news! Friendly rivalry between developers is great for gamers. Nice to hear that EPIC have acknowledged Naughty Dog, and are using some friendly rivalry to raise the bar for themselves.

Looking forward to Gears 3 and Uncharted 3!

I can see where Pachter is coming from.

Even with the newer GPU's etc, the number of people who own them, and the number of devs exploiting them is pretty small.

Tha advantage consoles have always had is that it's a single stable platform - which is why games released over the lifetime of the console get better looking - whereas the inverse is true on a PC with out upgrading it.

If I look at Killzone 2, Uncharted 2 or God of War 3 - although I own a dece...

Both were great games. Batman AA was really surprising because I had such low expectations! UC2 was just amazing form start to finish.

In terms of pure fun I probably liked AA better. In terms of a great gaming experience UC2 is better.

I liked having the credits appear at the start, and the recap of the first two games. Made the whole thing seem more epic and movie like - building anticipation. I normally skip through intro movies to get to the 'New Game' option - but I was happy to watch GoW3's all the way through.

This has been one of the best starts to a new gaming year I've had for a long time.

Heavy Rain
Final Fantasy XIII
God of War 3

My PS3 has barely been turned off for months. In fact, I've bought more games on PS3 in the first 3 months of 2010, than I did the whole of 2009 for my 360!

My 360 is the console gathering dust... Last played it Jan 2009 according to my Gamercard! It's the forgotten console. Anyone want to borrow it? No, thought no...
