Seems to me that SE have just lost their way. Maybe they've focused too much on creating games that appeal more to the West - and got that strategy horribly wrong - or maybe the talent has just left over the years.
I'm very very sceptical of Versus XIII.
Also, I agree with your thoughts on the possible canning of FFXIV on PS3. Unless they launch the game at a similar price point to the PC version, I just can't see that many gamers picking the ga...
I'd say it's one or more of the following reasons:
- Creating an MMO for console and PC is a tough challenge
- That SE really have jumped the shark
- SE rushed the game to beat the competition to the punch (WoW), and get some holiday sales
FFXI wasn't that bad, so I can't see how they got it so wrong for XIV
As an owner of a 360 and PS3 I bought RDR on PS3 cus I prefer the DS3 controller, and my buddies were buying it on their PS3's.
The game was absolutely unplayable because of the abundance of missing grass and the lower resolution!! /s
Fact is, except for a few cases the differences between PS3 and 360 multi-plats is not as huge as fanboys make out.
For the two reasons above (plus a few others), I buy most multi-plats on PS3 unless there i...
First off the GPU in the PS3 is not a million miles behind the Xenos. It is less powerful, but the gap is not as massive as the article suggests.
Second, the reason Sony used such a 'primitive' GPU is that the intention was originally to use the Cell for all processing - but that didn't work out so Sony needed a GPU fast - they got a pretty stock Nvidia part.
However, without the Nvidia GPU I suspect the PS3 would have been even more difficult to...
That would be a smart move by MS.
I like these HD remakes. I already had GoW 1 and 2 on PS2, but having them in HD is excellent.
Just sold my copies of Ico and SotC for a decent amount as I'll be picking up the HD remakes Day1.
Halo CE was my fave in the series (not played Reach or ODST), so if MS released CE and Halo 2 in HD at a good price I'd be tempted to pick them up.
That was the paragraph that made me start thinking about buying or renting the game.
I was going to pass on it, but I love F1 and 2, and thought F3 was pretty boring.
I agree it's paranoid craziness.
But it doesn't take much effort to find 'GT5 is bugged' articles on N4G cus someone saw something dodgy in preview code!
I know expectations are high for GT5, but people should at least let the game launch before shouting about bugs!!
On topic: I was going to pass on New Vegas, as I wasn't a massive fan of Fallout 3. But the tide of good reviews is making me think it's at least wort...
My thoughts on the Xmas 2009 'release' was that PD originally intended to launch a skeleton version of GT5 at a budget price - very few tracks or cars - and then follow it up with constant DLC to build the game.
PD realised that model would not have worked and changed to a full release.
I pre-ordered GT5 as soon as I could, and there was no release date - then the retailer updated it to the November release - and now it's changed. So GT5 has miss...
Consoles are not ready to move to a download only model.
Broadband speeds are not fast enough (although this could be mitigated by pre-loading, like Steam does).
Not everybody has broadband - so why cut off potential customers.
Cost to manufacturer to supply a large enough hard drive to hold a decent amount of next gen games. - If games continue to grow in size and complexity (which is a safe assumption) the balance between production cost ...
I got a pretty good PC, and a PS3 (plus other consoles/handhelds).
It all comes down to preference. I kinda swing between consoles and PC every few years. Right now I spend most time on PS3 (and DS) - the PS3 has the games I am interested in.
I'm happy to trade off the higher resolution and better textures the PC offers, for the convenience of sitting down on the sofa, easily hooking up with friends in multiplayer, and playing on my big HDTV with my PS3...
Day 1 patches are disgusting.
It seems more and more common to buy a game on Day 1, only to have to sit through a patch.
Devs must be saving a fortune on QA, because it's not as if games are particularly more sophisticated now.
I believe this player is doing a speed run.
Yeah, for me that's the biggest complaint I have about the proliferation of Digital Download services.
I like Steam, and use that as my main DD service. But it doesn't have every game, which means I need to have the EA service installed, and Ubisoft, and other Steam competitors and so on. Then throw in the GFWL service and it's just a lot of pointless resource hogging crap to make my games run and ensure they are patched!!!
Not ideal.
Yeah, it doesn't sound too bad. Think Lovefilm have around 4000 titles available for streaming at the moment... but never seen anything that states they are HD, so not sure of the quality.
The website states the following:
The 5.99 per month package allows 3 disc rentals per month (1 disc at home at a time) plus 2 hrs of online viewing.
2HRS!!! Screw that!
Looks like the cheapest useful service is 9.99 per month... That allows 1 disc at home at a time (but no limit to monthly rentals), and what appears to be unlimited online streaming.
EDIT: http...
I've recently taken to renting games a lot more. It is too much of a risk to lay down full price on a game that may or may not be good.
Plus as SP campaigns appear to be getting shorter and shorter the incentive to actually own a game is almost zero unless it has massive replay value.
BTW, I ended up putting a helluva lot of hours in to Just Cause 2! It was a lot of fun. :)
Exactly!
I keep seeing comments about MoH being a bad game. It's only bad when people apply the 'AAA games can only score between 9.0 and 10 and anything else is a failure' scoring system!!
Some of the most fun games I have played have been what some would consider 'bad' 7/10 games.
NOTE: This is a general comment, as I haven't yet played MoH
"Number1 and 2 and call of duty 4 the rest have been ok."
Totally agree with that statement. CoD 2 was an amazing game. I would go so far as to say MW2 was less than ok though!
Misunderstood your comment. In that case I agree. And thinking about it, if prices were lower I would maybe take more risks on brand new games that I was a bit unsure of, rather than wait to pick them up used/rental.
Great news. Would have preferred Sega Marine Fishing instead of Bass fishing. But if the game has Move support, I'd be tempted!
Can't wait to play Crazy Taxi.
My list of games for HD upgrade....
Skies of Arcadia
Sega Marine Fishing
Daytona USA
Shenmue 1 and 2 (played them both to death - but would be tempted at the right price!)
Sonic Adventure 2 - One of the few games I missed on the DC
Powerstone 1 a...
