This is a potential solution.
But used car dealers don't have to give a percentage to the manufacturers. If you sell your house you don't give the original builder a cut. I can't think of any industry where second hand consumer sales means the original manufacturer/publisher/develop er gets a share.
This boils down to one thing... Greed. Retailers have a revenue stream that the publishers want a piece of.
Know what happens if a ...
Slightly off topic: If a person never intended to buy the game new in the first place, then devs/publishers are not losing out by someone buying it used.
The games industry likes to make out that every used copy sold is one less brand new copy sold - which is rubbish.
Some people just don't have the money to buy new. Should they be excluded from gaming?
And for some games I would never buy them new, because I don't know how good they...
Did it make a profit?
If Yes, then it sold enough.
If No, then it's not acceptable.
Simple, no?
I agree up to a point Lazy One... But there's another factor. Called goodwill.
And goodwill is a powerful thing in business.
lol

How could they possibly miss the opportunity to call it 'The Definitive Edition'!!!
:)
Agreed.
Looks like fun. Maybe only a rental, but fun none-the-less.
Wow, so much venom Slave!
I take it you don't like the game then?! Not sure you were quite clear enough.
While I can see how the Uncharted 2 tutorial inspired the start of this game, they play very differently. And just because both use colourful graphics doesn't mean anything.
And big deal even if they are similar games. Uncharted was great, Enslaved looks like fun.
If you only play the pinnacle of a genre then yo...
Same here.
I'm trying to stick to a strict policy of buying a game and completing it before I buy another.
And yet somehow I still have Dead Rising 2, Dead Space and I have a feeling Castlevania and Rock Band 3 may end up emptying my wallet! :)
Give a developer more storage space - and they will use it.
So the question is moot. Arguing Blu-Ray is needed is as pointless as arguing is DVD needed compared to CD's. Devs will make the most of the space available, and you'll never hear a dev saying 'I wish I had LESS disc space to work with!!'
Looking forward to this. After playing the demo and watching a couple of vids it kinda reminded me of Jak & Daxter mixed with Beyond Good and Evil. Not saying it's as good as either of those masterpieces but it should make it a fun game.
Pretty good couple of months for gaming.
Dead Rising 2 is taking up a lot of my time, but really looking forward to Enslaved. The demo reminded me of a cross between Jak & Daxter and Beyond Good & Evil.
Had deep reservations about Castlevania, but really happy to see good scores appearing.
If Milo did really exist (rather than the smoke and mirrors video demo they showed, and the controller guy on the laptop in the background), then I assume some of that tech has already found it's way in to Kinectimals.
And that's a much better application of the tech than the creepy Milo.
EDIT: This line in the article made me laugh "I can understand Lionhead not wanting to tarnish Fable 3 by having a series of Kinect-style minigames stapled on...
I agree, it's great to form my own opinion.
I'd have missed out on a load of amazing games if I had listened to reviews.
However, reviews have their place. Not every game gets a review - and not all demo's are a true reflection of the game (Valkyria Chronicles springs to mind). I like to get the opinion of others, friends, media, whatever to help me decide where to spend my money when I'm on the fence about a product.
Very well said.
Most journalists are hacks of one kind or another; or in the pocket of a publisher.
There are few credible journalists in this industry.
Agree Jetpac and Conker are good. But what do they have in common? Remakes from the better days of Rare.
Kameo was a great launch title, but had flaws (and was conceived two generations before it saw light of day).
Nuts and Bolts felt like a new IP with potential that had Banjo/Kazooie slapped on top to sell a few more copies. (In a similar way to Nintendo forcing Rare to stick Starfox in their original Dinosaur adventure on GameCube).
Ra...
Well said dangert12 and ryuzu.
Criterion are one of the best developers out there.
Hmm difficult one...
For me:
Dreamcast
PS2
N64
Agreed, Kurt.
I've been playing games a very long time, and for me the Dreamcast was an awesome beast of a console and is right up there as one of my faves.
A lot of the features of the Dreamcast have been influential in the industry.
PS2 was awesome though, and the PlayStation brand as a whole has been responsible for turning the games industry in to a legitimate and (almost) respect business.
@skyblue14213: The last part of your argument doesn't really make sense.
If they lower the MSRP maybe they would sell more but I'm sure they've done their homework on what price point will return maximum profit and cover costs.
And factor this in... if they drop their MSRP, then it reduces the price of the used games. It's the exact same situation we're in now - but at a lower price point. And could potentially negatively impact new game...
