Thanks for the reply, +bub
I just can't get my head around how people are saying the bowling works so well, for something like the release I would imagine a button would be essential. So fair play to Rare I guess!
I'll still wait for the killer app, same as with Move, but nice to know MS have done a decent job and there's potential.
I'm always sceptical of Edge reviews these days, but they seem to be echoing the general feeling about Kinect which is that the hardware does (pretty much) work as intended and there's plenty of potential.
I'm still waiting for the killer app to make me buy it. I suspect that killer app will probably be a hybrid controller and Kinect game.
A genuine question or two for the non-blind-fanboy Kinect owners....
How does stuff like ...
If you're gonna watch movies then why skip out on Blu-Ray? (Unless you plan on only streaming or pirating). Blu-ray drives are pretty cheap now.
It's kinda funny how many PC fanboys (not suggesting you are one) bang on and on about how they have the best gaming rigs because of stuff like higher resolution, better textures, audio etc - and yet dismiss Blu-Ray which provides the highest consumer resolution and audio for movies!...
This article from 2009 seems to contradict your first paragraph.
http://hd.engadget.com/2009...
Granted the article is from the Blu-Ray association conference, so maybe the numbers are massaged a little.
However when you consider that DVD was competing against VHS when launched and offered a big improvement in quality on the s...
I'm no fan of Kinect, but there's no way it will fail.
The marketing MS has put behind it ensures that. But even on it's own, without the hype, Kinect is good enough for the market MS are looking to capture - the casuals; even if hardcore gamers should scorn it (and MS).
Look at the shovelware that was on the PS2, or the horrible move tie-ins we still see on every console. Some of it sold by the bucketload. The people who bought that shovelware...
@FordGTGuy
What does that have to do with it?
Many retailers have said for quite some time that Kinect was sold out, or was going to have limited stock - the GAME near me has had a sign up for about 3 weeks saying stock is limited. And yet just before launch MS suddenly find a load of Kinect boxes just laying around in a warehouse???
GAME will have known for months their allocation. So either:
a) MS have been withholding st...
Jeez, there's some people in this thread who seriously don't have a clue.
No one is saying Enslaved is as good as ICO, or even that it may one day be considered a classic.
Is ICO a game worth playing = Yes
Did ICO launch to low sales = Yes
Is Enslaved worth playing = Yes
Did Enslaved release to low sales = Yes
Same for Psychonaughts, Beyond Good and Evil and many other games
We're ...
@lowcarb
I'll try it when MS launch a decent game for it.
Same thing with Move. No killer app = no purchase.
On one hand we have Sony fans claiming it's trash - and on the other 360 fans claiming it's amazing, but....
...the middle ground is that Kinect has flaws but is going to sell for the same reasons the Wii did (mass market appeal), and a big marketing push. As a gamer I need the games to be the defining fa...
@Conan
Why would it be hilarious?
Move has no killer app, but it works flawlessly.
Kinect has no killer app, and seems slightly flawed in some circumstances.
The games industry needs to move on and embrace a bigger audience - but can you honestly say that you see a brighter gaming future for core gamers if Kinect (or Move) become the de facto controller standard?
Good post
Agree with Active Relaod.
And just to spell it out... The author is not saying that Enslaved and ICO are equal games. The author is saying that some games slip under the radar for some reason. Another game I'd add to the list is Psychonaughts - not a classic by any means, but a criminally overlooked game.
ICO was totally overlooked at launch, and sold in low numbers. I would wager that a huge number of people on N4G who shout that ICO is such a classic...
I would also think that those mainstream media outlets get their review kit with a very specific set of criteria around which to review the hardware.
One thing I've noticed in the more core review sites is mention of the technical flaws... like losing tracking in bright light; the lack of buttons hindering some games (like bowling). Whereas the mainstream press have not mentioned these things at all.
The one big thing I am seeing in these reviews is that...
Wow, seriously impressive numbers.
Guess that's the end of hardcore gaming as we know it.
I trust in Criterion.
Their track record is second to none for arcade racers.
I thought the cars felt challenging to drive.
I think Sony need to be careful here.
IF they market this as a gaming orientated Android phone - it could be a hit.
But IF they intend to try and carve out their own niche, then it's gonna fail, hard!
Unless Sony DRM the heck out of the phone, and introduce their own app store / game store, then there's no reason why any other Android users would not be able to play the games. Do Sony really want their Playstation brand associated so...
I have a love / hate thing for Fable.
It's a strange game series to me because the ideas behind it often seem better than the reality of playing it.
Fable 1 was OK, but too short, had bad pacing, and numerous other faults. But I loved the idea behind it - the idea that Lionhead was making a video game fairytale - like a new age Brothers Grimm. I really enjoyed it until the ending.
Then Fable 2 came along. It was buggy, annoying in plac...
Launching new IP is always hard.
Enslaved had little hype and launched at a time when gamers have a lot of choice.
I liked the demo and I'm really looking forward to this game - but I had other stuff to play so didn't bother buying it Day 1.
What I love about posts like Skadooshs', is that they make it so personal. As if Sony went out of their way to lie to people just to help all the Sony fans on N4G with some FUD, and that super smart 360 fans managed to catch Sony in the act!
If you think Sony getting shipped and sold numbers labelled incorrectly on a press release is bad, you've seen nothing! I've seen some far worse than that!
So please. Stop the conspiracy theories. Mistakes...
That's the truth.
It's pretty amazing how some people whine when they find bugs in a beta!! Or the vitriol spewed when they do a character wipe!
It also amazes me that the same people in the beta cry about bugs that made it to the final game. Perhaps if the beta testers actually reported the bugs they find then we'd see better quality products released; and perhaps if developers had tighter controls on who they accept in to the tests.

Here's my speculation...
PD missed the deadline to supply Sony with the GT5 Gold code(by 3 days iirc)
As a result Sony lost their slots at the Blu-Ray production plants they had booked.
Sony have been renegotiating with the production facilities and juggling other production runs to get GT5 back in the queue asap.
As a result Sony CAN'T tell us a release date, as they don't get have everything in order for a succe...
