I'm not weighing in on the Pay to Win argument, but I'm not sure I agree with some of the conclusions of the article.
It may take 2500 kills or 50,000 healing ticks to get the certs needed... But I suspect that healing 50,000 ticks would take about as long as killing 2500 enemy for an average player? (Not played Planetside 2 yet, so only speculating).
I'm not arguing that the numbers seem high, but developers have to make a profit. And if I'm...
The new Store is a bit of a mixed bag. Mainly because some stuff is easy to find and logically grouped - but other stuff is really hard to find without the search.
I hope the next gen is more about services and innovation than a huge CPU/GPU leap.
The problem with rising dev costs (other than devs going out of business) is that Publishers are less likely to take risks. Every game needs to be a solid bet to at least make its money back. This leads to less innovation, new IP etc. The bean counters who now run most Publishers hate risk, and want to do nothing but satisfy shareholders.
That would be a sad thing. We'v...
It's been said by devs for years now that costs double every generation. I suspect Sweeney was using past experience / data to make a prediction for the next gen.
Of course figures may not be exactly double, but they will significantly rise.
If you take one element.. Say a character model...
The original Lara Croft model on PS1 used 230 - 300 polygons
On PS2 it went up to 4400
For Angel of Darkness it hit 9800
And...

The reason DVD playback is missing is one of cost. To add that functionality requires various licensing agreements for stuff such as codecs etc. Means Nintendo can shave the costs a bit more.
On topic. Not sure what the article is getting at. Last gen the Wii had lower specs than the PS3 and 360, and yet sold the most. If the games are good I doubt the customers are going to care. The WiiU does something out of the box that Sony and MS can...
Yes please
Articles bashing devs who use Kickstarter appear purely because there's not enough real game news around to fill the column inches of our screens.
Making an article that talks about articles that bash Kickstarter just proves the point...
After buying a GameCube, Wii and Xbox 360 on Day 1 what I think about the WiiU is... I'm going to wait until it either has 1) a killer app, 2) a price drop, 3) proof of ongoing third party support.
Until it meets one or two of those criteria, I'll wait thanks.
Nice idea. I'd buy that!
As much as I love Burnout Paradise, I would certainly not say no to Criterion returning to its Burnout roots.
Need for Speed Most Wanted is a nice game, but not great. It feels like it wants to be Burnout Paradise 2, but is not as good as that classic; and I think the cop chases were more fun in the original Most Wanted (It's a damn shame that game never came to PS3).
I really miss the exhilarating circuit racing from the early Burnout games. What I'...
We're not really talking about a reboot of Resident Evil, we're talking about a reboot of Survival Horror as a whole genre. It's kinda lost its way.
If you take the main series of RE there have only been two poor games... 5 and 6. 1-4 were great and so was Code Veronica. And the Gamecube remake was excellent.
It's the over saturation and dilution of RE that has hurt with all the poor spin offs.
First step is stop poisoning t...
I wonder if the guy equipped both to see if they behaved the same.
It could be that Gearbox has some additional stats that are 'behind the scenes' and influence the price. Or it could be that Gearbox added a slight randomisation to the price calculation too.
But I agree with the posters above... Not that unusual to find the same weapon in some areas.
I think this game had the opposite problem with IAP's... Instead of ripping off gamers they made a free version that was so good that there was little reason to pay.
Also the IAP method was very favourable... You could unlock new payable races individually (for 99p each iirc) or make a single one off payment (of around £1.99) that would unlock all current AND future races and maps. It was a bargain.
Unfortunately the game needed new maps a lot quicke...
How bizarre! The guy whose business model is based on Flash games prefers the tablet that supports that platform!!
I started with a Commando, and played for about 6 hours, but then changed to Zer0 as I like sniper rifles better, and his skill tree matched my play style more.
Looking forward to going back as the Commando in the future.
I agree the Mechromancer tree didn't immediately appeal to me; but I can't wait to at least give it a try.
What is nice is that Gearbox are not afraid to try something different - even if some people don't like i...
I thought it was supposed to drop on the 16th, but cool to get it today. Although I was hoping it might drop a little later in the month... Give me time to complete the game as Zer0 first :)
All the talk of 'next gen' is pointless these days because people think 'next gen' = more power, when really it just means a 'time frame'.
We're probably moving closer to the car industry model - where Nintendo equates to the family car with the hybrid engine. Sony the high performance but slightly uncomfortable sports car. And MS is trying to be the crossover sports / family / 4x4 / pick up truck. And each releases when they want irrespective o...
This gen I bought a 360 on Day 1, a Wii on Day 1 and a PS3 when it got it's first price drop in the UK (shortly before they phased out the hardware BC)
I'll not be making the same mistake again - the manufacturers are going to have to prove they've got the games I want to play and provide value for money.
If MS want my money they'll have to do a lot better than rely on Halo, Forza, Gears and Fable plus 3rd party support. And stop pandering to...
Perhaps you should read the article. It's not a remake, and doesn't even sound much like a reboot.
"but even though Most Wanted has the same name as the 2005 entry in the series, it is an entirely fresh approach"
If certain consumers were not thinking this was a sequel, we wouldn't need a article where Criterion have to clarify things.
From the sounds of it this game could just easily be label as a Burnout title instead...
Tap enough blocks in his Curiosity app and vegetative state is a very real possibility!!
