If a particular trophy sets a challenge and means people get more game play from their game, and FUN, I have no problem with them.

What I dislike is... Ding! 'You've completed the tutorial'!... You should not get trophies for doing obvious stuff.

If I look through a Trophy list and think 'how the hell do I get that one', it is an incentive to go back, replay, or try tackling a game in a different way.

I see (good) Trophies...

I agree kingmushroom. Keeping quiet on the launch and price is a good move.

If anyone remembers the classic 1995 E3 where Sega went in full of hype having already announced that the Saturn was going to rock the world at $399

And Steve Race of Sony basically took to the stage at their keynote, said something like "$299 bitches", dropped the mic on the floor, punched a Sega fanboy in the face, threw up a gansta sign, and walked off leaving the crowd ...

"Windows 8 is by far the worst Windows of them all"

I am no fan of Windows 8's front end, but Vista and Me were far worse than 8. In general it appears the core / kernel of Windows 8 is decent.

It makes sense for MS to use their established OS on a new machine instead of developing something bespoke just for XBox

It doesn't need to be better than the PS4, it just needs a bigger marketing budget!!

I still find it hard to believe the numbers MS is pulling in the US every month

I know this would have impacted battery life a lot, but I would really have liked haptic feedback on the sticks.

I remember it was rumoured before the PS3 launch.

Exactly what I was going to post.

I still have no idea why Sony made them pivot in that way on the DS3! R2 and L2 were really annoying on an otherwise brilliant controller.

SimCity will be kept alive as long as it's profitable to EA.

As soon as they stop making money of the DLC they'll pull the plug on the servers as they've done countless times with other games. And unless they patch an offline mode anyone who paid will also lose access to the game.

If Sony include a mic with the PS4, I suspect the mute button will be getting a lot of use on my console.

One of the things that irritates me the most about the 360 is the constant screaming, abuse and whining on most multiplayer games. And I just LOVE having to listen to someone's crap music playing in the background while I'm trying to game!

What I was getting at (and obviously explaining badly :) )was playing stuff 'as intended' by the dev.

Lets say I bought Battlefield 3 when it launched, and had a PC capable of running it at Max settings and at a huge resolution @ 60fps.

If I kept the same PC for a similar lifecycle as a console (lets say 7 years). Then bought Battlefield 8 (or whatever the latest version is at the time for PC). It is highly likely that I would need to lower the detai...

Does the comparative strengths / weaknesses even matter?

What I know is that there are experiences I can ONLY get on PlayStation, and experiences I can ONLY get on PC, no matter the specs.

I also know that I don't care what resolution stuff like Uncharted, GT5 etc run at, they look fantastic to me, and more importantly they play fantastically as well.

Seeing the demos Sony showed makes me excited about the potential games and services. I...

I very much enjoyed the first despite it's ridiculous story and flaws.

Not got round to the second one yet

Much more likely it'll appear on the PS5

Spend 5 minutes on the SimCity forums, and I think the only surprise is that the number was ONLY 74%!

The DRM doesn't bother me as much as the design decision to unlink RC from I. Also the small city boundaries. No terrain tools. No randomisation of regions / cities (from what I can see!). Strange traffic AI. Static global market prices.

There's a lot of great ideas in SimCity, that are buried under a mountain of bugs right now.

Sounds like Nintendo's 3 pillars strategy.

I like how Sony keep supporting their old hardware. PS2 lasted 12 years. Means people can wait to upgrade to PS4 knowing the PS3 will continue to be supported (and you only need to look at The Last of Us being released so late to see that strategy is going to continue).

One of the things that annoyed me about the Xbox is that it was dead quite some time before the 360 arrived - and was one of the reasons I boug...

I think I'd be OK with Uncharted being retired. It had a good trilogy on the PS3, and it would be nice to see ND continue to move on to new IP. I'm kinda surprised that The Last of Us is not a PS4 launch title as it could be the start of a new series - maybe it's just a one off title as a farewell to PS3.

I think Wipeout needs a significant revamp - which might happen with Sony Liverpool (unfortunately) gone. Or maybe we need something new in the future racing g...

Considering the effort required I would be shocked to find they changed hardware specs this late.

Not only is it technically difficult and costly - but considering the problems they ran in to with the 360 failure rate, would they really want to risk making changes to the hardware that could have unforeseen (or untested) consequences? - eg adding a faster CPU would add more heat. Changing chips or adding RAM would need a mobo redesign to make space as the RAM chips are likely ...

GT2 was my high point of the series.

I know I'll get stick for this, but GT5 and 4 are my least favourite. They just feel like re-hashes of the older games with prettier graphics, and with GT5 I even struggle to call it a 'game'... It's more a platform for driving (nothing wrong with being a hardcore sim, but it needs the game to go with it).

I agree with ainsz that I am a little concerned about how important (vital?) the social part of this game is. It does seem very focused on teams. But I'm sure it'll be great.

I just hope Sony support USB peripherals, like my Logitech wheel...

I used to be in the camp where I thought BC was essential - but now I don't care, and if it keeps costs down I'd prefer it was left out.

I bought a 60GB PS3 thinking it was a must have feature. I used it once. I never used it at all on the 360

BC is just a bullet point on a marketing sheet for me. I realise for others it may be more important, but it certainly wouldn't sway my console purchase.
