"Yeah, the policy killed before it left the factory due to the regular clueless sheep and media riding on fear."
What about the other 'policies' that MS has implemented in Windows 10? Like the ones where your settings automatically default to actively spy on you & sell info to consumers, or the one where you are unknowingly giving up precious bandwidth to random people in order to save MS some servers and force you into p2p...
I don't have a single box that requires me to be online. Everything I own, from my phone to my computer to my tablet to my game systems have plenty of uses while offline. Why would I buy a unit that served none of its sole purpose when I lose a connection?
You just need to think about it a little bit more. Not everyone shares your tastes in games. I don't play Battlefront or Destiny or Titanfall or any mp fps game....I play sp campaigns offline. Always have, always ...
"You only have to look at what settings in Windows 10 are actually turned "on" by default to see that Microsoft is using their operating system to gather personal information."
Someone who gets it. There was also a setting switched on by default that may have been pertinent to consoles as well. There was a setting that basically forced you into p2p handing over your bandwidth to assist w/ other user's updates. I have a feeling they were planning on u...
This was exactly the point I was trying to make the other day in an article where MS brass were actively claiming the desire & possiblity to bring 3rd parties into the Play Anywhere program. I was saying that MS didn't have the capability to make those kinds of claims yet & I was being called a pessimist & a troll for pointing out the obvious.
Third parties have no incentive to give out free versions unless they are compensated for doing so. Naturally MS wou...
@Death
I literally never said that PC had no exclusives, what I said was that they have few exclusives of the caliber of most console exclusive titles. You guys just twist words around in order to support whatever argument you are shooting for atm...
I am obviously talking about sales & widespread popularity, so you tell me, what PC exclusives are selling as many copies or putting up critical scores as high as Halo or Uncharted? I mean you could pull ...
What about UWP? From what MS has said, the entire point of UWP across the board was to be able to create apps & games that simultaneously are capable of running across any platform running Win10 w/o having to spend any resources on multiple versions?
Exactly this. It's funny too, because most of the people like freespeech69 up there would laterally consider Communism a horrible thing, but he is essentially suggesting that gaming should take up its spirit. That we'd be better served w/ a much lower level of quality across the board in order to allow everyone the opportunity to play anything than allowing gamers a choice to experience a higher level of quality pointed to their specific tastes by buying into certain platforms.
Revised quote reads as follows:
""Every new title published from Microsoft Studios [that we showed onstage at E3 this year] will support Xbox Play Anywhere and will be easily accessible in the Windows Store."
That part that says "that we showed onstage at E3 this year" is the revised section, and it is absolutely pertinent. So no, MS has no committed to the idea that every title they fund & publish will be Play Anywhere, only ...
"All this means is that if the play anywhere doesn't kick off, and not many PC users end up playing the games, they don't have to keep doing it."
I'm sorry but that is hilarious...they are actively attempting to sell gamers on the idea of 'Play Anywhere' in order to sell their boxes, and there are defenders like you out there just handing the back door right over to them. Forgive me, but as a fellow consumer, I prefer it when companies are held...
They are leaving themselves a back door essentially. If MS decides that 'Play Anywhere' isn't working suddenly, they abandon it just like they did DVR on the XBO....or Xbox Fitness before that....or Fable Legends before that.....or Phantom Dust before that...or Kinect before that....or Illumiroom before that. MS has a long history of selling users on pie in the sky ideas w/o making it plainly clear that these are only concepts. They don't care about your end user experience, t...
Isn't that the entire point of UWP though, to eliminate the entire notion of "porting"? Develop it once & it works across multiple platforms? If MS is being upfront & honest about UWP, then there are literally no more resources to spend on a PC version of any game.
This is the issue, MS is trying to sell gamers on things like upgraded hardware & Play Anywhere, and it just isn't as simple as they are making it out to be. It ends up being dishone...
What exactly are the PC exclusives? Granted I'm not well versed in the PC space at all, but the only one I can think of is something like Star Citizen. Seems to me PC's exclusives tend to cater to niche markets. I mean if you are a big RTS or sim fan then PC has a cavalcade of exclusives, but I don't see anything in the PC space that competes w/ the likes of something like Halo or Uncharted. With the rise of indies on consoles & more large PC franchises making their way to con...
I think Sony is competing more w/ themselves & w/ MS than PC. I don't see any danger of Sony losing market share to the PC as a platform solely because there isn't anything exclusive to PC that is anywhere near the caliber of something like Uncharted or God of War.
Better graphics & performance is great, but when it comes at the cost of ease of use, of constant up keep & maintenance, of extremely higher prices and at the cost of losing some of the most q...
There's literally no chance of that happening. Eventually there will be games that are unplayable on launch XBO hardware. That's just a sheer fact. Just like PCs have minimum spec requirements, consoles will have minimum generation requirement.
What it actually means is that there are more console generations than ever, coming at a quicker pace. Backwards compatibility is not the same as forward compatibility.
There have been conflicting statemen...
You've never played a Zelda game!? That makes me feel simultaneously old & sad. I definitely understand not being able to afford a lot of consoles so I can see where you are coming from, but Zelda is a game franchise worth finding a way to play...I'd say a lot of the best older titles have been emulated on PC. Highly suggest finding some to try out because they are just a lot of fun. Ocarina of Time most especially.
The key will really be whether or not MS can make Win10 a more enticing prospect than Steam, and I'm just not sure that'll happen anytime soon. First off the Steam prices tend to skew much lower w/ their frequent sales in comparison to Win10, whose exclusive wares will still be tied to console pricing schemes. Secondly, by all accounts Win10 has fewer features & more constraints than Steam. This ultimately means that at least on the outset, Win10 will be making its software money ...
In order for this to work, MS will need to really bring the games. They need to be creating a lot of first party studios behind the scenes & they need to create new franchises over grabbing timed exclusive rights for existing ones.
To hear most console fans tell it, they all say that there aren't any PS4 owners who have a PC to play those Win10 exclusives, so I'm guessing those same guys will have to say that no XBO owners have a PC to actually take advantage of...

"you guys are hilarious, always giving nintendo more of a free pass than microsoft all because they are more competitive with sony. ms needs to DESPERATELY show what they have planned beyond summer 2017? lol, get a grip. we all know e3 next year will be all about scorpio and the games coming late 2017. ms already announced some games for 2017. tell me again what games nintendo has coming in 2017?"
Where did I give Nintendo a "free pa...
So different engines don't have their own their own sets of unique strengths or weaknesses? I'm not that tech savvy & you obviously have a point that an engine is only ever as good as the person utilizing it, but are there parts of an engine that give their respective software some unique traits & characteristics?
Either way this is a great effort for one guy but I've gotta agree that ND are on an entirely different level. Amazing to think that not only ...
Same here, I've never bought a console based off of specs. It is generally one of my last concerns in all honesty. The games are what matter to me. Having a cheaper more powerful box this gen was just one of many positives, but the games are ultimately all I care about. Sony just has a catalog that speaks to me more than any other box.
I've said it before & anyone w/ any history owning Sony products will understand it, but Sony has always been the tortoise in a...
