"a lot more powerful" + "able to do way more"

You should really play an AAA game on a decent PC to see just how delusional these statements are.

PS4 is slightly more powerful than the Xbox, they use the same CPU and GPU series (with PS4 having +50% CU count).

Doing yourself a disservice spouting off at Xbox inferiority, when there's a platform which actaully shows a massive performance gap.

This is exactly how MS used to think, thus boycotting PC gaming for many many years.

Roll on 2014 and PC gaming revenue surpassed all consoles combined for the first time, isn't it a coincidence this is the same time MS started their revived PC gaming push, I think it's fairly obvious what is happening and why.

They'll make much more money from new PC gaming revenue sources than they would pontentally lose by people abandoning the platform due to ...

Oh you're talking about SteamOS, it's shares the same core OS as Ubuntu... Debian.

SteamOS is a custom built GUI for TVs so yea it's definitely a purely gaming OS... from Valve:

"Users should not consider SteamOS as a replacement for their desktop operating system. SteamOS is being designed and optimized for the living room experience"

It'll make PC gaming much more inviting... Steam machines will be plug and play, a...

Valve doesn't head up Linux, they promote it's use as a viable alternative to Windows. It's not an OS 'for gamers by gamers', it's an open-source OS created in the early 90s to always be free for all PC users. It holds a very small percentage in the desktop PC market (around 2%), we primarily use it on servers so it's pretty much always been the largest OS used on servers and mainframes.

Linux does have the largest install base overall due to And...

You would get fined £1000, you have to pay the licence in the UK if:

"you use a TV, computer, tablet, mobile phone, games console, digital box, DVD/VHS recorder or any other device."

No current graphics card in existance runs the full feature set of DX12.

We've always known X1 runs a highly customised DX11.X that uses many DX12 features, GCN1.1 will NEVER run the enitre DX12 feature set.

PS4 is, and always will be, graphically superior to X1.

DX12 is for the millions of PC gamers, only AMD users get a massive boost due to async.

We'll see NVIDIA with Pascal having full DX12 COMPLIANCE... and yet ...

Except it's not, it's renamed because it's a completely new browser.

The most obvious thing that proves this, is there's no legacy support for IE.

Write simple code to run on EDGE, it's done. Write simple code to run on IE, spend hours applying fixes and workarounds for every individual previous version of IE... and then cry when you reach IE6.

Not the same browser by a long shot, you'd think that was obvious when bot...

These old tired, obviously false, easily refutable arguments. The simplest and overwhelming FACT that nullifies all of your points is... you can install iOS on PC.

"more stable" - On PC you can have multiple operating systems, Linux is the more stable OS without a doubt.

"more secure" - No it is not. 3806d ago 4 agree2 disagreeView comment

Yea same way the Apple watch was a huge success.. this will die too.

Apple has been in decline for a few years now, even their prime product iPhone is expect to delince for the first time in 2016.

Only took a decade for people to begin to to realise you can buy much better products at a much lower cost.

I've always avoided their products, why buy an iMac for $2k when you can get a PC with the same specs for half that price, which you can ...

Yea it's definitely not proper Async, I have a feeling it's not going to work too well in comparison with AMDs GCN native hardware support, can't see emulation matching the real thing.

They're building an offline mode specfically for people that want/need offline only. In fact the 'Cloud' only works in the MP component of the game.. so Crackdown 3 is no different than every oter SP/MP game.

95% of PS4 gamers were connected to the interent, probably a similarly high percentage on Xbox.

Catering for that 5% is pointless, think about it, have 20x the computation ability for 95% of customers, or just not do it for the concerns of t...

They explain at the end of the article, Maxwell 2 will use a mix of hardware and software whereas GCN uses hardware:

"Maxwell 2: Queues in Software, work distributor in software (context switching), Asynchronous Warps in hardware, DMA Engines in hardware, CUDA cores in hardware.

GCN: Queues/Work distributor/Asynchronous Compute engines (ACEs/Graphic Command Processor) in hardware, Copy (DMA Engines) in hardware, CUs in hardware.”

That was true pre-DX12, one of the factors why NVIDIA reigned supreme, but now with efficient multithreading the CPUs will be able to do a lot more work, so it'll actually be back to the GPU being a bottleneck (coupled with the outgoing GDDR5 in favor of HBM which is 9x faster).

The 'weak' CPUs on consoles still have 8 cores, so all AAA developers will optimise for multithreading thus making PC CPUs preform by orders of magnitude better.
