Awesome podcast - and funny as hell too.
The best tactic in getting games cheaper is to indefinitely "borrow" one from a friend and "forget" to return it. That seems to be one of the biggest ones, as I've had tons of people do that to me. On another note, this is a good read and has some very good information on how to get games for cheap, which doesn't include modding your console(s) and pirating games. [points finger at you] You know you do it.
I think it does. It definitely widens the audience, exposing the game to far more gamers. It adds some sort of "value" to fans of a certain franchise; whether or not it makes sense or if anyone else cares is something else. But one thing I've learned, as I played Mario and Sonic Olympics, is that not all great icons belong in the same room.
Sadly, though, you some people don't understand this. And the thing with most reviewers is that they're too scared to be honest because they think X persons won't like them anymore, or because they want attention. The best thing any "journalist" or reviewer can do is be honest and consistent. That's what people look for.
The thing is that you shouldn't be writing a review to please anyone. A review is a personal take on what you felt about the game. Nothing more. Did you think it was executed correctly? Is it fun? Did it stand out? etc.
Reviewing games can be problematic only because of how the community will respond. Again, what most people need understand is that *honest* reviews aren't done to make fanboys feel all nice inside - it's done as a personal opinion which should be considered as so by readers. The important thing about reviews is that honesty, not fanboyism, is what's relevant.
Game looks interesting. First ugly protagonist I see since Kratos, though. But, I really want to give this game a try.
Last year's Madden was good, when compared with the previous releases. I really hope that this one is just as good.
Before Madded 10, the last one that I played which I liked was 06 - everything after that sucked, personally. And the 2K's were indeed better which is why EA eventually had to monopolize the franchise, those bastards.
BlazBlue is amazing in every sense of the word. Probably one of the best fighter I've played. But I think I'll still get this. However, the game I'm waiting more on, though, is probably Marvel vs. Capcom 3 - the announcement made me do back flips.
Might pick it up early as well, if I can.
I'm not too sure what world you're living on, but the iPhone has sold millions upon millions of units. Dedicated game developers? Um... hm... Gameloft, EA, Taito, Konami, MTVN, Namco, Sega, Capcom, just to name a few, aren't dedicated game developers. /sarcasm.
The iPhone, as much as I'm not a fan of gaming on it, does have big publishers and developers working on games. Will you see quality titles like Uncharted or Halo on there? Not now due to its graphical limitations. To say ...
There's going to be a time when buttons will be obsolete. Is it going to happen now? Nope. But as technology gets better the whole "touch" and "motion sensor" thing will become a big part of the transition. The technology is slowly being introduced to consumers; but, because gaming has been thriving on the button-mashing thing for over 20 years, it's going to be difficult to convince an already established button-comfort-zoned gamer to just "touch" a display for ...
@Polluted
Mobile gaming was around before the iPhone hit the market. However, it wasn't as mainstream or as popular until Apple released their iPhone and the thing took off. Personally, I don't think that, as competition against the DS or the PSP, the iPhone/iTouch has a ways to go. But that doesn't mean that anyone should brush it off as mere child's play as the iPhone has been selling like hotcakes, along with its cheesy games. Bigger publishers and developers are slowly moving...
Agreed. I've heard great things about this game for some time, even before its initial release. I wasn't doubting the game to horrible in any way and was actually flattered to see newer things implemented into this one, making it more versatile in what players can do.
Not a bad review. Honestly, I think this score is great for this game and kind of justifies me picking it up. A combo of Shenmue and Streets of Rage is ok in my book.
@JoelT
This for Natal? Nope. I prefer to have the actual hardware - that's what makes it far more appealing. I'll feel like a Power Ranger.
@Mr Bun
The pot calling the kettle black. I appreciate everything you pointed out, Captain Obvious. I’m well aware that I’ve scooped down to this level, and I have done so consciously sentient. I’ll lend you the “Thesaurus for Dummies” toilet paper I have here so you can wipe the crap coming out your mouth. Thank you.
Love,
