Gamers have been spoiled by some really excellent graphical detail. Now, EVERY game that comes out must be FORCED to have "teh bestest grafics!!!" It really is a shame, because there are some really simple looking games that are GREAT!!! Maybe it is just the gamers who became gamers AFTER SNES!?!?! I come from the Atari generation...so anything greater than a stick figure and I am pretty happy!!*LOL*
My best friend owned the Turbografix and I was SO jealous!!! It had better graphics than the consoles of the time...the games were even pretty good. It didn't have a lot of marquee titles...but that made them cooler to show off (IMO). Where IS the CDi??? Just as bad...if not worse than the 3DO!!!
I'll readily agree with THOSE comments before any other that I have seen. PSPgo is not meant as an "upgrade" product. It is a somewhat niche system aimed at gamers who actually welcome digital download, don't have a problem with pricing (read: probably has a JOB!!!*LOL*), and who enjoys the new form factor. The situation reminds me of 2 things....The launch of the PSP-1000 and the PS3 launch. There were SO MANY people who were complaining and moaning about price (albeit...no one wants to go broke behind them). However, once people bit the bullet (some STILL haven't) they quickly realized the value of each. New tech ALWAYS comes at a price. No one is knocking them for drive (at least most in here), determination, or the game that they produced. What they are knocking is the constant, and continuous need to talk trash about the competition. It is fine to laud and applaud yourself for a job well done. You are correct. Not only UC is seeing those spikes, but MG4 and Resistance and R2 are also seeing it. These new PS3 owners are grabbing the greatest hits like nobodies business. I went to get Uncharted...AGAIN...and I couldn't find one used or new. I guess I could go the Amazon route, but I was just trying to grab one real quick.
I think that your comment is spot on. The PSP has suffered, in terms of reviews, from the comparison to the big brother consoles (PS2 and even PS3 at times)which I find totally ridiculous. The direct competitor to PSP should be the DS (and all of it's iterations). The only way to get in now....at least from what I understand...is in-store promotions only. That will be the third phase and as of now the only place I know of is the pre-order from GameStop.
I'm in that boat. Even games that I KNOW are great...don't always hold my interest like they are meant to. So, now I get the gamers version of ADHD....I play games for about a week...then switch to another...and then another....only problem is that I have about 5 games that are only about 50% complete. Last ones that fully held my attention were Batman AA and Infamous. Guess I'll have to see with UC2. Should to the trick!!!
In terms of sales...you must remember that the average demographic...up until recently...for PS3 owners was 24 y/o and up. What does that have to do with anything....priorities. Most of us have jobs, families, and responsibilities that prevent us from buy EVERY game that pops up for the PS3. Also, remember that the Playstation brand stands for diversity. Understand....but movies can be works of art...just as photography, music, painting, graphic arts, dance, play acting, etc....It's about time that the world starts to realize that games CAN be considered art. Not just speaking about the graphics...but the entire body of work.
I enjoy the choices that I have with the PS3 in 09-10. They DO have the sequels, but they also provide games that are "outside of the box". They provide something new and fresh in terms of gameplay. If we don't reward the risk....just like anything else...it will disappear and we will be spoon fed recycled crap after recycled crap!
If you are not hooked by the first 5-10 minutes of the game...you NEVER WILL BE!!! If you are concerned about whether or not this type of game is for you...Indigo Prophecy is a perfect indicator. Great...great game. The reason that Heavy Rain is not even a question for me...day 1 for sure!!!
