This is not a hate filled response. It is simply the truth. MS has the power of a gazillion dollar coffer from which they can withdraw money at a moments notice for HUGE marketing campaigns. Consumers, especially the average ones, are sheep. If they see it enough times, they will buy it. It's really a great marketing cycle. Consistent advertising brings hype. Hype brings consumers. Consumers by up product. Demand is driven up by short supply (see this X-mas). Thus, consumer wants it that ...

I also believe that it was too immature as a technology. Both Nintendo and Sony probably felt like the tech was not quite ready. Think about it...all of the R & D money that MS spent to get it right...and it still has common issues. I applaud MS for taking a giant leap of faith in the tech, because it does seem pretty promising. But, as most reviewers have stated...it's still a very limited tech at this point in time. I have no doubt that if MS progresses the tech for the next gen...o...

But, the classic teams will be something that can't be stripped away. At this point, I would be willing to actually PAY for extra classic teams. Seriously, as long as the price was reasonable, I could see paying for some Dr. J, Moses Malone, Wilt the Stilt, Kareem, The Twin Towers, and The Dream...plus Penny and young Shaq!!! Bring it on!!!

Mike Wang was responsible for the sudden resurgence or the Live series with Live 10. Once he returned home to the 2K franchise, it was all but over for EA and Live. He is just a great basketball game designer. If Tiburon has any chance of getting Elite on track they will probably have to go back to Live 10 as a template.

I hear what you are saying...and for the most part...you are telling the truth. However, what you are missing is that there is a disconnect between the target audience and the roots of turntablism in hip-hop and it's transition into mainstream (dance/trance/pop music). Therefore, they are just selling to a common denominator. DJ Hero is NOT the ultimate DJ tutorial. It DOES try to incorporate some of the elements of the DJ. There is work with a crossfading mechanic. There are samples that...

I like the submission portion of the game. There really is a strategy to attacking and defending of subs beyond the visual tug of war appearance. I watched a couple of streams yesterday of the online and it was quite entertaining to see the people discovering nuances that they didn't believe were in the game. For example, I witnessed Aoki do a flying arm bar submission straight from a series of blocks and counters from a pure striker. This was actually for an online belt so that made it t...

She KNOWS the power of her endorsement. When Oprah says something is good or that SHE personally uses something...sales skyrocket. So, NO she doesn't care about videogames or Kinect. Yes, she DOES care about being a trend setter. I wouldn't be surprised if when she stops the Oprah show she challenges QVC for home shopping dominance. Her name is THAT powerful!

Most of the Oprah watching crowd are the house mom types. They are the target audience because they have kids too. It's really a dual attack. Get the moms comfy with the tech and when the kids ask...there's no questions because Oprah had it on the show and it looked pretty cool. It's like an introduction to a product that is more personal than a commercial.

But, you have to consider that everybody has significantly different gaming tastes. By your review standards how would you separate different genre choices? The "best of the best" would come from what genre? WHO decides what the "best of the best" would be. That's why it makes more since to do comparative analysis of games in the same genre and award a score that represents how well it does versus those games in it's genre. This gives us a scale that we can relate ...

people will find issues. I challenge you to take ANY AAA title and see if the interwebz don't have complaints. The issue is NOT whether the game is perfect or not, but whether or not you misrepresent the game by calling it a "buggy mess". I have logged countless hours already into this game and I have seen 1 TRUE bug...players with long socks and knee pads (older teams) have some crazy black overlay to the sock color even when the socks are white. Have I seen some instances of t...

I agree with the skill level comment. The first run through that I had with the demo level took me more than 20 minutes and just about all of my ammo because I was getting used to controls and figuring out the boss. Now, my second run (much smarter and paying better attention) cut that to about 9 minutes.

@Bathyj...I also agree with your statement as well. One publication doesn't really make a consensus opinion. It would be different if we had 20 reviews which all stated...

There is a HUGE leap in difficulty from 2k2 to 2k9...and from 2k9 to 2k11. Sure, the core mechanics are similar, but the game has changed. The AI in ALL games is smoke and mirrors...that's because it is programmed. Sometimes, however, the programming actually achieves the desired effects. The AI in 2K has been known to surge in the end of the 2nd and 4th quarters. However, IF you don't like this surge...change the sliders. Sliders, as those who are dedicated 2K players, really make th...

that can be patched...although I don't have too much faith that they will get it completely correct. As for the rest, it's simply a slider issue. As a 2K player since it came onto the Playstation, that's the one thing that I think Visual Concepts nails. You can have the experience that you WANT. Bounce passing happens...and at mostly the right times...on HIGHER difficulty and when you raise the passing stats in the sliders. Raise your fast breaking slider, that's IN GAME, and ...

You DO realize that quality is relative right??? Quality doesn't necessarily dictate the life of a product. Look how long the Big Mac has lasted. Sure, it's a decent burger. But, you don't think that there are burgers out there of HIGHER quality that can't keep up with the sales of the Big Mac? Repeat sales represent a business learning what customers want and delivering it...quality or not. No need to look any further than the Chinese knock-off market to see an example. There...

It's just joint marketing. MS and Kinect will be going with Mt. Dew as usual, so Sony went and got Coca-Cola. Cross promotion has been proven to thoroughly increase market penetration and sales and even more importantly awareness of a product.

That was one of the funniest things that I have seen this week! But, this is EXACTLY why this game will sell like gangbusters. He didn't even have to be DRUNK to dance that bad! Either way, it looks like it will be the MOST fun with a dancer like this...no matter whether the camera is ACTUALLY tracking movements or not. Add a karaoke mode to this and you would have the ultimate party game.

that Amazon matches the deals with K-Mart! They will USUALLY do it with Wal-Mart or Best Buy, so I'm hoping that they step up to the K-Mart challenge. My ONLY K-Mart sux in the gaming department. They will usually only get like 5-10 copies of any select new release. Which leaves smart shoppers fighting for limited copies.

When you talk about "ripping off" beats it's called sampling. This is one of the components of the music. Most of those 80's tracks included samples. I understand that today they pretty much re-make instead of sample. But, the idea is the same. As for the BOASTING about all of that. Some rappers AREN'T boasting, they are telling tales or warning. Others, however, are just playing up to a character that sells...much like Ossie Osbourne or Alice Cooper did in the past. Reg...

Both of you are extremely short-sighted when it comes to the breadth and span of the genre of rap music. I will give you that a lot of today's rap is full of vulgarity for no reason and misogynistic overtones. But, that is a function of the cookie cutter mentality of the music industry (i.e., what sells is what we produce...not too much more). If you do some due diligence and take time to really look for good music, which is almost a necessity today, you will find some incredibly talente...

with music games now days. Every one that has been released is constructed as sort of a gateway drug. Get people into the game, then hit them with the songs/artists that they REALLY want to hear. It doesn't matter whether it's SingStar, Lips, Rock Band, Guitar Hero, etc. they ALL have gaps in there catalogs. Maybe it also comes down to trying to find a happy medium in terms of individual tastes are concerned. They probably should have given the mature audience the opportunity to play ...
