I think that the reason for this is simply the lack of familiarity with the Darkness as a comic book franchise. I have turned many people on to the game just by getting them to read a couple of the comics. It's got a story that is really, really unique, dark, and interesting. Jackie as a character is so complex and there is so much to be explored. However, one wouldn't know this without reading some of the comics.
You are in for quite a surprise with Yakuza. It is a HUGE game with so many things to do...aside from the main quests. After 30 hours in Yakuza 3 and "beating" the game, I am still only about 60% complete. The fight engine is simple BUT also deceptively deep once you upgrade and master it. The story is always pretty engaging...even the "quieter" moments. Plus, it is a pretty good look into the culture of Japan.
Watched a stream of the full retail version last night (mom and pops stores sell early) and the champion mode was pretty interesting. It's not just the story, but they actually put interesting fight scenarios in that "force" you to learn actual boxing mechanics from the importance of a great jab to blocking, etc. I heard that it is a bit short. But, it seems worth the ride.
@Klado...
It's a selling bullet point. It's something for the marketing team to brag about that they have and no other console has. I agree that it is pretty silly to put something in that might not be used. But, it's not the first time that has happened with a console. All in all, it is STILL going to sell like cocaine at a senator's retreat. It's just that people might actually learn the lesson that not all new technology is good technology. Then again, probably ...
I was thinking along the same lines. Not necessarily a new legend but just a legends mode. Imagine the great teams that could be included (that were left off of the current game). They have pretty much had many of the legends as players...why not the teams...with challenges to boot? EA is still playing catch up. Sony has pretty much dropped the ball. There really is no competition at this point...which IS scary because sometimes that allows devs to rest on their laurels. But the 2K series has...
It took me about 26 hours and I was only about 60% at the end of the game. There are certain things that "lock" after certain chapters and I just didn't feel like going back. Though, it would be worth it. My backlog is crazy! Enjoy it cuz it IS a great story and a fun time.
That wasn't a slogan for MS, it was just used to emphasize the point at the end of commercials. This seems to be a marketing push. There is a difference. I agree that the term has been used before. But, I don't remember it being THE tag-line for a gaming console.
IMO, it's probably to create the idea that nobody is safe. Most people in middle America or small town America feel "safe" in knowing that if there IS some attack it will be on a major city like LA or NY and not Salt Lake City, Utah.
They will wait for Sony to do an official price drop on the older PSP's and announce a price point for the NGP before changing anything. That way they can continue to make a profit for a little while.
Completely agreed!!! He is a great basketball player. He will probably break all sorts of records in his time if he stays healthy. However, his character has much to be desired. His arrogance goes far beyond the court (where most of the greats stopped!).
You have to address the issues in the past to move toward a brighter future. Ignoring it doesn't address it. I'm not saying that we must dwell on slavery or racism, but I be damned if we just get to pretend like everything is just fine. The day that we DO become a family will be the day that, just like every family, we start to love everybody for what they are and what they aren't.
The things that you named were all created precisely BECAUSE they were lacking in the black community. There were no periodicals that addressed the African Americans in the arts, sciences, politics, etc. thus we got Ebony magazine. The NAACP was started specifically to advance the African Americans beyond the position of being treated as second class citizens in a land that supposedly is "free" and "equal". Black History month was created because of the damn near century w...
I feel you on that. I actually didn't really consider buying Black Ops because of the same fatigue. Somewhere after playing the multiplayer of MW2 and beating the game (and Spec Ops modes) I just got bored to death. Since then I have traded it and I don't think I will look back...unless there is some radically innovative change that makes it feel completely new.
Yes, they have stated that botzone will play up until the release of the game.
EDIT: Guess they went back on their word...no botzone!!! :(
@Saga Kin
If you couldn't see that not so thinly veiled attempt a racism, then you probably should take a long look at your world view. It's not "touchy" to call it when you see it. You say that statistically it's "proven" that African Americans are more likely to commit crimes. I would say that statistics can be made to say whatever you want them to. You have to ask yourself what the agenda of the study is. Who did the so-called research? Why? What was...
Singularity was great, DJ Hero was new and innovative and great, Bond was good for what it was...but not quite great. You would think that a company with 2 multi-billion dollar sellers could actually risk a bit to get some more competition in other franchises.
The stats changed well before the Wii. It's just that people didn't care to look close enough. With the popularity of online gaming, outside of the PC, access for the so-called average gamer has been raised. I am NOT saying that all PC gamers fit the stereotype. BUT, it was indeed based off of the faulty idea that PC enthusiasts are nerdy and care less about women than their next graphics card update. Now, it's hard to fit 100 million plus gamers plus the PC crowd into a box. You ...
That's pretty on point. I can't remember the last TRUE graphical overhaul. Sure, there have been some touch-up changes to player sizes and prettier grass on the fields. But, it would be nice to have a new look. I think that is what kept me from playing for the past couple of years. That...and the fact that the devs are still giving us football in portions...defense one year, running game the next, focus on receivers, then oh...locomotion. Come on, just give us a complete football game...
@Vickers and Davekaos...I agree with everything that you both stated. It was the story and the atmosphere that made the game. As a plus, it really did shine as a starter title for this gen. The character models were pretty good and still stand out, imo, amongst some of the best out there. The story of the Darkness is ripe for the picking with Jackie and all of his exploits. I can't imagine where the story will go (since the game did a pretty good job of the origin story). But, I would lik...
You were one of the few who were willing to take a chance. I knew very well what I was getting into terms of the characters and the general story. I was just hoping that they did it justice. To my surprise, they did. Now, I am just hoping that the same type of justice is given to the sequel. Seriously, it's one of my favorite comic franchises (along with Wanted) and I absolutely loved the game.
