You are ignoring power efficiency. The higher the clock frequency, the lower the power efficiency tends to get. We don't know the efficiency curve of RDNA 2, but the fact that PS5 clocks are far beyond the clocks of the Xbox series X suggests that Sony are really pushing the limits of the architecture in a console design.
Also having the same amount of energy in a smaller area will result in a hotter chip. Thermal flux is defined as the heat-flow density per unit of ar...
If it runs on a handheld it might be time to lay that meme to rest.
I'll probably do the same thing. I have no use for it anyway.
Romhacks are fun. Since you are playing on emulator: Are you interested in Streets of Rage 3 and achievements? I've published a whole new set today on retroachievements. I've developed 38 new achievements and revised 10 of the old set. There are also sets available for SoR1 and 2 (although 2 is a bit basic at the moment), but I've only worked on SoR3. Can definitely recommend the site for achievement collectors and retro game fans.
To be fair, Streets of Rage Remake is actually true to the original games while SoR4 is very different. I personally would've highly preferred a SoRR type game, but who knows maybe this will be fun too.
Now we're talking. My interest is back again. Hope it works out with the game being balanced towards the new combo-heavy gameplay.
By far the best version in my opinion. Fixes everything I don't like in the official design.
I don't think that's enough of a reason to put it in every controller going forward, especially when it wasn't even used by most games on PS4.
Form-factor looks good. I didn't expect them to keep the touchpad. Not a fan of the colors and the built in mic though. I'd prefer a dark version with colored buttons.
@Jin_Sakai: I'm not talking about forced crossplay. In fact I'm not even talking about crossplay at all. Like I've initially said I don't care about that. I was just addressing your comment on the supposed unfairness of mouse and keyboard players invading the console space.
Changed my password as soon as I go the second pm. I've been using a password manager for years now. Bruteforce won't work on my accounts, but some sites store the userdata unencrypted so you never know. If the data gets stolen even the safest password in the world won't help. Also never use the same passwords for different sites unless it's irrelevant if you lose the accounts. This goes especially for anything tied to your finances and your email account. And use 2FA whenever...
@JinSakai: Just make seperate queues for M+KB and controller players and there won't be a problem.
Speak for yourself. While I don't really care whether crossplay is a thing or not, I absolutely want mouse and keyboard support for games in next gen consoles.
@rainslacker: I'm talking about what the retail price will depend on. I'd advise Sony against relying on the power of the brand as that could bite them in the back very quickly. Games would absolutely be the best way to convince the public of the capabilities of the console. If Sony's launch lineup is weak though, it'll be harder to convince some of the early adopters to shell out the same amount of money for a supposedly weaker console. In that case Sony might have to bite th...
@Saigon: Nobody except for Sony and MS know their bill of materials at the moment. Everything else is speculative. To estimate the cost difference of the SoC we need to know the die area of both chips. We're still missing details on storage to estimate what Sony pays for their high end solution compared to MS. It's fairly likely in my estimation, that the cost difference in storage will be higher than the cost difference of the SoC.
I don't think, loss versus pr...
They might end up costing the same. Sony has a smaller GPU on the SoC, but they have a bunch of ASICs that'll take some of that space right back up. I still expect the series X to have the bigger chip overall, but the difference might not be that big. It's possible that Sony's PCIe 4 storage solution will put them above Microsofts BOM. It's hard to say because there isn't anything on the market to compare it to. Their cooling solution might also raise the cost a little fur...
We don't even know what these console will cost yet. Sony and MS both have to make compromises to get the best possible product out there for a reasonable price. 825GB should be enough to install 6-10 AAA games. Are you really going to play more than that at the same time? Install times from a UHD Blu-ray disc will probably be fairly long, so I understand not wanting to wait, but what would the alternatives be? High speed PCIe storage is expensive, so the only alternative would've bee...
The whole presentation was about the system architecture. The PS5 has built in PS4 bc on the hardware level, which is why it was part of the presentation. If PS5 has PS1-3 compatibility it's gonna be software based emulation. This is completely unrelated to the system architecture so the fact that it wasn't mentioned in the presentation doesn't mean it won't have that feature.
I'm still optimistic that Sony is trying to achieve full PS compatibility, but...
It depends where the bottleneck is that keeps the game from running at 60fps to begin with. If it's a data streaming issue between the mass storage and RAM it could certainly improve performance, but there are a lot of other potential bottlenecks where it wouldn't have an impact on framerate.
@RememberThe357: Yes it will be capable of outputting 120fps. Will we see many 4k 60fps games? It depends what the developers prioritize. Technically you never reach a performa...
@cabbitwithscissors: Your reply is completely unrelated to anything I've said. I haven't made any assumptions about the effectiveness of Sony's cooling solution whatsoever. Maybe try to actually read what's been said instead of completely strawmanning my comment. I'm merely stating the obvious challenges Sony has to overcome to cool the PS5 efficiently.
@caddytrek: What's the purpose of your original comment then? It reads like you are creating a fal...
