That wouldn't even be necessary. RPCS3 proves that you can fit all the PPU+SPU threads on a 4 core Zen 2 CCX. If the PS5 SoC has a unified cache pool similar to Zen 3 it would actually make the thread scheduling and cross-communication even more efficient.

The unified GDDR6 memory pool could benefit the CPU to GPU communication by preventing stalls due to a potential memory bandwidth bottleneck. Having both the the GPU and CPU on the same die should also help synchronis...

If that list is exhaustive, that's much better than I expected. From an engineering perspective I'd love to know what makes these particular games incompatible though. Probably some unusual low level optimizations.

The life expectancy of NAND flash depends on a lot of factors like the type of NAND flash used and the operating temperature of the memory chips. Without knowing all the variables it's impossible to make a specific claim about the life expectancy. If current NVME drives are anything to go by, you'd probably have to write somewhere between 80-150 GB every day for 10 years+ for the oxide layer of the memory cells to degrade to a point where it fails.

If that ever happ...

Why is this even a rumor? We've clearly seen that they support four different nvme lengths in the teardown video. The screwholes are even labeled 80, 60, 42 and 30 which are standard lengths in mm for m.2 drives.

It's not even a comeback. Screwing in 1 screw to have a stable stand for your console is hardly the same inconvenience as locking all your physical games to your account forever.

Were you expecting a tube shaped pcb in a teak casing?

Not a vapor chamber heatsink. It's a traditional heatpipe heatsink, but huge. At least that explains why the console is so big. I'm impressed.

He said quiet, not silent. Obviously a fan make some noise while spinning. Everything we're seeing here looks promising. Sony obviously put a lot of thought into managing temperature and noise. Since Sony have balanced the cooling solution around a constant power budget though so there shouldn't be any unforseen circumstances.

Liquid metal is certainly not a new invention, but it's the first time it's used in a game console. It makes a big difference, especi...

Finally. This is what I've been waiting for. At a first glance, I like what I'm seeing. If those dust catchers actually work they'll save me a lot of effort to keep the console clean. I really like the big fan, especially the width of the fanblades. The heatsink is big which is good, although I don't fully understand the intended airflow yet, since the fan doesn't seem to be pushing/pulling air directly through the portion of the APU.

Speaking of which I...

Frame rate is still in the mid 40s most of the time here.

The requirement set by Sony is about PS4 games being compatible with the PS5. This is about the game getting a separate ESRB rating for Series X/S implying there is a next-gen version in the works.

@Redgum: You'll be able to play backwards compatible games from an external drive, but PS5 games will have to be installed on the internal SSD.

You'll be able to:
1. Redownload digital games if your connection is good enough and you don't mind waiting a bit.
2. Use an external HDD or SSD to offload games that you don't currently play.
3. Expand your internal storage once compatible m.2 drives are announced.

So it's the same as Xbox, except for the smaller initial storage, potentially cheaper expansion drives in the future and faster external drive support over USB.

I get what you're saying about it being harder, but I disagree that it's the best or even a good way to demonstrate how much stronger the Series X is compared to the One X. Since the games are not optimized to run on the Series X there are a lot of potential bottlenecks that can occur and leave hardware potential unutilized. You can't get a good idea of what the Series X is capable of using bc games.

With the mass storage pool getting 'closer' to the APU, devs might be tempted to create more unique assets for richer and more dynamic worlds resulting in bigger game file sizes. Next-gen games requiring premium storage to run will make replacing or expanding mass storage more expensive than it previously was. Offloading unplayed games onto an external drive is a good compromise, but the more internal storage can be saved, the less we'll need to swap our games back and forth.

Games are obviously not the problem with Playstation. People want to see OS features, a detailed breakdown of backwards compatibility, UI, improvements to the Storefront and the teardown that has been promised in March. Most of these things should've been previewed before the preorders start in my opinion.

I'm hyped about the PS5, but Sony's communication has been subpar to say the least. I'm definitely not a fan of the drip-feeding strategy.

Certainly a weird move to give it to japanese Youtubers first. Now we'll probably have to rely on translations to get the info.

Game looks great in 60fps. The face change of Peter will probably be controversial though.
