Goes to show how much passion there was for this game at Nintendo. Let this be a lesson for other publishers.
Gaming isn't forbidden. They had some limitations on marketing and distributing video game consoles, but as far as I know those have been lifted a while ago. Owning and using them hasn't been illegal even when those limitations were in place. PC gaming is huge in China.

I doubt that system would work very well these days. Pretty sure fanboys would simply downvote any comment they don't like. That'll just lead to people self censoring on potentially controversial opinions, because they don't want to lose their bubbles.
For indies in particular, AI tools are actually quite exciting. The games industry as a whole is pretty much limited by manpower anyway, so increasing productivity is absolutely necessary if we want the medium to keep progressing. In the long run, production cost could go down significantly and development cycles might become shorter, at least for what is currently considered a AAA production, but at the same time that'll allow publishers to raise the ceiling again, because increasing bud...
@PaleMoonDeath: Yeah, I'm with you. MGS is also one of my favorite franchises which is why I'm kinda nervous about Konami remaking them to be honest. With that said, having this amazing series as inaccessible to new players as it is certainly isn't good, so I want them to come to modern platforms.
It feels like the cross-gen phase is finally over, so this event is really exciting. We could see some mindblowing stuff for sure. Kinda crazy that it's already ha...
Mainly hoping to see more of Death Stranding 2 which seems very likely to me. FFVII Rebirth would be awesome and certainly plausible, but it could also be that Square Enix doesn't want to interfere with XVI marketing before it comes out.
Obviously some new announcements from 1st party studios are gonna be there too. Hoping for at least 1 big new IP announcement from Sony's 1st party. The way Sony is restructuring their big 1st party studios anything could happen, b...
@Enigma313: I don't see anything sad about people supporting great games.
Nintendo would be stupid charged less. It's one of the most critically acclaimed games ever in a popular franchise, releasing on a console with over 120M install base. It'll have absolutely no problems selling at that price at all.
I didn't think any console would ever beat the PS2 and Nintendo DS numbers, but it looks like the Switch has a chance of getting there.
I don' think it's overlooked. Most peoply simply adjust their expectations for performance and graphical fidelity when playing an open world game on a 6 year old handheld. The devs seemingly did a great job considering the technical limitations they were working under.
I personally think that a 6+ year life cycle is too long for a device that was low end when it launched, but I wouldn't hold that against the game.
@shinoff
Why? The gaming industry is a creative field. Standing still seems like a much greater risk in the long run unless the industry is consolidated to a point where competition isn't a factor anymore, which by the way is incredibly unlikely to ever happen with dev tools becoming more accessible and self publishing becoming easier.
I just can't see how investing in the most fundamental aspect of your business can possibly be seen as an existential thre...
That's true, but the scale of the projects a publisher greenlights is up to the publisher. There is no reason why Playstation or any other big publisher for that matter couldn't work on smaller budget titles alongside the blockbuster AAA titles they're known for. Use the smaller titles as an avenue for experimentation and scale the successful ideas up over time. Seems like a good way to circulate new ideas at a manageable risk and avoid creative stagnation.
After listening to that Kinda Funny interview, I'd be surprised as well. It almost sounded like internally the decision to fire him might've already been made and he's just gonna be the public scapegoat for a while until they have a couple good games in the pipeline to give the new CEO a good start to his role.
@Shane Kim: Most people probably didn't even know that Dreams existed. The amount of times I came across people asking whether Dreams ever released or if it's still in beta suggests that Sony doesn't know how to market anything outside of AAA mainstream titles anymore.
The fact that Dreams was never included in their plans for PC ports is insane to me. I wouldn't be shocked if Media Molecule gets closed down next to be honest. It seems to me that the Sony of...
There is no 'x should be #1" in this. Lists like these will always be subjective. Even metascores are averages of subjective opinions. If your personal opinion is influenced by user scores, you don't have a personal opinion.
Mock reviews are usually pretty accurate in predicting critical reception. Such a large deviation would be surprising to say the least.
"What? When has MGS ps1 ever gotten a remake? I think you're confused."
Twin Snakes on Gamecube. It's MGS1 with MGS2 mechanics. It's usually not considered a very good remake, because it added some sillyness and the MGS2 mechanics trivialize the level design of Shadow Moses, but I have my doubts about Konami doing much better today to be honest.
According to Opencritic the average (median) score of all games listed on the site is 72. So a 7 would actually be slightly below average by that definition.
"Many games get delayed for the same reason but turn out crappy."
No amount of delays will help a soulless project, that was created by focus testing rather than genuine passion about an original idea. That is part of the lesson that other publishers can learn from this. You can have all the analytics in the world and determine that on paper a particular type of game should hit the Zeitgeist and have a high likelyhood of success, but if the people working on the g...
